When I talked to Dawkins in the spring, he told me he didn't, but that Duke was coming on.

Palmer was a classic example of an overhyped big, who cause he chose Duke was supposed to be the next Laettner. Yes and no. He was a big man from Arlington, VA who chose Duke. He was also possibly a McDAA and a definite Capital Classic pick (back when that was a huge honor for a high school basketball players nationwide to get), but he turned out to be a bit of a bust at Duke which caused him to transfer. However he was never assumed to be the next Christian Laettner because he and Laettner arrived at Duke at the same time. In fact he may have been more highly regarded than Laettner (a definite McDAA) by some folks.

UNC, then Duke, then UCLA are in a league of their own right now.
There's a whole bunch of schools in the next tier, including us. Some of these schools seemingly have quality, near Top 10 classes every year, and some do the nothing class then monster class approach like Nova has or Florida.

For God's sake--this is a thread about ROSCOE SMITH---who is our top priority in '10 class and has been. III landed the top priority in '07 (Wright), in '08 (Monroe), in '09 (Hollis), and Roscoe is it for '10. Other great kids will be involved and come or choose other schools but let's keep focus on ROSCOE SMITH in the ROSCOE SMITH THREAD!!! There are other threads you can post/start on this board to discuss recruiting of other schools. You left out Macklin in '06. I like that track record. Let's make sure Roscoe Smith continues the tradition!

I figured the question had a better chance of being answered here since we already broached the subject. Thanks for all the responses. Very informative. Can't believe I forgot Memphis, UConn, and TN. So about Roscoe Smith, then, does he project more like Jeff or DaJuan or is he more perimeter oriented than either? Thanks to all the gurus and "in the knows" -- your info really makes this board that much better.

Has Roscoe set a timeframe for a decision?

roscoe i think also has a better handle than dajuan making him more capable of creating from the perimeter. roscoe is like reggie williams now-- body size wise. if he fills out into the modern day NBA body he could be lebronesque. but years away from that.
i think roscoe's decison comes this spring/summer- at least after the season.
harrison barnes will vist UNC sometime this winter. trying to get him out there for a game.
although the thread did go astray i thought the topic was interesting. we should start a new thread maybe.

It's not a major deal to me but this is perhaps a little revisionist. Lubick never had an offer from Duke. By summer '08 their first choice at the 4 spot was clearly Hairston. They pushed hard for him, had him visit after K came back from the olympics and locked him up. Lubick never really entered the equation for them because he didn't have an offer and they got their first choice at that position. We on the other hand did not get our first choice, which is why Lubick got the offer and committed shortly thereafter. Basically both schools had offered their first choice in Hairston, and once they won that battle Lubick was next on the list.
Re: Dawkins, here's a quote from an old Rivals article (looks like I was wrong earlier about him not having an offer):
"Georgetown is the other school in hot pursuit of Dawkins.
"Coach Thompson just talked to my dad and wanted it to be known that they are officially offering me a scholarship," said Dawkins..."Georgetown and Maryland are my top schools," he said. "They are showing the most interest, and I like their coaches."
Shortly after that Duke offered, had him on campus and he committed. He had been on record previously saying Duke was his favorite team growing up. Unfortunately, I think the guy would have been a perfect fit in our system. As Starks is(will be) to Wright, Dawkins would have been to Freeman. Solidly built at 6'4, fantastic shooter and even has been described in the way so many other GU players are described, including Freeman--"he lets the game come to him."
wasn t quite sure the details of it all. thanks for the clarification rb. i know before hairston was in the duke firing line lubick was a guy their fans were talking up. i know he didn t have an offer from them but it seemed, according to their fans, he was a prime target. once josh came on the scene, nate was on the backburner.
dawkins is a bit of a surprise, in that i was under the impression we weren t on him that hard because everyone knew he was going to duke. interesting.
oh, and i hope we get roscoe...

www.digitalsports.com/team/id/79461.aspxhighlight from walbrook-northwestern from friday night. and interview with roscoe. i heard Roy williams was in the building checking out Roscoe. i honestly don't know what this means but i think roy is making sure he has all his options available- mckie/prather/roscoe. roy does not want to get burned like he did with delvon roe. This one won't fully play out until the spring.

I think the way Roy is handling this is going to back fire on him. Roscoe is one of the best players in the class and Roy doesn't want to show him the respect to offer him. Roy can tell him anything he wants to, but not offering says it all.
Keep playing games Roy and in the end Roscoe will end up where he is really wanted and will be a star from Day 1 - GEORGETOWN.

unc fans will tell you that roscoe sr told the unc rivals site that they are ok with unc not offering and that roscoe jr may verbal one day even without the offer being made. unc fans feel that if ol roy wants him all he has to do is say the word and it is done. but the longer this drags out ( not offering ) and the more recruits they look at ( barnes, prather, mckie ) the more it is likely to turn sour.
or not...
