how do transfer's really help us?....I'm pretty sure we need reinforcements NEXT year...not '10 We need reinforcements both years, and every year. In a perfect world we'd love to add a great player for next year, but if we can add a great player for the year after I'm cool with that too. If they don't leave this month Greg and DaJuan will definitely be gone by this time next year. I don't think it's a big secret that we're concerned about losing Henry as well. We desperately need some good big guys for when Greg leaves. Right now all we've got is Nate. While he will help, we need more. I for one am hoping that Larry Sanders from VCU transfers. He's only a soph and if he has real NBA aspirations it might help his cause to sit out a year and then prove himself against legit high major competition, rather than beating up on CAA guys for the next two years and getting to show himself maybe once per year when VCU plays a high major. The trip from Richmond to DC isn't all that far, though if he wanted to go to a high major he might just follow Grant to Bama. Anybody who hasn't seen VCU might wonder why I care about a CAA guy, but anybody who has seen them play knows what I mean. 6'10 rebounder/shotblocker/terrific athlete who would be a perfect compliment to a Monroe or a Sims. And I know this thread is about guys who might get released from LOIs (which I have been researching as well), but it's still a little too early in the coaching carousel to know for sure, IMO.

The VCU posters on Caazone seem to to think that he is the least likely of all of their players to transfer but from what I saw of the CAA tourney I agree that he could have an impact here as a banger and a rebounder. However, from what I saw Josh Thorton was easily one of the best players (if not the best) in the CAA tourney so take that with some salt.

I knew of his reputation going into the tournament, and people are talking about him as an NBA talent. I made a point to watch him against UCLA in the first round and was very impressed. He could stand to put on a little weight, but he is very athletic and a force in the middle, especially on the defensive end. I would love to have him if he became available. And with Grant gone, I can't imagine that he's not at least considering his options.

Just heard - 90% chance Cal is gone. He just met with Memphis's prez and already met with his players. no conference called yet so still chance he may stay...

Could Calapari recruit Latavious over to Kentucky?

UK already has a nice class that was coming in under Billy G. Assuming they remain committed and the fact that it's expected Cousins and Henry follow Cal wherever he goes, there wont be room for Latavious unless there are some unexpected transfers and/or both Patterson and Meeks leave early.

ALOT of teams will be looking to get in with latavious. with all the coaching changes and players moving things will be opening up. Let's just hope he gets academically qualified first-- sounds like kid is working hard at it.

As one of the most athletic frontcourt players in the 2009 class, Latavious Williams has emerged as a top recruiting target for Georgetown. Coach John Thompson III traveled to Houston last week to spend some time recruiting Williams. Georgetown has emerged as a serious player for Latavious Williams. "Coach Thompson came up last week and it went pretty good," Williams told Rivals.com. "He liked the way I practiced and wants me to visit after my season. He said they need an athletic 4 man to come in because [DaJuan] Summers is probably leaving." Sounds like SUmmers had made up his mind a while ago. Hope this gets Williams to the Hilltop. If Summers leaving directly leads to Williams coming it would be a huge net positive for the program.

Not that he wasn't beforehand, but he just became an even larger priority. While I do think switching out Dajuan for a sophomore Henry will have a lot of benefits (i.e. rebounding, defense), it still leaves us woefully thin inside. Dajuan, while I don't think he made for a great 4, could play the 4 in a pinch. Nikita can't do that. Hollis can't do that either. So now we have 3 guys for 2 spots. Adding Williams would make us a lot more athletic inside and a lot deeper.

If Williams had any reservations about playing time at Memphis because of Cousins, he shouldnt have any worry with dajuan gone. (of course with cal being gone, memphis' situation changes too)

Re: Williams, he was being recruited all along under the assumption that Summers would not be back. So the DaJuan "news" is actually old news to him. Really no idea what will happen with Calipari, there's no real precedent for anything like this. I think Cousins didn't sign an LOI, so he's free to go to Kentucky, and Wall is not yet committed, so he is too. Does Orton stay with UK, and do the other current UK commits? Rumor also was that Witherspoon and some of the other Memphis young guys would try to transfer to UK. If so, they may not even try to recruit LW. And who knows if he'll have any interest in Memphis post-coaching change. If he likes whoever goes there, and there is an exodus from Memphis for the draft and because Cal left, there'd probably be a lot of PT there.
But overall I still like our chances, if he can qualify. Gonna have to wait this one out.

you are correct RB- cousins did not sign and wall obviously has waited--smart kid. henry is the only one who i believed signed.
floyd/anderson 2 names for memphis job. memphis as it was had not been recruiting LW as hard recently.

question...does a recruit have to commit and sign before the late signing day or can it be after this time? what I mean is should we expect to hear news before in the next few weeks?

The late signing period starts April 15 and closes on May 20 ( link). Players can give non-binding verbal commitments at any time, so you really could hear at any point. Nothing can be official until Tax Day, though.

I really hope Latavious comes here. He is not the proto-typical Georgetown player, but he may keep Chris Wright happy.

Sure feels like Latavious is the most important potential recruit in a LONG time. We have a real momentum problem right now and his signing could be a turning point. Signing him and Vee Sanford would go a long way to assuaging our fears about the program's direction. But missing out on these guys and resorting to third tier recruits like the rail thin Turkish guy referenced in another thread really worries me.
The next 2 months are just critical for the program.
Best Case: This becomes Chris Wright's team and everyone buys into the heart and effort he gave at the end of the year. Freeman disciplines himself to become a better defender and an assassin from the 3 point line. Monroe stays and dominates as he is capable of. Sims stays and he and Monroe become a leathal twin towers that defenders fear. Add Latavius and Hollis at the 3 to them and we have one of the best front courts in the country. Then we can give our bench which woudl include Nikita, Clark, Vaugn and Sanford a lot of minutes Wow. That would be a lot of fun and that team would have a TON of upside. I think this squad would be in contention for a top 4 finish in the Big East and by March could go on a fun little run.
Contrast that with our Worst Case: We lose out on Latavius and Sanford. Monroe goes pro. A stud transfers out. Then we are TINY. Wright, Freeman, Hollis and Clark star with Vaughn or Nikita as our 5. COME ON!!! Our bench is paper thin. Ugh. I can't even imagine where we would be. Let's just say we won't be on the NIT bubble if this comes true.
The next two months are key and it has been a long time sicne there has been a recruit as important as Latavius is. (OK, recruiting Monroe to do one more year is equally important) BUT WE NEED YOU LATAVIUS. COME ON!!!
