3rd game in 3 days for the 'neers and our team is deeper than ever with Wright getting back into the rotation and earning important minutes. And Roy is "rested." Minus another superhuman effort from Alexander (which is possible), I don't see how they can hang with us for 40 minutes.

Looks like we'll have to see if Rivers can guard Alexander.

With 40 minutes against Providence for Alexander and 39 minutes for Nichols, and 39 minutes for both against Uconn today, plus our depth, athleticism and a fresh Hibbert, we should be looking good for tomorrow. No way they both have the legs to keep up with us.

Minus another superhuman effort from Alexander (which is possible), I don't see how they can hang with us for 40 minutes. This is a big key, I think.......we can now go 10 deep with no trouble at all, Roy barely played today and WVU has to be just a little fatigued coming into this next game. I don't think we NEED to have those advantages, but they are a nice thing to have on our side. A concern I have is that we let the incredible 3-point shooting go to our heads a bit and cool way off in this one. Going from 17-27 to 7-27 would not be a pretty sight. However, I have confidence in this team and in JTIII that they won't let it happen. Besides, I'm sure Roy is telling Wallace and Sapp, "This next one is mine guys" right now!! Let's "uncontroversialize" one more win for the year!

Truth be told, the only way we "stop" Alexander, if we really focused on him, is to play zone. If we play man, we probably put Pat and Dajuan on him, and he'll simply shoot mid-range jumpers over them. If he can shoot over Robinson, he can shoot over Pat and Dajuan. That said, while Alexander is becoming a great player, I don't think he's the type of player, nor West Virgnia the type of team, where we have to adapt our defense to match up. We should play D how we normally do, and simply hope Alexander misses his fair share of J's with hands in his face.
One other thing that bears mentioning about Alexander is that he rarely takes the ball all the way to the basket. He does have a nice array of perimter moves...but he simply uses them to get space for the jumper. When he learns that he is quick enough and explosive enough to get to the basket, he'll be that much tougher to deal with. But, I think that's a season away from happening.

Hold on,
when the heck did Alexander turn into Michael Beasley???
Yes he had a great game today, and a pretty good one tuesday, but lets not get carried away.
I'd say we 'stopped' him last time

Joe Alexander has some serious hops, so I wouldn't count on his legs giving out. But if he goes up for the "poster" dunk, I just see Pat putting him on his ass.
Huggs is a good coach, so WVU will be prepared and have a bone to pick with us. We need to focus and go back to Roy as the center of our O. He doesn't need to score, but it will help having his decision making and presence drawing double teams out there.

Did anyone else hear Bobby Knight refer to Huggins as a 400 lb slab of butter walking up and down the sideline?

I made a poor attempt to say exactly that....Alexander is no Beasley. He is not a singular talent with a diverse offensive game that we have really have to focus our defense on. Just play our normal defense and hope he misses jumpers. The quotation on "stop" was just to emphasize that if the team wished to exert a lot of effort in limiting his effectiveness, I would think playing zone would be a good place to start---given his mid-range game.
However, to imply that Alexander is the same player we played in Morgantown is somewhat dubious---over the last seven games, he has averaged about 27 per game. West Virginia is a little more reliant on him than they used to be.

Correct me if I'm wrong..but I'm pretty sure Alexander missed several games/days with an injury, and essentially ours was the first game back. Yes, he was in foul trouble and we took care of him, but he is a different player over the last five games (Averaging 25?) than that regular season game against us.
I think our defense will be the key, the rest will come. I think our offensive balance of discipline/opportunity has been getting better (esp vs Nova) and as long as this plays out like it should, even a somwehat tight game should go our way.

Seriously? This team had to go to overtime on Sunday with ST JOHNS. They should be no match for us.

I think Ewing checks him and I think he holds him either under 15 or under 45% from the floor. I sense real dislike for each other in those two, and I think Pat is at his best defensively when his emotions "get the best of him" so to speak. Ever notice Pat after he turns the ball over leading to a fast break the other way? It seems like more than half the time he's on the other end blocking the lay-up. I see a whole game of that otherworldly intensity from him tomorrow.

Ha! This and many other threads over there remind me of the first Chappelle show: "If you've got hate in your heart, let it out!"
