Exams as an excuse always makes me laugh...yeah "we are georgetown", but I was there for academics and rarely opened the books. Lets not act like these guys were burning the midnight oil at the library. We just came out and thought we would dominate. We were wrong. Hopefully its a lesson for the boys (like they need any more lessons after last year), and at least the final score is not an complete embarassment. Yeah... you were there for academics and didn't have to put in all of the time in the gym. Have a little respect for how hard these guys have to work to do both. I hear you, but ODU had tests too. It was a non-factor in this game.

DFW... if you don't want to hear it, don't read the posts. It was a bad game. That's all. They were flat until halfway through the second half and careless with the ball. And they did, in fact, have a lot going on this week and had maybe one full team practice. ODU is decent. They shouldn't beat Georgetown on any week (even finals week). But they did. Just a bad game. Nothing more. Missing 7 of its last 8 free throws AT HOME is a huge red flag for this team. I think it's particularly going to be an issue with Monroe. He is on the line a bunch, and he's really struggling. I seem to recall that he was up about 75% in the middle of last year and he's gotten steadily worse since then.

IMO, CW just didn't appear focused. He clearly passed up every open three, at which point the team stop passing to him on the perimeter. You would agree that that is where JWall excelled. My opinion then is if he isn't going to shoot and make the three, and does not act as a true PG, then what really is his role? Not spewing, just a simple question that begs for an answer. Here's your answer.... Google "point guard" and see what you come up with.

I thought bashing a individual player was not allowed. Oh, well! Rules be damned

Ugh. What an inexplicable, terrible loss. And the team just looked dismal most of the night. Definitely a major step backward after two very big wins. This team hates prosperity. Not like it kills the season or anything but this is an awful night for Georgetown basketball and raises lots of questions about this team.
How 'bout we stop scheduling these clowns for the McDonough game?

We aren't going anywhere this year with the stupid turnovers. Maybe this will wake someone up.

Thoughts about the game (which I only heard on the radio):
- There is no "silver lining" to this one, just beat down by an inferior team because of unfocused and poor play
- Have to remember what the goal is - get the ball in the hole. I am all for passing, but the guys need to focus on every possession and only make high % passes. Unless the pass will result in a dunk, there is no reason to make a pass that you are not 95% sure you will complete. I don't know if the team isn't getting a good look in scrimmage from the scout D, but there is no excuse for lazy perimeter passes when you have the ball skills our backcourt does.
- Someone has to step up with fire to correct the lack of focus before we are down 14. I would like to see Greg or Chris become a vocal and passionate leader for this team, but I think Austin is the most ready to take that role. He seems like he could get emotional while still controlling his game.
- Finally - it's basketball. Losses are par for the course, but you have to put them behind and move on. We couldn't do that last year. I'm done with this game and on to Harvard, hopefully the team is too, and comes out an plays like we have seen they can.

Did anyone really think this team was going to go undefeated? Just asking.

Did anyone really think this team was going to go undefeated? Just asking. Did the moderator really think we were going to lose to Old Dominion? Stop asking stupid questions, please. This was an asinine defeat.

This loss came as a result of this team's 2 biggest weaknesses: turnovers and an inability to defend the 3. When both happen on the same night, Hoyas lose, even to ODU.
There are other weak spots - late game ft shooting, general passivity - but i still think if the team can cut down on TOs and defend the three this can be a very good season.

When Frack black shows up it's almost worth the loss.

It boils down to just a couple of issues, and all the other stuff is just over-analysis: turnovers and poor shooting.
Not quite sure why there are so many TOs. I don;t buy into it, but I can see where the "system-haters" use this as ammunition -- are the guys just over-thinking and not letting the game flow to them?
As far as the shooting, I just don;t have an answer. How can they continually fail to knock down the open shots? In the same freakin' gym where they practice?! And I think the team follows Freeman's lead in the shooting department -- seems to me that as Freeman's shooting goes, this team goes. I thought he was going to have a breakout year, but I am just not sure anymore. Yeah, I know he had 13 points, but 1 of 6 from 3-point line? If he shoots like that on a regular basis, this team is going to struggle.

Back to work. I'll take this loss (don't really have a choice) but i'm interested in seeing how we bounce back, and whether we can regain our focus against a tough, proven Harvard team that we still should expect to handle.
ODU played with a sense of urgency and deliberateness with the lead that we could have used to whittle it down. Coach's teams tend to be heady, and poised, but in this case, they seemed almost too comfortable. Unlike the las ODU loss at McD, this team didn't seem rattled much... they knew they were only a play away from sparking a run, but they simply failed to execute at the critical moments. It is positive that they have the perspective to know that a 20 point lead with 10 minutes to go is not insurmountable, but it takes maturity and focus to understand that each turnover, or defensive breakdown quickly erodes chance of coming back.

This is a team that over the last 4 years or so that has played a high % of a cleverly masked matchup zone to the extent that to many it looked like a man to man. I didn't see it tonight and have seen it far less frequently this year than it the past. our man tonight was exposed and you cannot expect to get help rotation out of the man defense. If Clark cant defend ODUs guards, what are we going to do in January.

Fortunately, these are issues that CAN be fixed during the season (as opposed to something like poor outside shooting, or rebounding, which generally require offseason focus/personnel.)
