Just an idea for a student section shirt..
WIN OR LOOSE WE STILL BOOZE
that on the back with maybe a HOYA HOOPS or something of that nature on the front.

I like the enthusiasm and the spirit with which your suggestion is offered. One thing I think we should get away from is promoting a culture of drunkenness in the student section, and I think some decent strides have been made in those regards. The goal is to get folks drunk on GU basketball, not $7 beers.

But think of how many shirts we will sell, every student will want one. KU had the similar effect with their football program and these shirts 2 years ago when they only won 2 games. Now every KU student owns one. Take my word for it.
WIN OR LOOSE WE STILL BOOZE

I agree with Jersey completely. Not to say that people can't drink but to officially associate it with Georgetown Basketball is something I would never even consider. I consider that one of the downfalls of Hoya Blue and I have been trying to get away from the drunkeness associated with basketball.
We need to get people to become die hard fans and then if they choose to they can drink, not use alcohol as a way to promote basketball.
The day a shirt like that replaces something like our current shirt is the day I blow up the entire student section, including myself.

I think we could make it tradition and replicate it every year with a different slogan on the back. Where it says "Some have forgotten We will remind them" on the back, we should put a different quotation every year to keep it fresh, yet traditional. Maybe people could vote on a few possiblities at a Hoya Blue meeting at the beginning of the school year. The "Win or Lose" boozing thing kind of encourages apathy in regards to our success, which is not something we want to breed. And we aren't selling these to students anyway; we're giving em out free to students at games and selling them to alumni and all other fans.

The win or loose we still booze thing sounds really low class and idiotic for a student section. WE ARE GEORGETOWN and we need to expect more out of ourselves. Plus man, we aren't trying to sell these. I have nothing against drinking, but using it as an official student section motto is downright idiotic.

I also agree with Jersey, CA, and 007. It's $7 for bud light - that's insane, and also I think that the student section and Hoya Blue should come up with more constructive ways of supporting Georgetown Athletics and being a part of the Georgetown campus culture - look at the Orange Crush of Illisnois for example.

congratulations caddyshack.
i'm a junior in high school right now, and i hope about this time next year i can be saying the same thing you are right now.
i'm trying to plan a campus visit to correspond with a game, and i was wondering what the board's opinion would be of this potential choice ... if you could choose the Nova game on Sun, Feb 27 at Noon or the Providence game on Sat, March 5 at 7:30 (LAST GAME OF THE SEASON) which would you choose?
because right now, that is my dillema. and don't make your answer based soley on how good the game would be ... i would like to see the MCI Center pwith the best atmosophere possible (i would imagine thats going to be harder to find on a sunday at noon but, hey, i may be wrong)

I apologize for my earlier comment, I thought it was some sort of fundraiser, where selling shirts would be the main source of revenue. But a more traditional shirt to be given away at games is a great idea.

Yeah, you might have some trouble finding a good atmosphere because the nova game is at noon on sunday but the providence game may be even worse because I think spring break starts after the last class on March 4th, meaning that there probably wont be many students at the Providence game on the 5th since everyone will be gone.

I guess the nova game will probably have to do, because I want to see the campus while the students are there, because every other time has been in the summer.

How about this for a student section name, since you have to bus to MCI Center:
The Threedom Riders
Threedom can refer both to JTIII and all the threes the Hoyas shoot.

The Spring Break issue is the tricky one, especially since with the class sked most kids leave on Thursday or at worst Friday morning to go home, so Saturday NIGHT is a huge committment. (God, I just noticed it was Saturday night, that's a killer). I'll be in town and at MCI for that Providence game, since my break is the week after GU's. So I'll also be watching the BE tourney on TV here that week--and ignoring the other inferior conference tourney downtown.

BTW, what the hell is it with these noon start times on SUNDAYS? That's two this season, against two fairly solid opponents in Notre Dame and Villanova. I don't remember any Sunday home games last year. I mean, it's bad enough that this games start at noon, but on a SUNDAY? Do they not want ANY students to go?
I'll be there for sure, probably hungover, but I fear the rest of the student body might not be so bold. Any chance these game times will change as a result of the NHL strike? (By the way, it's great not having to sit through hockey highlights on ESPN anymore.)

The noon start times are due to the planned NHL games that are not gonna be happening. However, start times wont be changed because those games are going to be televised by ESPN Full Court and the times are locked in now.

TOWELS.......hahaha
Finally people are listening to me. It's taking years of posting on this board, but now I can say I have converted you all to the way of the towel. Now we must all drink beers with straws.
Do you think that Nat Burton would have "put them to sleep" then "exploded" if it wasn't for the towel waving in Boise? Of course not. Nat Burton wasn't that good. Well some I know might say otherwise but that's a different story. My point is that beer and towels can change the outcome of games.
I can see the future, and it will be the towels that will inspire Sead to become the Communist Blocker, with a record 40 blocks a game, and rain three balls while standing perfectly stiff.

The student section should more appropraitely have a name that plays on Hoya Saxa, i.e. something about stones, boulders, walls, etc. Or else go separate like "Inferno, Abandon all hope all ye who enter here." The dog references, pound, kennel, yard are all taken .

You're right vagrant, a name playing on Hoya Saxa would be pretty neat, but there's always the trouble of actually coming up with one that is catchy. As to the dog references, you make a good point because they are all taken by other teams. Hoya Saxa is something that only GU has and would make the name that much more original. But, like 007 and some other guys have said, "Rejection Row" would be another good name to bring back. Anybody ever thought about a name referring to Towels?? If you got everyone in the student section to bring a towel, a name that makes a reference to JT's towels would be cool. P.S. check out this article....its kinda depressing/funny story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=572&ncid=572&e=3&u=/nm/20050113/lf_nm/life_harvard_dc

That's just sad. I mean, trying to drum up school spirit is one thing, but how in the heck can you be twenty years old and need direction to have fun?
