Need to improve rebounding and defense.

Vee and Hollis both looked great!!!! Ryan and Steven (what the real spelling?) got some PT too! Jerelle dressed and warmed up but got no PT, hopefully he will continue to get healthy and start playin a little

From my eyes, no. However, you never can tell who they are going to credit with the TO. Julian was involved with three straight TOs in the second half and I bet he gets one of them.

greg did turn the ball over alot today.....nevada, they got 64 because they hit a lot of treys...but we shut them down from midway in the first half on....they scored a ton in garbage time and that inflated their score a bit

They shot 42% from the floor. A little high for a team at their level against a BE team. However, outside of that very small critique, we played awesome.

Lafayette started out 6-7 from three-point land....they went 3-19 the rest of the way....the defense was fine

I couldn't see but they seemed to be getting a lot of wide open two pointers in the second half. And we gave up too many second chance points as well.

I'm actually surprised by the stat sheet, it seemed at the game like Lafayette shot the ball extremely well. For a while in the first half, it seemed like anytime we would start to pull away, they would hit a 3. However, Lafayette is not good on D, and we made them pay. Hollis looked great today, and Monroe looked like Jeff Green with all his assists. Jason Clark looks like he's gonna be a star. Not sure how much we can extrapolate from this game, but hopefully this is one that can serve to get the offense rolling for the rest of the season.

We didn't get to 100 we need to scrap the offense!
Seriously though great game. Looke a lot better on offense. Very very crisp. Didn't seem like there were as many turnovers, but I haven't looked at the box score. Hollis looked very good as did Jason! Everyone but benimon got in the game. He was dressed but had a big brace on his ankle and wasn't ready to go yet. Everyone who played scored except ryan dougherty. Shooting was very good. Made crisp passes. Even looked good against the zone. Also we shot really well from the FT we were perfect form the line till late in the game when julian stared going to the line. Can't wait to check out the box score. But it was a very good game for us. There were lapses in reboundign and defense at times, but it wasn't bad.

Lafayette has some very good shooters.
Oh and if anyone missed it or wants to relive it the game is supposed to be replayed tomorrow at 7pm on MASN

It's hard to say what we can take from the game, because I just couldn't tell how good (or bad) Lafayette was based on my view from the cheap seats. Took my four boys to today's game and I wasn't about to shell out $40 per seat to be in the lower bowl. Here are my observations from section 410:
- Clark and Thompson give us more from outside than we had last year. They can really shoot it and that's going to make a huge difference for how teams play Monroe. They're ballers and both have the potential to be really special players...add them to the mix on top of proven studs like Monroe, Freeman and Wright and this team is stacked with talent.
- Vaughn has improved. He is much more physical than last year and is an improvement at power forward over Summers (at least when matched with Monroe - not saying he is better than Summers). I really liked what I saw in garbage time when he and Sims were in together. We'll need Vaughn in the BE.
- Sims...I'm dismayed that he didn't even get into the game until under 3 minutes in the first half and until there were about 10 minutes left in the second. The fact that he hasn't cracked the top 7 speaks volumes about where JTIII thinks he is. When he got into the game, he promptly turned the ball over on back-to-back possessions which makes me think he's rattled and feeling the pressure. That said, I thought he played well in the second half...made some really nice entry passes to both Greg and Vaughn. He also pulled down some nice boards and had an electric block on a fast break. He's clearly developing...these next few games will show a lot about his readiness for the BE season. He is very active and seems to know more about where he is supposed to be.
-Defense against the 3-ball in the first half was suspect. Too many open looks and Lafayette was hot. Defense for the rest of the game was very, very good. Lafayette was a decent test in that they are clearly a very disciplined, well-coached team.
I'll leave it to others who didn't have to manage a bunch of restless kids to post more.

Need to improve rebounding and defense. I was going to say the turnovers needed to be cut down too but I noticed that Dan said the team only had 11. I would have sworn it was 20. I'm not as worried about the defense as I am the lack of interior scoring/postup game so far. And it still doesn't look as if the team even practices a fastbreak drill. Also knocking down threes is nice but its still fool's gold. Freeman is the only guy with a money midrange game although Clark's pullup jumper inside the three, from the top of the key, looks automatic. By the way I'd rather have Chris take a long two or a midrange two rather than a three pointer.
