I'm just saying. They'll say III/Pops got him cause he was black, had on black socks, whatever. Btw, I think DS was B'more POY. Yes, he was. And Sims was Co-POY. I agree with you about more time for Summers at the 3. Just depends on how the roster shakes out. But that is his best position.

Absolutely GIGANTIC for us and our prospects.
However, given that these are usually given for the health difficulties of family members (Tyler Smith), I hope everything works out for Julian.
Vaughn is a better player -- especially for Georgetown -- than Macklin.

PG/SGSapp Wright Clark Freeman SFFreeman Summers Nikita C/PFMonroe Sims Vaughan Summers Suddenly we have a LOT more depth and flexibility! You forgot to put Omar & Bryon in there with Nikita to backup the SF position but you are right - the extra big was much needed.

If we're comfortable with Freeman at the 2, we have zero depth issues even if Omar and Nikita aren't ready to help, and I suspect they are more than most think.

Does anyone else think that the Macklin transfer makes a lot more sense now? I'm guessing that since it is personal issue with Vaughn, he had been looking here before Macklin had announced his transfer. I am also guessing that the staff knew that a waiver was possible/likely when they were looking at him. Now I doubt he would have come in and taken over Macklins spot, it might have been the straw the broke the camels back. Now this is all assuming Vaughn had been thinking about Gtown before Macklin transfered.

I wouldn't think that the staff thought that a waiver was "likely" as the NCAA grants waivers about as often as Jim Calhoun smiles. This is a really, really rare (and welcome) occurrence. I feel so much better about next year.

It's a strech I know, but in hindsight everything seems to make sense.

This development reminds me of an article after our FF run where JT3 talked about how hard it is to position yourself to have success, and he needed to go back to the drawing board a bit to figure out how we could return to that position. He knew what was up and that a loss of Jeff and/or Roy would have damaged our chances for the upcoming year. The key in his comments is that you have to position yourself to have success.
That is exactly what this waiver gives us - an opportunity to have success. Whether success occurs is up to our guys. It is up to Julian. He probably knows what he needs to do to compete, so it is a matter of putting in the work and making it happen.
At a minimum, we have another body in the post to burn fouls, which helps us immeasurably. We're not forced to play Summers at the PF, depending on team development, and we could conceivably feature a "big" lineup with Sapp/Wright, Freeman/Sapp, Summers, Greg, and Sims/Vaughn. If guys don't perform/develop, we can pivot and go small or give Nikita/others more of a look.

Wow, this can't be anything but positive for the team. Hope it isn't anything too serious w/r/t Vaughn's family.

home.nc.rr.com/rsci/RSCI_100_Final_2007.htmIn case no one posted, the above takes you to a combined average ranking of top HS kids from a year ago. Vaughan came in at #66. FWIW, Freeman came in at 13 C Wright at: 28 Most of the guys listed ahead of Freeman got drafted already!

This is great news--for the team--and for Dajuan--who can play majority of his minutes at SF like he was recruited (I know--we don't have "positions" but you get my point). I also love that this team will be together and only lose Sapp if all goes as planned--so it sets up to be an even tougher team in future. Great news!
Also--I applaud the NCAA for making sure an athlete's ACADEMIC STANDING/EXCELLING IN CLASSROOM were part of the reason he got the waiver/immediate eligibility. For a group that screws up a lot of things--they got this one right--and should do this more in cases where kids are showing strong classroom results and aren't leaving for "playing time".

exceptional news....
just finished watching the WV - GU game in this year's BE tourney...macklin's best game of the year. even in his best game...he had a couple head scratching moments and bricked freethrows. if vaughn is nothing more than an active body for about 10 minutes a game who can shoot over 25% from the line...its an improvement.
at another point in the WV game...Rivers was staring at a wide open three from the baseline. he shoots the ball...it hits the side of the backbourd and bounces back his direction. terrible.
now that we have vaughn, clark, and a healthy wright...the departures of rivers and macklin is addition by subtraction.

Can't he just make up his mind and choose G'town? Also, I hope they granted him a waiver as well.

The Dajuan point is important. I don't think we would have played Monroe-Sims very much. But Vaughn and Monroe or Sims we'll play. He doesn't have experience in the offense yet but he doesn't have to adjust to pace of play or defensive assignments all at the same time. This is pretty crazy. We probably have more flexibility than last year now with three 6'10+ guys.

Personally, I've never bought the "DaJuan is better at the SF" argument. He should have a quickness advantage over PFs that he doesn't have over SFs or third guards.
However, having DaJuan at the 3 (and not Austin) will greatly improve out rebounding. And having a non-freshman and a third guy in your true big man rotation is huge.
