Now now, this is where we go to vent our frustrations when these young kids don't measure up to our inflated expectations! Seriously, there is a place for discussions about develoments and even deficienies of players, but I agree that the mean-spirited bashing that goes on doesn't make sense. We all want every one of these kids to develop and to contribute, right? Sometimes it almost seems like some posters actually WANT some players to fail, and can't wait to crow about it when they do.

I admit that I made a post I'm not proud of after the ODU game attacking Henry. But I'm a stats guy and I understand confirmation bias. I watched the latest game with a less biased eye after reading HP--I thought he looked OK. I'd actually like to see a bit more of him on the court to see if the +/- is showing something that I've been missing. I love what Vaughn has brought this year, and while I'm enthusiastic about Benimon, I'd like to see what Henry can do for us as the first big off the bench in most situations. Go get 'em Henry!

Obviously the sentiments will vary by the game, with the anti's screaming with each unproductive game, and the pro's carrying the day when Henry contributes. Let's hope for much more of the latter, we wil need it if we are going anywere this season.

I dont know if anyone is familar with baseball in the NY market, But Henry Sims reminds my of the Mets first baseman Daniel Murphy. Murphy is a home grown guy and all the fans calling the sports talk shows wax- poetic about him as he can do no wrong. Murphy is a great kid always positive, says the right things and clearly has a love for the game. The only problem is hes just not as good as the fans think he is. First they tryed him in left field where he was a complete joke, every pop fly an adventure so off to first he goes. Yet the fans calling the sports talk shows say "oh no big deal cut him a break lets see how he does at first".. Offensivly very very average a 265 hitter with no pop and no speed..
This really sounds like Henry Sims SO FAR.... A great kid, loves the game and his team. Most fans on hoya chat, think he can do no wrong. As I read "well hes improving and doing a great job."... When In fact a freshmen has passed him by, he cant play defense and has showed 0 offensive game. Id ask anyone to tell me when hes put two offensive moves together and scored...
Right now both these players in 2 very different sports share alot of similarities. The fun part is Murphy can turn into an mvp and Sims can turn into all league from what I see unlikely but we will see ....

gosh, I guess some fans just LIKE THEIR TEAMS... but this odd phenomenon of fandom seems to have escaped you rf. So one last time, let's walk through it - Henry gets assisteses, which I seem to recall are an OFFENSIVE statistic, a method of contributing offensively (as opposed to your method of posting, which many here also find offensive). More importantly, our coach, who knows almost as much about basketball as you do, seems to think Hank deserves minutes, and seems happy(!) with what happens when he plays. Maybe coach knows that only half of the game involves scoring, or maybe he just likes henry cause he is sweet and local and kind, maybe coach doesn't care about winning and puts henry in games so that late and night, when McDonough is empty and no one is looking he can log onto hoyatalk and enjoy some schadenfreude. I don't know for sure but my guess is this: Coach thinks Henry can play. Now, and this is the hard part to follow: nobody here needs to show you anything more about what HS adds to the team because you are too flipping ignorant or just too stubborn to care about those FACTS and instead want to continue to go out of your way to be a mean as possible to and about this young man who represents us all and our university. Your choice, but you are perilously close to the ignore button for many of us. You my friend remind me of many NY sports fans who think it is really cool to spend hard earned money and time to go to sporting events and boo the home team. I live in the NY area and was raised here and I understand frustration when your team consistently sucks, but what I never understand is going out of your way to put your resources towards beating up on people who do something you can't do just because they do it in a way that does not meet your exacting (though perhaps idiotic) standards. You are what it known as a hater and on a sunny day you will complain about that one cloud up there, that one way over in the corner of the sky, even if it is not blocking your sun (11-1) and even though you yourself are a far nastier blight on the sun than that little opaque cloud could ever be in his wildest sunblocking dreams. You hate, maybe because deleted, I don't know but lic could probably figure it out. Statistics? You want statistics? Here is one... ZERO. That is what you have ever done to help the Hoyas win a game. When that changes, we will all be happy to hear what you have to say about making this team better. Until then, shut up and enjoy the ride. Because its fun, at least as long as Editedants like you are not Editeding on the players. ps: "I don't know if anyone is familiar with baseball in the NY market..." ? ARe you kidding me? Six year old kids in Africa who live 200 mile from the nearest TV are familiar with at least one of the teams in the NY baseball market, deleted. Did you go to GU? Have you ever read anything written by anyone other than yourself on this board? Half your classmates and probably 3/4 of this board grew up within a 5 hour drive of Manhattan - even a condescending hole like you should be able to figure out that most folks on an internet sports forum are probably "familiar" with NY baseball...jeebus! MOD NOTE: Keep the foul language out of your posts please.

"Most fans on Hoya chat (sic) think he can do no wrong?"
Rich, you have the weirdest view of poster opinion I have ever seen. Find me any post that says Henry can do no wrong. I can find quite a few that claim he can do no right.
For example: I have never seen Henry put together two offensive moves and score, at least not this year. Happy?
But he can play defense -- despite some breakdowns the team has performed very well with him on D. You ignore his quality passing, the fact that he knows where to be on offense, makes pretty good cuts -- which are all improvements from last year.

Seaweed that is one of the most ignorant and worthless posts I ever read.
1. I dont know How I was mean or demeaning to the player. The board is for opinion on anything hoya. Ive stated how impressed I am with Hollis, Jerelle, chris and greg in the past. I guess criticism is not tolerated in your mind. I am far from a hater my friend. I guess youll have to take my word on that though since you have never watched games with me. I spend my hard earned money to catch at least 2 away games every year to root the hoyas on. BTW we won the last 4 games ive been too...
2. Asking me what ive done to help the hoyas win.. hmm you got me there, I was not lucky enough to make the hoyas roster so i guess directly your right, i scored probably as many points as you..
3. Your way out of line calling me ignorant, I guess everyone on campus knows who daniel murphy is and all his stats. I thought it was an intresting comparison.. You can disagree with me all you want but you dont have to be nasty about it.

This line of reasoning reminds me of the cromagnon callers who dial into WEII and eviscerate J.D. Drew because he doesn't hit enough RBIs or HRs for their liking...despite the fact his defense and ability to get onbase more than make up for it. It's a perverse form of tunnel vision where a certain exact performance is required for those types of fans to appreciate the contributions. If you don't fit that precise mold, you are subject to withering diatribes.
Personally, I love Hammering Hank, even if he does run like Kermit the Frog.

Oh, and if we're being all negative, Daniel Murphy does, in fact, suck. I don't care where you play him.

Sorry kruk. But, I wasn't telling you anything you didn't know. I'm a Yanks fan that actually doesn't root against the Mets. I just think their front office/ownership is deplorable.

I've seen Henry in H.S and came away impressed for most parts , in fact I was excited for him to get to the Hilltop .. so I refuse to give up on him. He will be a much needed piece to our puzzle this season and I expect him to stay positive , keep working hard and sooner or later it will pay-off/show. I just feel bad because he's under the Microscope heavy with NO ROOM FOR ERROR. I trust coach and I feel in the long run Henry will be fine and this thread will be framed for him. as for my METS ... (sorry PR) RE: "I just think their front office/ownership is deplorable." <--- I take it your being nice .. smh .. OMAR's a BUM in my eye's & our organization is a joke! Poor Dan Murphy .. even catching heat on HOYATALK.. who would've thought?
