If we're top 10 by Monday (no reason for us not to be with Pitt and Duke losing), this is the first time the Orange and Hoyas have both been top ten heading into a game since 1990. We came close in 2001 (#11 v #10), but not quite.
So other than the biggest Syracuse game in 20 years, this one isn't that big a deal.
I feel much better about us against the 2-3 than I did a few weeks ago.

Hoyas haven't won at the Carrier Dome under JT3 and haven't won there since 2/24/02. To put that in context, we've had 2 full classes go winless at the Carrier Dome, and a loss on Monday would make it three.
It's been wayyyyyy too long.

Strangely enough, Monday's game will go head to head with Bret Hart on Monday Night Raw at least for a time. That happened about 20 years ago, right? I'd much rather watch Austin deliver a stunner and suplex the Dome Ranger through the Spanish Announce Table on the Worldwide Leader, thank you.
Better subplot is the opportunity to get JT3 his 200th win.

Not going to dispute the need to beat fuSU at the Dome, but I don't think it counts as a "class" going without victory there is there are no actual seniors on the team to be a part of the class. Also, for us oldsters it made a big difference having a game there every year. That being said, FU SU, and the whores you rode in on.

Look, I would LOVE to win there and want to very, very badly. I'm going to have a hard time thinking about anything else for the next 48 hours. But let's not overstate this. Its January and this is the front-end of a home-and-home series. In my mind, this is a must-win for Syracuse because its at their place. Its not a must-win for the Hoyas.
And I'd argue the 2006 BET game was bigger than Monday night by a good bit. Especially for the Orange--their tournament status was on the line. And the Hoyas were playing for a chance to get their first BET title in ages.

Recently our offense + 2-3 D of 'Cuse = death. We shot the lights out last year so that always works but really we haven't been built to beat the Orange since we had Brandon, Jeff, Roy.
This year is different though. I think either big man can go to the high post and we have multiple guys who can operate out of that short corner. Essentially we don't have Dajuan who was good at a lot of things but neither of those two essential skills for working against a 2-3.
This is going to be a great game. Limit turnovers and we have a real shot at ending the 8-year drought.

The pressure is on SU.
B&G, while you're up there check this out:
'Chupacabra' in Creationist Museum
A scroungy-looking animal (likely a coyote with mange) was found dead in Blanco, Texas. The animal was stuffed and mounted, then displayed as the mysterious chupacabra (the legendary Hispanic vampire beast) in an upstate New York museum dedicated to proving that the Earth is only a few thousand years old.

I dunno Giga, we ran our offense pretty well against them in both games last year if I'm not mistaken. We just had a hard time stopping them, and due to our miserable rebounding last year, we couldn't take advantage of one of the big weaknesses in the zone. I agree about our big men this year. I feel a lot more comfortable with Greg flashing to the FT line than I did with Dajuan.
That being said, as much as this pains me, I think it's a tall order for us to win up there. I've only seen them twice, but they defend much better than they have in the past years, Triche and Jardine have picked up more of the slack than I thought was possible post-Flynn, and Wesley Johnson is filthy. And what's worse is, I don't know how we matchup with him in particular. I'm guessing we could put Austin on him, but that's not a great matchup and it might run the risk of tiring/fouling out our best offensive player. Jason I think gives up too much size. While Austin might be able to take advantage of that same matchup on the other end, we don't get them in man to man. This is, in my opinion, the most difficult game on our entire schedule.

We were good in the second half last year, but were a turnover machine in the first half. This included playing for the last shot with 39.6 seconds to go in the half and taking the shot clock violation at 4.6. Not good times.
Stil chep, I think you're selling the Hoyas short here. 'They started playing well earlier than us, but right now the teams are very, very close. Can't expect a win, but definitely can get one.

Does anyone know if they get ESPN in Turks & Caicos?
Can't believe I'm missing the next week, but I couldn't pass up the vacation opportunity. Taking my laptop though, just in case I have to watch on ESPN 360.
My waves of hatred for the Orange may just cause another natural disaster in the region. (sorry, hope that's not in too poor taste).
God, I hate Syracuse. I get nauseous just thinking about Jim Boeheim's face. Would be so great to take them down up in the Dome.
GO HOYAS!! Will be cheering you on from afar!!

Boz - have been in a similar spot on other islands. You should have no problem, particularly if you are in an American-owned hotel. Your Marriotts and Hyatts will have television packages along the lines of their counterparts in the US. You should have no problem in a good hotel bar either. Consider bringing an extra ethernet chord - they don't always have them in rooms.

CUSE FANS are so full of themselves .. The most arrogant bunch in the world - I WANT the Hoyas to walk out that gym with the W point blank period! ( I fear for our fans attending the game with those trashy fools in orange ESP. After we Win!)... Huge game , crazy atmosphere and VERY WINNABLE game. I'd say this is a must win game for us if we expect to have a chance at the Conf. Title and finally prove we belong in the top 10. At any rate ... I wouldn't trust my kids with a guy that looks like this ...

Yes, definitely packing a cable, just in case. Don't want to count on them or on wireless.
