Dude, I totally forgot to give a HUGE shout out to the band - thanks for reminding me, hoyatables. The Band goes to every game, foresaking studying, partying (which other students can do during games), and a healthy love life (ok, that's only most - hey, I'm only speaking from experience ), and they cheer ALL THE TIME (unlike most people in the student section upper levels), go along with every cheer (and start many as well), actually have rhythm and tempo in their cheers, and play their hearts out. They know more about gtown hoops and gtown tradition than 98% of the student body, and deserve to have the best seats in the house, IMO. That said, the upperclassmen and alums are going to destroy the lower classmen on sunday. Done and done. P.S. #45 might actually work . . . .

Wait, I thought uppers/alums won by a TD last year? When I threw Childs to the ground on a kickoff, or something like that? Anyway . . .
You guys are toast and you know it! The indefensible I-back offense is back, we're meaner, and we're hungry. It's gonna be a slaughterhouse. Your kids are gonna ask "daddy, why do you walk funny like that?" and you're gonna have to answer "well, little johnny, it's because of the whooping i got during band bowl 2k5."

Put the Dance Team in the first row of the section behind the band. Then, still in uniform, they can help whip up that whole area if Hoya Blue doesn't want to move some of their best cheerers up there.
And it all comes down to the nickelback. Go upperclassmen. And alums. Who at least know about it this time around.

The Indefensible I Back formation this year anyone?

Oh yeah, that's right! Ok, so I guess we were both right, hoyabliu: OUR team ruled the day last year.
Either way, the team the alums are on is gonna roll. Mark these words!

I agree with drumsgobang that we should have the OTHER teams roster on the fan sheets ... this should have been changed a long time ago ... if a fan doesnt know our guys name by now he probably isnt going to cheer loud anyway ... we need to get into their heads

straight up, dude. we used to do that back in the day (99-00 i think?). it was awesome.
i'm also a fan of dissing the waterboy if wears pink, telling the coach to sit down, and picking on a hapless benchwarmer/telling the coach to play said benchwarmer. especially if the game is against uconn.

Yaaa! people are paying attention to me.
TOWELS
Oh and I have a new play for this year, better then the unstoppable "I" . It's called the foward pass. I think Notre Dame was experimenting with it. Remember, I'm a freight train (hazmat and now illegal in DC) and I'm coming to sack you underclassmen.
Another note: See what happens when you mention the band on Hoyatalk? At least 3 current band members and a bunch of alumni defend them. You bad mouth the dance team and no one but the people who think they are hot defend them. Your group doesn't get resevered seating in MCI if you don't have members that post on Hoyatalk.

I've been reading this thread with great interest, and I've refrained from posting because I wanted to see how things played out, and also because the band was being well defended by current and alumni members. That said, a few thoughts:
- While I appreciate the arguments of those who feel that the band's space could be better taken up by students (disregarding the fact that band members ARE students), I feel this disregards both the fan strength of the band and the weaker tendencies of the general student section. I mean, who would you rather have in the front row? A sober guy paying fervent attention to all that happens on the court and cheering his lungs out, or a drunk fool with gimmicky costume preening for the camera and fellow students? I'm not saying all or even most of those who sit in the student section are like this, but obviously some are.
- Drums Go Bang is right. The band should be next to the visitor's bench. They can't run plays if they can't hear their coach.
- While many have pointed out schools that put their bands further from the floor, IMO the vast majority of schools have their bands right where ours is. The Big East and NCAA Tournaments also put the bands in the same spot (except for the Pond, which had us in two long rows courtside, which was weird).
- the Dance Team and the Groove Theory are gimmicks that add nothing to the student section. I don't think one performance per game should be enough to guaruntee free tickets or a performance each and every game. Sorry if I sound mean, I guess it's not really that big a deal.
- The band practices at least twice a week, goes to every football and most women's games, arrives earlier and leaves later at MCI, does battle with the Villanova band (don't ask), has gone to every game in the past few crappy years (they were the student section most times),and can't even drink or swear during the games. The least you can do is give 'em a seat near the court.
- Underclassmen are going down. Alumni I-Back will destroy you all.

I was not a band member but the fact that so many band members and band alums post on this board says a lot about their level of fandom

dude this thread is off the hook - i didn't even know a band member while i was at GU - thought they were holed up hibernating until basketball season, where they would be thawed out for a couple of hours a week, then placed back in a deep freeze....

Is there a record for number of posts in one thread? This is probably coming close to the t-shirt thread and the Save the Hoyas thread.

Do I get props for starting it even though it had nothing to do with the band, the dance team, lic, Brian the alcoholic dog, busses, the Dodgers, or the press?

This was supposed to be about the girl in the student section who had her shirt ripped off. Yeah, what was the deal with that anyway? We could probably devote 10 more pages to exploring the intricacies of that topic.
