A little info on Julian: He's 6'9, 235 EXCERPT FROM RIVALS His freshman campaign also included a 15-day sabbatical from basketball due to a medical condition that needed to be corrected. Following medical testing in Cleveland, Vaughn was able to return but could only contribute for short time periods down the stretch.
Prior to the medical issue Vaughn had played in all 14 of Florida State's games and averaged 4.1 points and 15.1 minutes played per game. He started seven of the Seminoles' first 14 games of the season. At the recent men's basketball banquet, Vaughn won the 'Sixth Man Award' for his contribution to the 2007-2008 team.

Wow. He's playing for Clyde's this summer (along with Freeman), so some scouting reports from those able to attend should give us an idea of what he'll be able to contribute.
This should play well with UMCP fans after the Gus Gilchrist fiasco.

Waiver Allows Transfer Julian Vaughn to Play Next Season for the Hoyas NCAA rules Vaughn need not sit out July 3, 2008 Washington DC - Georgetown University Head Men's Basketball Coach John Thompson III announced today that Julian Vaughn, a transfer student from Florida State University, has been granted a waiver by the NCAA and will not have to sit out a year before playing at Georgetown. "Julian transferred to be closer to his home for personal reasons which he wishes to keep private. This was considered by the NCAA along with his good academic standing and the lack of objection from FSU. They granted him a waver from the usual transfer rules and we're very pleased that Julian will be part of our program and have the opportunity to lend support to his family." guhoyas.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/070308aac.html

Finally we have some good news over this offseason. Even if Vaughn isn't very good, the depth and expierence he provides is huge.

Someone had to say it.

this is great news!
SirSaxa or anyone else ... what's the deal with the medical issue? it must have been resolved if he was able to continue playing last season. there's no need to disclose if its personal, but will it impact his playing time? i guess we can see for ourselves during kenner! great news!

I don't know. It wasn't disclosed. But he had to leave in mid-season, missed 3-4 games, came back and played but fewer minutes. He said the time away set him back, but he was getting his wind and rhythm back by season's end. Also, reports from YATES etc. are that he has been looking REALLY good. No one has disclosed anything publicly about his med condition, or the very unusual waiver from the NCAA -- which included "no objection" from Fl State and Coach Leonard Hamilton. So even if someone on this board does know more, I am sure they also know enough not to share personal info.

Seems premature, but just made me think about the roster situation. I haven't seen Vaughn play at all, but anyone that's seen him at Kenner or FL St., would he possibly start over Monroe or is he more likely to come off the bench or is it going to be a fall camp battle for the spot?
