Nice find, Dan. The other players will feed off Nate's playing style. The signing period cannot come soon enough...

I went to see Nate with the Playaz today at Double Pump's Best of Summer. Below is my report:
Nate is a fantastic finisher. This is his most important quality as a player, and as an incoming recruit to GU. WE NEED THAT. He has a great feel for the game and when to get out and run(although sometimes his teammates turned the ball over on a fast break and he was left wondering what happened on the other side of the court). His passing vision is great for a big man. Crisp, clean quick passes. Finishes with authority when he gets the chance. Almost had one of the best one handed putback dunks I've ever seen. A lot of people say Nate hustles a lot, but it doesn't appear that way with the way he runs. That being said, he was still working harder than anyone else on the court. He gets in such good position for both offensive and defensive rebounds. Whenever he's on the offensive end and a teammate takes a shot, he's immediately thinking 2nd chance opportunity. He has REALLY long arms and disrupts passing lanes easily. He is very effective in the press, which the Playaz ran quite a lot and he even stole the ball from the opposing team's PG a couple of times. The one knock on Nate is his shooting. His free throw stroke looks decent, but didn't produce good results in this game. He took one open 3 and missed well short, but I have no doubt that he will continue to work on this aspect of his game. It was hard for me to judge the heights of the opposing players, but I would guess that this isn't one of the highest levels of competition he's played against, and as we know he's proven he can do his thing against the best. He finished with a double double more than likely although I didn't keep stats. If I had to guestimate, 26 and 10, with a couple of assists, a couple of steals.

Cool. Thanks for the write-up. I'm not too worried about the shooting -- it's one of the more random things out there so one game is tough to gauge and he supposedly has a nice stroke at the line. I love that he offensive rebounds and finishes. A shame he has another year of high school.

jkhoya12 you said "A lot of people say Nate hustles a lot, but it doesn't appear that way with the way he runs." - I'm not clear on what you are saying. Could you elaborate.

jkhoya12 you said "A lot of people say Nate hustles a lot, but it doesn't appear that way with the way he runs." - I'm not clear on what you are saying. Could you elaborate. It looks like he's jogging or running slowly, but his strides are real long so he's actually getting up and down the floor fairly well.

Nate listed by Hoop Scoop as the 4th best player (all positions) overall of all those who played in the major summer camps (nba & show camps)

any chance he pulls a hollis thompson and shows up in jan? Actually now that he is moving in on a good shot at being a McDAA why possibly deprive him of that? Anyway I'm happy that at least the HoopScoop guys have been paying attention for the last few months. I've been complaining about Rivals "only" having Nate at #47. But then I saw that maxpreps, after their July evaluation, has Nate at #95 or #99! Seriously what drugs are they smoking? They even put Tyler Thornton ahead of him. Hoopscoop, like every other site, is hit or miss but I thought I'd share with you its take on how it ranks players. Here's a recent excerpt from the free page of the site: www.hoopscooponline.com/visitors/free-visitors.htmlWe also think it's important to point out that unlike some of our competitors we're not just looking at size, athleticism, and pro potential when compiling these rankings. Thus, explains why we have 7'0 Fabricio DeMelo (Fab Melo) from Weston (Sagemont) FL ranked so much lower than most our competition. DeMelo does have all of the ingredients necessary to develop into a force to be reckoned with inside down the road. But right now DeMelo is not even the best player on a struggling AAU team and it is our editorial policy to let a player earn it. As a matter of fact, more players than we care to remember have been ruined by reading their press clippings and, as a result, believing that they are better than they really are. In contrast, we take into consideration a number of things, like where a player is right now, how much he's already improved, what kind of attitude and work ethic he has, and both college and NBA potential. And, if you want to be ranked among the truly elite players in the nation, you'd better be pretty darn good right now.

Nate Lubick interview...at 2009 Adidas Nations - interesting interview that is totally at odds with the rumors earlier this summer.

On HR it was reported, thanks to an interview Carlos did with Nate, that Nate was up here during one weekend hanging out with the current Hoya players while all that hysteria about his supposed decommitment was going on. Just crazy.
