the force of the ball knocked him to floor instantly. as a result, i do not believe it is a stretch to think a blow with such force to his temple could have been fatal. if it was that minor, why did the team physicians rush to him after he was hit? additionally: "Sports-Related Head Injury July, 2006 Although sports injuries contribute to fatalities infrequently, the leading cause of death from sports-related injuries is traumatic brain injury. Sports and recreational activities contribute to about 21 percent of all traumatic brain injuries among American children and adolescents. Traumatic Brain Injury A traumatic brain injury (TBI) is defined as a blow or jolt to the head or a penetrating head injury that disrupts the normal function of the brain. TBI can result when the head suddenly and violently hits an object, or when an object pierces the skull and enters brain tissue. Symptoms of a TBI can be mild, moderate, or severe, depending on the extent of damage to the brain. Mild cases may result in a brief change in mental state or consciousness, while severe cases may result in extended periods of unconsciousness, coma, or even death. Incidence The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) tracks product-related injuries through its National Injury Information Clearinghouse. According to the CPSC, there were an estimated 319,339 sports-related head injuries treated at U.S. hospital emergency rooms in 2006. The actual incidence of head injuries is potentially much higher, as many of these injuries are treated at physician’s offices, immediate care centers, or self-treated. Included in these statistics are not only the sports/recreational activities, but the equipment and apparel used in these activities. For example, swimming-related injuries include the activity as well as diving boards, equipment, flotation devices, pools, and water slides. The following 20 sports/recreational activities represent the categories contributing to the highest number of estimated head injuries treated in U.S. hospital emergency rooms in 2006. Cycling: 65,319 Powered Recreational Vehicles (ATVs, Dune Buggies, Go-Carts, Mini bikes, Off-road): 28,585 Football: 34,658 Basketball: 25,788 www.neurosurgerytoday.org/what/patient_e/sports.asp-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Force required to cause fracture: is very variable and depends on the thickness of the hair, scalp and skull, upon which part of the skull is struck, the direction of impact and other imponderables. Skull fracture can result from merely walking into a fixed obstruction (73Newtons or 5 foot pounds), from the 4.5 kg adult head falling from a height of 1 metre onto a hard surface (510 N), the head falling from a standing position (873 N), running into a obstruction (1020 N) or a 100g golf ball or stone thrown with moderate force against the temple. www.dundee.ac.uk/forensicmedicine/notes/heading.pdfThanks, Bill Nye. Next, I'd like to bust the myth of the lights all exploding at the end of The Natural. I was in agreement w/ some of your criticisms of Roy, but to encourage any of our players to start brawling while in the NBA is kind of an absurd step to take. I don't think any of us know ANY details about the dynamics between RBB and his teammates, so it's just too wild a step for us to speculate about whether he should have "defended himself." For all we know, they apologized to him, he addressed it like a man, and they moved on. i do not need to encourage it. our former players have brawled on their own in the nba (some, on SEVERAL occasions) w/o my blessings. additionally, i know this about Ruben's situation, he was released by the blazers shortly after the incident.

Hibbs looked great. He posted up strong, called for the ball, used his drop step, made great decisions leading to easy buckets, hit the boards and made georgetown basketball pretty to watch again.

it was amazing. it's like he went home, found his missing drop step in the closet and packed it with him for his trip to chicago. we need more of that! he scored so easily off the drop step, that fat depaul dude was powerless.

[strangely satisfying rant]question: why would you not bother to make the topic of this thread something more informative than "question". Perhaps it's just my pet peeve, but when I read down page one of the board and the topics look like this I get annoyed:
- Jeff! - Roy! - question - lic nonsense - baby doc - Austin!
Would it kill you people to choose a subject that comes close to summarizing the topic you post on? Single words rarely manage to do this.
If your topic is question, but the post is regarding rating Roy's level of play, then perhaps the subject should be "Rate Roy's Play so far this year" or "Was Roy burned out by too much summer play?" [/rant]

Thats because Roy "knew" he was gonna get the ball inside...and it happen to be Austin giving the ball to Roy in rhythm...Roy always posts up strong, but there are not enough entry passes to get him in a rhythm.

“does the heat/knicks PO series with zo and lj ring a bell?” You mean the game where Zo got in a fight in game 4, keeping him from playing in game 5, which the Heat lost to lose the series to the #7 Knicks? Yeah, I remember. Why don’t you ask Zo, or JT2 or Pat Riley how great that turned out. if you dont like the title, dont read the post It's easier if there's a title that actually described what the thread was about. For example, if the title of this thread was "mrsixer advocates GU players start brawls," then people could make an educated guess as to whether or not they would read. Instead, we have to slog through 4 pages to find bits and pieces of actual posts on our All-American center.

Pretty liberal use of first person plural from somebody who: a) did not attend Georgetown b) has attended few (if any) Georgetown games c) doesn't consider Georgetown his favorite hoops team d) has few if any supporters on this board Sure, go ahead, I bet everybody else here is happy to have you as their spokesman.
