What I love about the addition of Vaughn is it will hopefully allow Monroe to play more time at the PF (his natural position), and push Freeman and Summer back to their natural positions as well. Thats assuming that hes ready to contribute though.

Finally some good offseason news! While I've never seen Julian play, it seems from reading here that his game and his temperment may be much more suited for the role that Vernon would have had next year. While Vernon probably has more talent, it's clear now that he absolutely wanted to start and was going to have real trouble filling any kind of 6th Man role. Sounds like Julian will have no problem with that. Now we can have Monroe start without any contraversy, and we get some serious size and depth to help off the bench. Suddenly those ticket prices don't seem quite as much!

Great news for Julian. I spoke with him once in the SWQ. Great kid. We're fortunate, once again. He likes his Problem of God course with Prof. Sanders... a good sign for a Hoya.
I assume he still has three years of eligibility left? This wasn't a post-facto red-shirting of last season, right?

Missed 15 days of practice and two games in late December and early January of his freshman year as he underwent medical testing at the Cleveland (Ohio) Clinic...returned to the line-up on Jan. 12 against Clemson with a clean bill of health...
Named Mr. Basketball in the state of Virginia following his senior season by the Roanoke Times and World News...rated as a five-star recruit by Rivals.com...ranked as the 34th best prospect in the class of 2007 by Scout.com and recruiting analyst Dave Telep...
One of the top players in the 2007 Derby Classic All-Star game as he totaled a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds to help his team to a 140-117 victory...shot well from the field with a five-of-nine performance and a perfect two-of-two shooting from the 3-point line...Vaughn played with Duke's Nolan Smith and Michigan's Alex Legion at Oak Hill as a senior...at 6-foot-9 he has the wingspan of a player at least 7-foot-3...competed for a spot on the USA Basketball Under-18 team in 2006...earned the award as the Seminoles' Top 6th Man at the annual team honors banquet in 2008...

One wonders if JTIII will drop objections if there are similar petitions for Macklin and/or Rivers, especially with Rivers' brother committing to the school at which Macklin ended up (not to mention, Hamilton's team's biggest rival). Ah, the intrigue...

Ah, the intrigue... While Coach Hamilton's agreement was important, there has to be some extraordinary reason why the waiver should be granted over and above coach's OK. I have no idea what that reason might be in Julian's case. Can anyone recall a similar situation elsewhere?

Tyler Smith was granted a waiver last season at Tennessee due to his father having terminal cancer. I have no idea what Julian's situation is/was.

Really great news. We really needed a big who could contribute right away, and Julian may be just that.
Kudos to the people working behind the scenes in the athletic offices for making this happen.

This is awesome news...However after having seen Vaughn play in HS, I don't think he will be the starting center. But still, great news for the depth and experience of the front court.

WOW! Great news!
IMO, it will be a front-court rotation of Sims, DS, Monroe and Vaughn more than a set 3. Look to Nikita to also contribute.
Now we have MVP's of Virginia, DC and Maryland in the line-up. Did DS also win one of those awards?

The likelihood is that Freeman continues to start at the 3.
But adding Vaughan gives us the ability to "go big" at certain times in games and vs. certain opponents.
Monroe 6'10 Sims 6'11 Vaughan 6'10 Summers 6'8
DaJuan at the 3 and two of the other guys at the 4/5. You could even put Austin at the 2 and Sapp at 1 at times.
Now that would be a BIG college team.

PG/SG Sapp Wright Clark Freeman
SF Freeman Summers Nikita
C/PF Monroe Sims Vaughan Summers
Suddenly we have a LOT more depth and flexibility!

they're still gonna play the race card. What? "Race card" What the heck does race have to do with this... other than the race to be the best program in the DC area -- And I think we won that one already!
