From ESPN: "ESPNU 100 center Mikael Hopkins was supposed to take an official visit to the Kansas campus this weekend (Sept. 24) but has re-scheduled that trip, Matt Scott of www.TheShiver.com has confirmed with his AAU coach. "It was re-scheduled for next weekend (Oct. 1)," Team Takeover head coach Keith Stevens said. Hopkins is down to seven schools (Ohio State, Kansas, Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Miami, Texas and West Virginia) and is expected to announce his decision on November 1." Good. No home football game that weekend...

Who's watching the football game? It's the party atmosphere win or lose.

Visit to Kansas this weekend:
"Mikael Hopkins had originally planned to officially visit Kansas last weekend, but those plans ultimately changed. Now, the 6-foot-8, 210-pound power forward from DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Md., will make his way to Lawrence this weekend. Hopkins, the No. 79 ranked player in the 2011 class, spoke to Jayhawk Slant about his upcoming visit to Kansas.
. . .
"I'm just looking forward to seeing what Kansas has to offer," he added. "I know they've got a great basketball program, but I want to see the campus and see what type of academics they offer. I also want to spend time with the coaching staff and players. It will be important for me to learn about as much as the school as possible."
Hopkins, the No. 12 ranked power forward in the 2011 class, has emerged as one of the most heavily recruited big men in the class. Georgetown, Kansas, Maryland, Miami-FL, Ohio State, Texas, Virginia Tech and West Virginia have invested a great deal of time recruiting the four-star prospect.
However, it appears that a handful of schools have emerged from the pack when looking at the overall landscape of his recruitment. Hopkins has already taken an official visit to Ohio State (9/10). He's scheduled to visit Kansas (10/1), Miami-FL (10/8), West Virginia (10/15) and Texas (10/22) before reaching a final decision. Georgetown also appears to be a player for Hopkins.
. . .
"I believe Mikael will arrive at 1:00 tomorrow afternoon," said Team Takeover head coach Keith Stevens. "Yes, Kansas has been involved with Mikael for a very, very long time. I believe the staff has been recruiting him for two years, so they've been very involved. The biggest thing with Kansas has been the consistency.
"They've put in the effort and spent time getting to know him and his mom," he added. "I really think that's the biggest thing they've done. The staff has also told Mikael he'll have the opportunity to come in and play right away. If he works hard, he will have the opportunity to play from day one."

Kansas rivals is saying that it looks like a Georgetown/Kansas battle for Hopkins. Don't know how true this is, but I hope we get him.

Some people on here have been down on Hopkins but this is obviously a great get considering the way things were looking a month ago.

this would be HUGE. Beating out Kansas and Texas for a recruit has to put an end to the nay sayers on here questionning our ability to recruit after the loss of Cox.

Huge get. As soon as I read his coach detailing the Mikael's development as a "finesse big", I had a good feeling for Georgetown. He's an athlete and can play perimeter plus break people down on the dribble. Feel really good about this pickup. If we were to get Hood, we'd be right back in the thick of the top recruiting classes.

Welcome, Mikael!
Is it pronounced like Mikhail or like Michael? Or Mick-a-el?

Kansas board sounds like Gtown's board for the past couple months. Some snippets:
"I think it's safe to say that his visit was not a "huge success"."
"Surprised they had him come in last weekend given that nothing was really going on, unless they felt the need to get him on campus because he was feeling the love from G-Town.
this kid was really growing on me. I guess back to the drawing board..."
"well this is frustrating"
