paranoia's point is the most relevant to me - by any account, how can you not say that we are a better team than WVU at this point? And, to me, that is what matters. Why wouldnt you want to root to catch the the teams that are ahead of you? By losing to Pitt, we now have them beat in almost every category. Maybe they will beat us at home, but they still may not win the 3 seed from us because they still have to play at Villanova. All of that is helped in great part by them losing a game tonight. There are now less teams ahead of us than there were yesterday. We can beat out both Pitt and WVU now. Pitt didnt really win a game it wasnt supposed, to be honest. So, I am not concerned too much by them.

The pitt player was out of bounds when he passed the ball to gibbs to force the first overtime. But i wanted pitt to win so i'm ok with it Very very entertaining game though. we sit alone in 3rd place technically. I believe we'd go to a mini conference: we're 1-0 pitt is 1-2 WV is 1-1 so i think that means we win for now.

So, I am not concerned too much by them. IMO, right now it doesn't matter at all who is actually the better team. That doesn't matter until March. The reason I wouldn't root to catch the teams ahead of us is if it allows the teams behind us to catch up. Looking at schedules according to Kenpom, Pitt is favored in all their games but one as is WVU and we are underdogs in two. If these teams do what they are "supposed" to do the in the rest of their games, we will finish fifth in the conference. Our road to a double bye seems to be a bit tougher than theirs, and since I believe securing a 4 as opposed to a 5 seed is more important than a 3 opposed to a 4, I would have preferred a different outcome. But like III and the players say, its not about them its about us. If we want that double bye its completely within our control we just need to do what we can do every game. No excuses.

kenpom does not determine what our team is "supposed" to do, Coach does. I am pretty sure we are not dogs in his mind in any more games and he knows that nobody catches you if you keep winning.

All those points makes sense, sleepy, but again, I like seaweed said - we now completely control our own destiny and the more that can happen ,the better. Earlier this week, WVU was 8-2 and everyone in the country was talking that they were top 3 for sure, now, not so much. To me, that is the best thing. We now have as much a chance to win the 3 as we do the 4.

Of course, all of it doesn't matter if we lose tomorrow.

Gameday is at Rupp Arena, and they just showed highlights of 1985 championship. Really? Please find something else to talk about, thank you very much.

At the risk of attracting criticism ... ok, it's going to come my way regardless ... that being said, there is a game of interest down this way today, and not just because it involves the Gators. In a rare conference season, out of conference matchup, Xavier comes to the O'Dome to face the Gators. They have been talking about this for several weeks now. With both teams likely to be somewhere in the bubble vicinity, the winner of this game has a significant leg up on the other, as well as another quality win that will weigh in heavily come selection Sunday. It's not a "must" win for either team, but given that it's a home game for the Gators, they certainly have more to lose. And closing out the season with matchups against Tennessee, Vandy and lastly Kentucky on the road, wins down the stretch won't come easily. 6pm on ESPN for anyone interested .. yeah, right. But in all seriousness, this "bracketbuster" type of game is worth mentioning.

Hubert Davis is a clown. I guess Hubert's career, or even Uncle Walter's measures up to Pat. Of course, he may have been busting the balls of an ex-teammate in good fun.

Yeah, I think it's a blessing in disguise that Gameday never focuses on us/comes to campus. Geez, could they lionize John Wall any more? I wonder if he realize that he just plays college basketball ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

South Florida-Marquette is the biggest game of the day for our purposes. I am really interested to see if USF bounces back and shows they are for real. Plus, an USF win would move the mess behind us a little farther away.

The whole semi-pro thing going at Kentucky makes a mockery of college athletics.

Do I root for Duke b/c it may help our rpi, or against them since Duke is likely vying for the same seed range we are (and they are Duke, of course)?

I'd say for duke, they'll lose enough games elsewhere aka on the road. Don't want maryland to get a big win.
