bro - JTIII is absolutely NOT a poor recruiter. Given what he has to offer stud recruits, JTIII is actually an amazing recruiter. You can argue all you want that he has trouble retaining players, and I won't react as violently to such statements, but to say that he can't recruit is just dead wrong.
To compare the program under the control of JTIII vs. Esherick is just ludicrous. I won't even dignify that with a response. Esherick coached this team like he had a blindfold on during games. The fact that he hasn't even caught a sniff of a college-level coaching gig post-GU is evidence in and of itself. But I won't go further b/c arguing about Esherick is beyond a complete waste of time.

Bronx,
What mess are you talking about? We're 19-8, on track for a top 4 seed in the dance and two years removed from a final four, three years removed from a sweet 16. We've got a good class coming in, we've got a chance to be a great team next years. This program is a PROCESS. You're just deleted who likes to throw darts whether we win or not.
This is a good program and in good times or not, I support the program that I love. And people like you? I don't want people like you just trashing the program that I love no matter what. This team has done some not so good things. We're inconsistent, we're not deep, and I honestly think we'll struggle mightily to get out of the first weekend of the tournament.
But you know what? It's better than last year. Better than an NIT appearance. We all want more. But this team has accomplished plenty this year.

DEFENSE. DEFENSE. DEFENSE.
Notre Dame shot 71.4% in the second half, and they were not making many crazy shots out there. They were WIDE OPEN all game.
Why do we hedge on screens so much? This is baffling to me. We are just way too slow-footed to be doing that as our defensive strategy. We should be switching or doing a better job fighting through picks.
Why do we help on drives and in the post so much? Again, we are too slow to be doing this.

bronx...jt3 has brought in more mcd all-americans in his time here since pops did between '82 and '86. You might complain about a lot of things....but he put us back on the cbb map. Now I agree that we have to start doing something with these recruits if we want to stay relevant. A loss to Davidson as a 2 seed and an early exit in the NIT the next year makes the importance of what we do this year that much more critical.

1) Vee Sanford needs to get minutes. He provides great energy and I personally have not seen him make a mistake.
2) IMO Julian looks banged up. No hops right now.
3) Freeman is so good offensively his loss (he played but was so weak) is huge. That being said with no Freeman IMO Greg Monroe should have been fed on the block on every possession. Greg could have accumulated fouls on their bigs (like Samardo Samuels did a couple games ago). If you are going to lose a game then lose with the best player on the floor firing your bullets.

Paranoia,
the game was lost on the defensive end and there alone. The lack of defense and rebounding trumps anything we could've done offensively

If he is such a ace recruiter why dont we have any depth? As bad as Wright is on some days are you telling me we do not have anyone who can do better? Hank Simms? Yikes....he is a poor man's Sam Jefferson if that is possible.
Why do we only have 2 players who can play with their back to the basket? Why are we jacking up threes when we have the advantage down low. Monroe although not great can score down low......the same went for Hibbert. Get them the damn ball!!!
You speak of next year....Monroe is gone next year is not promising.
Yes JTIII did put us back on the map. I love the fella. I want him to do a great job. It does appear that he has peaked though.

The fact that the AP omitted any mention of Freeman being sick in their initial writeup is just ridiculous.

If Monroe leaves we head straight for the Coach E days yet again. JTIII is a poor recruiter that is the problem. Your mom is a poor recruiter. Mods? ?

I would like some good answers to that as well. We got burned repeatedly today by doing exactly that, getting out of position and failing to recover. The highlight of the game actually was the guy who nailed the Verizon Triple Play with nothing but net on both his FT and his 3.

When teams are missing shots or dont use the ball screens enough, we benefit, but when executed, we get burned on this all day long. Sigh. I am getting tired of basketball season. It's hard to not too. It's been a tough 2 years as a Gtown fan. That said, you have to at least be happy that we'll be tourney bound this year.

I felt good at halftime looking at the rebounding stats, having us outrebounded by 15-6. I thought coach could light a fire under the team and their second half would be much better,as we were behind by only four. So we played worse in the 2nd half. I couldn't watch it all, so I don't know if we did any better on the boards, but at least getting back on defense we were pretty bad.

Query: If you were a solid recruit would you want to risk going to GU...to be force fed the PO...to a disorganized coaching staff that can't absolutely shine even with 3 McDs...? Ready to stop name calling the few posters that believe we're on or way to being a DePaul or SF? This is a million dollar coaching staff that can't manage a D-1 college progam. Any suggestions how we turn this around? Have you seen the games where we played Defense? Did you watch the Villanova game where we scored 100+ using the PO! Also, why would players go to UNC? They might not make the NCAAs and they have like 8 McDs. Oh also we only had 2 McDs actually playing today, our star was practically dead out there. Last time I checked we weren't the worst team in the league, we still have 3 McDs, we have won games, and we have POTENTIAL. Not sure which team you are talking about with SF (USF or SH?) but both of those teams have had better years then in years past. I'm not even going to bother responding to Bronx. I just would be depressed with my own life if I was such of a pessimist.

Amazingly frustrating game to watch. JT3 has done wonders for this program over the last 5+ years, and I appreciate that he keeps pretty even-keeled throughout the course of a game, but a big piece of me thinks much of the issue in these games against supposedly "lesser" opponents rests on his shoulders.
Sure, sometimes your squad is going to have an off night, but it's like game after game in BE play - they play like garbage against teams they "should" be beating. I realize he isn't the one on the floor making lazy passes, not boxing out, etc... but this team needs to bring a consistent level of intensity regardless of the opponent, and much of that has to do with the non X's and O's aspect of coaching - motivating these guys game in-game out. I just don't see it happening, as seen against the likes of USF, Rutgers, ND, ODU, etc... this season.

i don't agree that ND was wide open all game. Great job scouting by ND. However, this team was LACKadaisical (sp?) all game. And it bit them in the butt.

just a poor effort and extremely frustrating to watch. i think i counted 3 possessions where the hoyas played good defense for the entire game. the d was completely predicated on reacting to the offense, instead of forcing the offense to make tough plays. i can live with nd making 3's. i can't live with the complete lack of boxing out and watching nd do chinups on the rim. instead of getting all mopey someone needs to get mad and make some plays.
