Post moved: Good write up, really enjoyed reading it. I have 2 comments though, you have ODU "allowing 72.3 points a game". We haven't allowed 70 points to any opponent all year long. I think its more than likely 52.3 points a game and maybe just a typo, either way, no biggie.
Secondly, we were 25-10 last year, not 20-9, even though 4 of those wins came in the mediocre CIT tourney. Again, no biggie. Commenting on: www.hoyasaxa.com/sports/bb-gameday1009.htm

That's been corrected. Once or twice a year, usually in December, some stats from the visitors' site don't migrate over to the game preview on Thursday, and that's what you saw.

It seems that the game should be able to go on as scheduled.
1. Usually road teams (for any game more than an hour or two away, and Norfolk is about 2-1/2, will travel the day before, and spend a day acclimating, potentially being able to practice in the facility before a night game. So if ODU heads up today, that won't be an issue.
2. The game is on campus, so the Hoyas should be able to make it.
3. There are almost no Friday night NCAA games tonight, so if the refs aren't already in town, they could make an effort to get here tonight, before the snow really picks up.
This could all be wishful thinking on my part, but I'm hoping the game goes off as planned. (Also, the forecast of just snow, rather than ice/wintry mix, is better for road conditions.

Also keep in mind that, in general, snow forecasts in the DC area are notoriously overstated.
I wonder if any of the Safeways still have milk or water.
(and yes, I am well aware that I am positioning myself for another post in the "things that make me look stupid" thread)

Not sure if I'm using this stat right, but the Hoyas have been playing a big this year (JT3 clearly listening to MCIGuy!). We're 15th in the nation in effective height according to KenPom, and 3rd in the BE behind USF and UConn. Cuse is 4th in the BE, but 49th overall. Here's KenPom's explanation of effective height: www.basketballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=82

You're reading it right.
Greg's at 80%, Julian's at 55% and Henry is at 30%, meaning that about 65% of the time, there have been two bigs on the floor. There's a few more minutes with Jerelle or Nikita but the remaining 30% or so has been Hollis.
Going forward, Henry is going to have to step up, if the Washington game is any indication. Now they were smaller and quicker so it may have been matchups, but if it is a tightening rotation either Vaughn or Sims needs to play more minutes to keep us "big."

People in the mid Atlantic are the biggest pansies when it comes to snow.

You laugh but when the last major storm hit campus, it took DC 4 days to plow out the neighborhood. But yeah, all these transplants freaking out never ceases to make me laugh. 3 districts are already closing early today despite the fact that the snow isn't hitting until 8-9PM.

I remember a comedy show at DC Improv after a snowstorm, perhaps the big one in 2003. The comedian (I'm about 90% it was Mike Birbiglia, but not positive), described the D.C. Government's snow removal plan as:
Operation: Wait for the Sun

I was in school for the blizzard of '78 - DC was closed for a week. Does everyone have their brooms ready? I don't believe I saw one snow shovel there that whole week. Most important lesson learned that week: old timey fiberglass cafeteria trays make astoundingly great sleds.

Did New South and Wisey's run out of food then too? We knew we were saved in '03 when the Dominos scooters started running on the 3rd day heh.

I was living in Henle that year so we had cleaned Safeway out of enough milk, bread, bacon, and canned goods to last a month.

I just remember the first snow my freshman year (2003) walking down N street with a guy I'd just met who ended up being one of Those College Friends. He slipped on some ice and fell backwards and JUST as I got the first laugh out, his foot caught mine and I went down too. We laughed like idiots for five minutes. /Nostalgia thread.

Is the Pourhouse in the East Village still a Georgetown bar? I haven't anything this year about it...I'd like to go over there tomorrow to watch the ODU game, but I know it is also a Kansas bar and the Jayhawks are playing my other alma mater at the same time.
Anyone have an idea?

I'm actually really excited for the weather! Georgetown is a beautiful place and hittin' the bar before walkin' down the street between the snowy buildings of DC to a small but historic arena for a game between a powerhouse basketball program and a local mid-major is pretty much the perfect day for me, and ODU winning would only be the cherry on top. Was that a run-on sentence lol? Anyways I can't wait! Also, who's down for a pre-game snowball fight between our two fan bases?

This has just been confirmed in an email from the Hoop Club. Holiday Party is canceled, game is still going to be played as of right now, but they're gently reminding people to be careful out there and that it's on MASN anyway...

Based on the way DC predicts snow, since they're calling for a foot of snow we'll either get less than an inch or we'll be buried in 6+feet of snow.
