Nikita was declared ineligible, but then he didn't play any games after those ten, and the team website and broadcasts always referred to him as a redshirt.
I don't really know how much of an issue money would be; if I'm reading the table right, we'll have five open slots in 2011. Although we rarely use all thirteen scholarships, I doubt it's because we can't afford it. I don't think redshirting a guy would create any more of a budgetary burden than simply using the scholarship on another player.

That's right. I forgot that he didn't play at all that year. In that case, he was redshirted for the remainder of his freshman year.

Folks, Hopkins is not going to come to Georgetown to redshirt. He is the starting power forward on the best team in the area as a junior, is a consensus Top-50 recruit for his class, and is/will have offers to play at top programs all over the country.
We'd be lucky to have him - period. I think we will, but it won't be as a redshirt.

Love to add him and Christmas as a 1-2 bigs punch in the same class. Those 2 along with Lubick would mean we'd be pretty set at the bigs for a while.
And for those that are trashing his game and calling him soft, I remember the same thing being said on this board about Kris Joseph a couple years ago. Guy's turned out to be a heckuva player, one of the best 6th men in the country as a sophomore.

And he's got another year to get it together. Obviously, he's a fan of the program, so the inroads are there. I'd redshirt him he doesn't progress, but you're right; he won't have to elsewhere. I'm still intrigued by Jordan O, who looks John Henry-esque.

Joseph was perfect fit for Georgetown and Hoyas recruited him hard. Hopkins is a "patient" player. That better for those of you who like him a lot? He'll patiently wait for the ball to come to him, he'll patiently wait to make an impact on a game and imo Georgetown needs to move towards players who don't wait for things to come to them--they make an impact with/without the ball.

Add Hibbs & J. Noah to the list. I'd rather trust the staff And for those that are trashing his game and calling him soft, I remember the same thing being said on this board about Kris Joseph a couple years ago. From Day 1 Boo Williams Invitational:
"For Takeover Mikael Hopkins had some solid moments down low showing good footwork, Michael Gbinije was steady as always, and A.J. English was able to run the show using his combination of athleticism and ball handling."
"Mikael Hopkins rattled off an extensive school list of Kansas, Texas, Villanova, Georgetown, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Ohio State, and noted that probably some other schools he couldn't remember. Hopkins says all of the schools have offered him a scholarship."

I've seen him attending the Kenner League games. He seems pretty friendly with the G-town guys and was sitting on the bench for Team Takeover's game last Friday.
Looks like he broke his hand or wrist as he had a cast on it.
Hope Georgetown will be able to keep its tight grip on the WCAC talent after not landing anyone from the conference last year.

I really hope that the Hoyas haven't stopped recruiting Mikael hard.
Especially when one of our top guard targets (Ty) signed with Villanova, our top C/PF target (Rak) is clearly considering several other schools seriously, our top SF prospect (Thompson) is looking more and more like a stretch, and the rest of our supposed top targets (Madden, Brown, Dawson, Cook, Chol, Hood, JO'B, Faust, Randle, etc.) all have big-time programs recruiting them hard and it will be a battle for us to sign any one of them.
I can't believe Mikael Hopkins would fall off our recruiting radar until we ink guys rated above him at his position. He's the #76 ranked prospect - it's not like he's chopped liver.

he does have the reputation of being soft. and has been plummeting in the rankings.

for once, I agree with ranch....august is around the corner and we don't have a single 2011 committment....we shouldn't be discounting any of our options at this point.

i never said that we SHOULD stop recruiting him I was merely making an observation... i have no direct knowledge, but pretty sure awhile back he stopped listing us....probably meaning we were not reciprocating the love....but you can't argue that we should still be recruiting him either....i doubt most of you have seen him play more than a game...if any. Rankings don't really mean much. If the staff think he's worth recruiting then great if not..they have a good reason
it's still early....we won't see commitments till the fall after official visits etc

Don't always listen to ranking numbers. A lot of politics goes into them.

Read that Georgetown coaches are currently on hand watching him play at Peach Jam so...my guess is we are still recruiting him. Expect for him to have a huge year at Dematha with Quinn Cook moving on to Oak Hill.

I'm just not a fan of his : "Hopkins must be more physical and learn to welcome contact. At times he seems not into the game and untimely disappears on the floor. He is a very capable rebounder on both ends but at times watches the action instead of perusing the ball sometimes the only rebounds he gets are the one that come right to him. Hopkins must play with more energy and urgency on a consistent basis to obtain the production he is capable of."
Frankly if we can get christmas everything else is just gravy for me.

Agree that Christmas would be better, but I don't see Rakeem coming here at this point. Hope I'm wrong.
