Malik Story a 6'5" shooting guard, has been released from his letter of intent at USC. The brief story in the LA Times listed Georgetown first among the schools in which he has expressed interest. I can't imagine our having much interest here. Thoughts from the recruiting gurus?

another recruiting service has it that his coach says we are interested in looking into his transcripts, but his coach also says that Kentucky and Marquette are recruiting him the hardest at this point

His defense is very suspect according to the wires. But I'll take another scorer to replace Baby Doc ( lack of offense) on the perimeter. I don't think he will be able to compete with Austin for time, however. We still could use a guard for this year's class, he might be the best available.

I can't imagine our having much interest here. Thoughts from the recruiting gurus? Can't imagine too much interest either. If the team is going to take a guard from the 2009 class that will be at Gtown for more than two seasons then take a guy who can fill in at the point position. Sapp will be graduating. Wright can play the point positon and will run the show but he can also slide over to the two. And who knows how long he'll stay anyway. Clarke can play some time at the one position but right now is still more of a combo. Austin and even Omar and perhaps Nikita can give you token minutes at the two and some say Hollis is really a two guard as well. So the team has that position covered. What the team does not have covered enough for the upcoming seasons is the point guard spot.

Story is a good player. I'm from Southern California and watched his Artesia team beat a Taylor King-led Mater Dei team in the section finals. But, after that year, Renardo Sidney transferred out, James Harden left for Arizona St. and Story left for Oak Hill.
Then, I believe Story got into some trouble at Oak Hill and may have been suspended or kicked off the team (I don't know this for a fact, so please don't take it as one).
Bottom line: The guy can play, but I believe there has been character/academic issues in the past and it comes down to need. How much do we need him, and based on the number of shooting guards coming into our program, we probably don't need him.

A little off topic, but does this offense actually need a point guard if everyone on the court is a proficient passer?

Article released today on scout says that Story is down to two schools, us and Oregon. By the tone of the article, it seems that the interest is mutual. But the article draws it's conclusions from the coach of Malik Story so I dont know how accurate it may be or if he is overhyping our pursuit of him. In any event, he is down to two schools and a decision will be coming soon.

At this point, I really don't understand why this guy would be added.

Oregon will be a very good program for him. He will do well in coach Kent's offense.

Balla--how good is Story--and what do you think of him? I've heard he USC wasn't shedding many tears when he decided to look elsewhere and he was asked to leave Oak Hill--but outside of that--only saw him play at Artesia with James Harden--who was fantastic (now at Arizona State) and Renardo Sidney--who was great in game I watched against Taylor King and Wear Twins.

Well I was trying to be PC when I said "no thanks." ;D Honestly, I regurgitated when I heard that Gtown is seriously looking at this kid. You are correct, the USC coaches were dancing when he decommitted. The best comparison that I can come up with for him is, a POORmans Robert Vaden. I do not like Gtown being this thin going into the season, but either bite the bullet for this season or wait for a better player to pop up this summer... Strengths: Spot up shooter Weakness: Everything else
