This is a team that over the last 4 years or so that has played a high % of a cleverly masked matchup zone to the extent that to many it looked like a man to man. I didn't see it tonight and have seen it far less frequently this year than it the past. our man tonight was exposed and you cannot expect to get help rotation out of the man defense. If Clark cant defend ODUs guards, what are we going to do in January. Clark looked like a rookie out there defensively today.

There are nights where I would like to see a little more JTJr in JTIII and this was one of them. Hear, hear Dan! All the critics come out after a game like this but I've been saying for a long time that this program needs more of a JT2/take no prisoners approach to the game. To echo DFW, if the players knew there'd be hell to pay (a 3 AM practice or worse) if they were, to say, miss 7 of last 8 FTs in a game, they might play with more passion/fear/hunger/and a chip on their collective shoulders....

We're going to the Final 4! Thanks HSB. If I didn't see this, I was going to start a new thread trying to stay a little optimistic and get over this hump (but I hate clutter, so no need just yet). I'm not comparing this loss to any of our past years, because this is a different team, blah blah blah. But this is one game that we can (hopefully) take in stride and move on. I was ecstatic that we showed some life and got back to a point where we could have had a chance to steal it given I thought we were gonna stay down for the whole game. I can't say I'm happy, but I'm looking at Harvard now

Welcome back, FB. Where ya been? PM me your address and I'll mail you some roses. (I agree with you that it was a lousy loss pretty much all around) I've been deeply immersed in having 800 kids in 3 years. So the only time I get around to posting is when I'm unbelievably Editeded off. Like tonight, for example.

Box: guhoyas.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/stats/2009-2010/121909.htmlThe good: 14 assists on 19 made FGs (7 from Wright) The bad: 6-20 FG (30%) in the first half 14-22 FT (8+ points left on the line) 18 TOs 13 offensive rebounds given up no minutes for Vee Sanford in a game where he might have helped on both ends Refs: Karl Hess (on the bright side, probably the first game I haven't seen him royally mess up - he must have been worried about the snow)

800 kids? Congrats! That's going to cost you dearly when they matriculate to a DC school with such a lousy basketball program.

Notes from a quickie tempo free box: -Back to the slow pace-about a 61 possession game. -Outside of FT shooting (7 of 9), offensively the first half was an ever-lovin' disaster. 11 TOs in ~33 possessions, no ORebounds (2 of 15), missed 2's (4-13), missed 3's (2-7). -Defensive rebounding was an issue, particularly in the second half-they got 7 of the 16 misses (44%, and 38% for the game). After our poor first half, we improved, getting 9 of our 15 misses. -We hit 2's in the second half (10-14, 71%), but 3-pt shooting remained cold (3-10).

There are nights where I would like to see a little more JTJr in JTIII and this was one of them. Normally I would agree, but I don't think everyone on this team is mentally tough enough to handle a JT2-like tongue lashing. I can see greg becoming even more reserved if he was yelled at on a consistant basis. As doc walker has said many times, some of our current guys simply are not the gtown players of old when it comes to mental toughness

I was gonna go with, "Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?" but opted instead for, "This song is twice occurred, and now it's time to go away on a holiday."

There are five to six TOs every game that are the result of laziness or lack of focus. It isn't the offense when someone throws away a d rebound or commits on the first pass of the offense.
Stop those and this team is very good. Keep doing it and were below .500 in he BE again. You can't give away five possessions a game.

If we pull an upset this time around, I will personally buy McDonough and have it airlifted to Norfolk, and make sure we play all our games there for the rest of forever. Georgetown is too good for us right now; our offense is awful. GU by 20. We have to find a lawyer to draw this contract up IMMEDIATELY, if he takes McDonough then we can build an ARENA!!!! (Or other better facilites). I'm fine taking one loss for the sake of getting new facilitites...its not like we are 4-4 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D This. (New Facilities time!!! ;D)

During the tight times of the Temple, Butler and Washington games it was the play of Clark that gave the team that extra boost. A timely 3pt goal or a steal and dunk on the other end. Tonight it does not appear that he was there offensively. But I am surprised from reading this board to hear that he was not there on defense either. No lateral movement? This kid is/was considered to be the best defensive player on the team. What's up with this assesment?

Missing 7 of its last 8 free throws AT HOME is a huge red flag for this team. Georgetown made 4 of its last 5 FT attempts in the game ( link).

He was out of position a few times, and a couple of the 3's by ODU were from Clark's man. But it wasn't like he was a glaring problem (or at least I didn't notice it). I noticed that everyone on our team passed the ball directly to players on the other team or just threw the ball out of bounds almost two dozen times. That was the story of the game, not a hand-full of slightly inadequate defensive plays.

He is solid, but lacks the lateral quickness to be a great lock down defender. His long arms, overall quickness, and basketball IQ make up for it so he is still a good defender, just not great. Atleast imo. That being said, tonight I think he really killed us defensively. Every three seemed to come of a missed rotation by him or an ill advised gamble, or his inability to stop penetration. Just a bad game from Jason. He'll pick it up though.
