As a DeMatha alum, I've never been more embarrassed than I am right now with the team.
I knew the team was overrated, but that's no excuse to get outworked the way they did today.
Mikael doesn't get fed the ball but he also doesn't know how to make himself available either and today was another example of him shrinking against tough competition.
The more I see him, the more I don't want James Robinson. If he was a lights-out shooter, I'd be fine if he came aboard, but he's not and he doesn't do anything exceptionally well. He's solid, but I think we can do better than solid.
Also, Coach Jones needs to look at why his team has allowed its opponent to get out to almost insurmountable leads in consecutive games. It's getting old real fast.

He got into foul trouble early, but didn't really stand out. I liked the way he ran the court when needed. From the small sample I saw, he's a four-year player.

He got into foul trouble early, but didn't really stand out. I liked the way he ran the court when needed. From the small sample I saw, he's a four-year player. Pretty much agree with everyone. Positives: he looked like the most talented (toolwise) out there. Not the best player, but the most upside. Decent hops, good shotblocker, moves well, comfortable all over the court. Seems to want to play within an offense. Negatives: Obviously, he didn't really impose his will. Not hyper active and went through the motions in terms of he played his spot well but didn't really range. Mitigating factor: Could you be excited to play with those guys? Robinson and Lyles were giant ballhogs, passing up entry passes for contested threes even when they were playing awful. I'm not going to judge anyone by one game, but DeMatha's guards were getting wildly outplayed and they still didn't go to their strength down low.

James Robinson looks chunky and was so slow today. He got far too much hype from that Peach Jam game and have to echo what I said about Hopkins last year. Guy is talented, but just tired of people who need to "learn" to play hard consistently.
Robinson is too slow and the comparison to Deron Williams by Bruno Kirby (Paul Biancardi) was an embarrassment.

Ugly game for Dematha -- their guards were badly outplayed. As for Hopkins, he never got the ball. I mean the guards truly refused to get him the ball. One thing I do like about his game is that the few times he did get the ball, he made pretty good passes. Seems to have a good sense for the team concept. I also really like his frame & physical upside. I do wish he had a better motor.

We need to get on Beejay Anya. Anyone have info on whether we, or who else, is recruiting him.

^ why? undersized and not particularly mobile. he's able to bowl over high school players but not a partic good prospect. much better options in that '13 class

Anya would be great get for a CFB team.
This is one of the weakest groups of talent I've seen in DMV in a long time. There really aren't any "must get" type of talents in the '11-'13 classes right now. Hope some develop but right now--I'd skip the '12 class locally and haven't been impressed by '13 either-despite a lot of hype for Britt, Jenkins (another undersized guy for his skill level) or Fenner. DeMatha has nobody I'd want either. James Robinson is vastly overrated right now and needs to drop some lbs/find a jumpshot, even with that--he can't guard anyone at the elite level, and Jeremi Grant wasn't a major conference prospect.

I'd agree for the most part about the overall talent level in the DMV although I still wish Georgetown would have at least sniffed around Marcus Thornton at McNamara. William and Mary got a helluva ballplayer that plays with intensity on both ends of the floor and can flat out score.
I'd also like to see Georgetown at least take a look at Coleman Johnson at Paul VI for '12 and Stan Robinson from Paul VI and Jairus Lyles from DeMatha in '13.
Not saying that any of the above will be stars at the collegiate level, but they're the types of kids that can help you win because of what they bring to the table, although I do think Lyles could be special once he puts it all together.

In case anyone is interested in attending the DeMatha/St. John's game tonight at SJC, the gametime has been moved to 6:30pm in light of the impending weather called for later this evening.

I watched the Dematha game tonight and realized why his numbers are down. He gets no touches and plays with average guards. Everytime a guard drove they looked for their shot and not the extra pass. Mike Jones needs to tell his team Hopkins and Bj Anya need more touches. He rebounds well and plays solid defense. Solid get for Gtown.
