Bill Russell's last year in the league was Pat Jr's first year in high school.

I'm sure Pat knows Russell through Pops, a longtime friend of Russell's.

Its too bad that pat wasnt like a Durant type guaranteed good player where they un-retired 33 so he could wear it then re-retired it after he was gone. I know a bunch of you are going to disagree, but there is no reason to jump down my throat for a pipe dream.

I read an article that quoted Ewing Sr as saying that the number could come down from the rafters for his son. Maybe it was junior's choice.

JT II was Bill Russell's backup on the Boston Celtics from 1964-66. As mapei mentioned, they are good friends. Red Auerbach was also a good friend and as a DC native, often around the program when JT II was coaching. PE Jr likely met Bill Russell at a very young age.
A great number to symbolize how PE Jr sees his NBA value developing.

Has Jr. signed a contract and made the team? Maybe I missed that.

Bill Russell's last year in the league was Pat Jr's first year in high school. PEJ went to high school in 1969? Must have been one hell of a post-grad program he was on for the 34 intervening years.

Bob Love once gave me a Starter Jacket, so I guess that makes him my favorite Bulls player?

Has Jr. signed a contract and made the team? Maybe I missed that. He signed a contract a long time ago with the Kings. When the Knicks traded for him...they picked up his contract. He can still get waived.

I hope that Pat has finally found a home in NY and won't get cut or traded again. I like that he's giving a shout out to the oldtimers. The Hoyas know their basketball heritage.

I know this has been discussed before but I really think Ewing has a chance in making the Knicks team. His style of play would fit in very well with D'Antoni's offense, and his defense fits in anywhere..I havent bought a NBA jersey in 15 years, might have to break the streak if Ewing makes a roster.

not knowing anything about the knicks or their roster, i would say yes only in the sense that there is another roster spot open. but the knicks could easily sign someone else to fill it
