Congrats to the staff and to Mikael......I know one of you made a great choice and am confident the same can be said of both. I guess all the back and forth in the Betancourt thread worked!!!

Kansas board sounds like Gtown's board for the past couple months. Some snippets: Surprised they had him come in last weekend given that nothing was really going on, unless they felt the need to get him on campus because he was feeling the love from G-Town. A-ha! No home football game/party... Again, congrats to Mikael, his family, JT3 and staff!

I don't want to get down on this signing, because Hopkins is clearly very talented, and it's always great to see talented guys wanting to come be a Hoya.
But I am a bit concerned (also not having seen him play) about the criticisms about his motor. IMHO, that's been the biggest thing I've been wanting to see out of this the last couple years that's just been missing. Hopefully Trawick's energy and enthusiasm for the finish provides a big shot of energy for this team and Hopkins shows up and gets after it every time down!

I really am looking forward to seeing Mikhail play this year without Quinn. I saw one game last year and really couldn't get a feel for his game because he deferred to Quinn so much. I don't really feel as though this changes anything about how well GTown is recruiting. From everything that I've read over the last year, Mikhail wanted to come to Gtown all along. If JT3 nabs Hood then I will feel positive about how things are going........

No Quinn also means James Robinson runs the point full-time; furthering his development there. They will be sick this year with Hop, Rob and Jerami Grant. The latter two could be future Hoyas as well.

also equally as important as maintaining the dematha connection is cultivating the team takeover AAU connection as well. Keith Stevens is making this club into a serious player in the DC area and nationally....
robinson is a takeover guy

Huge commitment, this is the top big left on the board that the Hoyas had a shot at, and they nailed it. The team needed a good big in the class of 2011 and they got one. National scouts seem to really like Hopkins, his RSCI is #62, ahead of people like Angelo Chol and Tyrone Johnson. Telep has him highest all the way up at #37 on Scout.
Love the DeMatha and Team Takeover connections as well. Way to go staff!

As an alum of DeMatha, I'm glad to see another former Stag become a Hoya. The team definitely needed size, and he'll give them that.
I just hope he realizes that with Quinn Cook gone, this DeMatha team is his and he plays like it. Has a great face up game, is athletic and is excellent around the basket, but just flat out disappears - on both ends - way too much. If he had a motor, with his skill-set, he'd be a top 15 player.
Congrats Mikael and I'll be rooting for you all season at DM. Time to get mean big fella!!!

Kind of off topic: who are the preseason frontrunners for Wash. DC ALL-Met POY?

Essentially, Hopkins is your face-up 4. Time for a 3 and a 5.

Kind of off topic: who are the preseason frontrunners for Wash. DC ALL-Met POY? Mikael SHOULD be the preseason frontrunner, and if he plays up to his potential and the team does well, he should win it. Our old friend Ty Johnson and Justin Anderson will be worth keeping an eye on at Montrose. Chris Thomas at Princeton Day is a killer, but just a rising sophomore. Darion Atkins at Landon and Jamal Lewis at Sidwell Friends will be guys from the IAC to keep an eye on. My darkhorse is Marcus Thornton from McNamara. Kid can flat out play and if McNamara is as good as some think they can be this season, he could find himself in the conversation. He signed with William and Mary, but I wouldn't have minded seeing him in a Hoya uniform. Same goes for Patrick Holloway, 2012 kid from Paul VI.

"I just dropped by with present for warming of house. Instead, find you grappling with local oaf." It's great to hear that we are, indeed, going to put a team on the floor in 2012! Keep the recruits coming.
