I really think we can be special. Unlike this year, next year we will have a ton of length, not only with Greg and Henry up front, but with Hollis on the wing at a long 6-8. I think Chris will be the very best point guard in the conference and I think Austin will have a much better season now that he's not fluctuating between the two and the three.
Right now, our bench is thin. BUT. Jason has the potential to be the best sixth man in the league, and Nikita has experience, and Julian has experience up front. Much, in terms of next season's depth, will depend on who and what we may add. But the first eight we have is a pretty solid eight.
I think, if we make the commitment to defense, that we have potential to really make it a special year. And this will be our best chance since Jeff and co, to go back to a final four. Not many teams will be able to match up with Greg and Henry's length on the interior.

Right now we have very good potential. But we did last year too. But i believe that with some experience under our guys belts we will be much improved. If we add a good ballhandler to back up chris( whether it's a new player or jason finds a handle) and another Forward I think we'll be contending for the Big East title, and if you're competing for the big east title that means you have final four potential.

Echo what Daytona said completely!!! ;D Add to that--we now know the "core" of team is returning and can focus on adding some additions to make the team: Deeper, more athletic, more versatile, and help in weak areas. Biggest Recruit Hoyas could land was/is GREG MONROE!! He's back and this helps program move past this frustrating year and move back on track to contending. Let's go get some help for the core guys and get after it!!

agreed with most of dayton's assessment excpet "best chance @ final four". Taking away the fluke loss to Davidson, I think the 07-08 team was headed right back to the final four.

I agree with the optimism... and adding a defensive-minded big like Latavious Williams would probably cement the Hoyas as a potential top-10 team for me.

You think we woulda beat the eventual champion Kansas team? Maybe. Just a bold statement. And I agree that this team could be prepared to make a big run at it. Honestly, I think we are a top 25 team at the start of the season, and we're a Sweet 16 team. We're 2 recruits away from a final 4 contender. But that is IF...and a BIG IF...out guys keep their heads on, work on their weaknesses, and dedicate themselves to improving a few areas where we know they have the talent to do better than they did last year (i.e. DEFENSE).

As of now, we are looking at this as a lineup (in my opinion). A little thin but talented and a year older (i.e. experience)
Wright Freeman Thompson Monroe Sims ______
Clark Vaughn Nikita
But, if Sanford and Latavious become Hoyas, well you got yourself a deep, experienced and talented team.
Wright Freeman Thompson Monroe Sims ______
Clark Latavious Williams Vaughn Vee Sanford Nikita

I thought the 07-08 team would make the final 8, but we weren't beating that Kansas team. They would've been a little too much for us. I did think we were going to the final eight, though. we would've smacked wisconsin

adding either Vee or that texas PG and LW would be Sweet! I think we got full court pressed almost every game last year. A backup ballhandler and Superior athlete off the bench helps us immensely.

Add at least 4 more wins to the 2009-10 schedule. Maybe more. What a relief.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I think we could have a really good team but after getting my hopes up last December and then being let down, I'm staying cautious. Greg returning is HUGE though. If you have a really good big man, a really good lead guard, and some other solid players in between them who can make shots, that's a recipe for success in college hoops, and right now I think we've got that.
Still, there's a lot of proving to do. We were 0-5 against 3 in-conference teams that have lost less than us this offseason and in some cases have gained more (SHU, SJU, UC). We need to prove we can beat those teams before we start thinking about making tournament runs. I think we CAN beat those teams, but there's no proof for now.

Vee Sanford would not get close to the rotation next year

Yeah but he would be on the bench and in practice. At least he is a collegiate player pushing the team instead of a practice player. He may only need to play 5 minutes a game or so.

Vee Sanford would not get close to the rotation next year I don't think that's right. There's a very real need for a backup PG given Clark's shaky handle. Factor in that Freeman is going to be playing some 3 (because Hollis isn't playing 40 minutes) and you need another guard. There's PT for someone that can handle on ball pressure next year.

If I think about next year, I do think there's an opportunity to be special. Where does the team need shoring up? - Can Sims, Vaughn or Monroe add a reliable low post game? Ours faded as the year went on and the foul calls went uncalled. We need one to be elite.
- Who's hitting the outside shot? We just lost our only truly good three point shooter. Perhaps Austin will reappear as a consistent threat.
- Do we have a second ballhandler?
- Interior D and both sets of Rebounding. This, to my mind, is all on Sims being able to join Monroe for 30 good minutes. That happens, and this will happen.
- Playing as a team. We fell apart in pressure situations on both offense and defense last year, and we seemed to fall apart in a manner where we didn't work together. That simply has to change.

Too many rose-colored glasses. Did any of you actually watch this year's team?

I'm with ed on this one. I think this team has potential, but they're going to need to show me something first next year.

agree with easyed. this team team still has a ton of holes including no one who can shoot the 3, mediocre rebounding, poor backcourt defense and ballhandling and questionable heart.
we're addressing the rebounding hopefully with added length... but wright, freeman, thompson, nikita and clark need to be shooting and dribbling all day between now and midnight madness.

bottom line it comes down to this.. if we learn how to hit some outside shots again it opens up for cutters and we are automatically a much more dangerous team
