Was it just natural incompetence, or was there a valid reason Craig took a pass on Noah?

Couldn't this be said for about thirty or forty other players as well? Apparently he did hit a growth spurt late in the game but this is no excuse. Just another reason why we weren't that great for a long time. This team would have been a nit team without JTIII.

Stupid Esherick. All you got in the frontcourt in 2004 was Jeff Green and Roy Hibbert.
Thanks a lot for those losers, you stupid, moronic, idiotic, moron, idiot-head.

Why did Jim Calhoun pass on Ryan Gomes? He got Emeka Okafor and Caron Butler.
We got Jeff Green and Roy Hibbert, AND Esh recruited him when he saw something in him. Noah was a late bloomer.
Esh didn't pass on Noah. He recruited him. Noah CHOSE to go to Florida. Its funny how Esh gets the blame for everything, but people don't know what really went on behind the scenes. Esh was a lame duck coach the day he took over for JT2. But Esh's blind loyalty made him oblivious to the fact.

Seriously, I'm not for the censorship that sometimes occurs around here, but can we please ban this "edstimes" from the board forever? Not only has he hijacked a classic name from the old board, but this constant harping about Esh is tiresome and completely irrelevant to current discussions about GU hoops - and I say that as a person who nearly wept with joy the day Esherick was fired. Please, admins, rid us of this imposter "edstimes" forever.

First of all, we did recruit Noah, but we waited until later in his development to get involved. Consider checking your facts next time.
Why did we hesitate to jump at Noah? Maybe for the same reason that most major schools didn't recruit him: he was extremely skinny and it was hard to see how he'd fit in as a frontcourt player. This guy was not an all-American in HS, and there was a serious debate over whether he'd ever turn into a decent college player.
I can't imagine why a coach would be hesitant to recruit a tall, skinny project when he already had Roy Hibbert in the same class, and when the team's struggles had been primarily due to poor guard play.
Nonetheless, this is yet another example of how recruiting is by far and away the most important part of a coach's job. In 20-20 hindsight retrospect, we should have taken a risk on Noah. By the same token, taking a risk on Hibbert was brilliant. You win some recruiting battles and you lose some recruiting battles. You win a lot more often when you have capable assistants out pounding the pavement. I'm glad that we have that in place now and I see a good future for Hoya recruiting.

Was it just natural incompetence, or was there a valid reason Craig took a pass on Noah? Enough, ed. I like a good Esh joke as much as anyone (I'm probably one of the few that cracks a smile when everytime you mention Van's "I Hate Esherick and His Family" post as bringing down the regime--its so absurd its funny.) But I think the days of Esh-bashing have to be about over. The last of the players he really coached are now done. Hoyas hoops is on the way back and all the damage done by the Esherror seems to have been largely repaired. No need to pile on. Its unseemly.

I for one am glad we don't have Noah. I can't stand this kid and all his yelling, chest-pounding, etc. that he does after EVERY basket. I for one hope he declares for the draft this year not because I'm afraid of facing him but rather I'd like to see him get put in his place. Or better yet maybe Jai can take care of that next week. Don't get me wrong; I'm all for emotion, but I can't stand it when guys find it necessary to do all this self-promotion nonsense. Let your game speak for itself. If it's a big play at a critical point, sure go ahead and give a little shout out. But to yell into the stands everytime you make a basket is bush league, IMO. You gotta act like the endzone is somewhere you belong, not like its a place you go for spring break once a year. Settle it down Beavis.

Plus our basketball budget can't afford Noah's makeup bill. Worst Florida makeup since Katherine Harris.

I'm satisfied with our part man, part ravenous beast. We don't need a part man, part woman. So let's be thankful that Esh saw Noah's true potential.

Noah is a poor man's Hakim Warrick...he's having a nice little 7-8 game stretch right now. Let's not blow this out of proportion. He'll declare for the NBA at the end of the season...

Perhaps Esh got confused while watching a rerun of Angel Heart on cable and thought the big guy opted for the silver screen instead of college BB.

no need to bash on noah's intensity. he reminds me of dudley on BC... but i'd much rather have over-the-top intensity than the kind of intensity we showed in the florida game (none). i honestly feel that if a few guys on our team had noah's passion we would be in the final 4.
though the thing i dont like about him is that he bitches to the refs after almost every play.

What did Big John say to Noah after the 'Nova game?
I saw that he hugged him...wondering if there was anything more than that.

he is just like dudley...like this is a compliment? dudley is a self-important primadonna who always has a scowl on his ugly face. count me as one of those in the "glad we don't have these type players" camp.
