Just got home from the first game I have ever left early. If the team doesn't care enough to show up, I don't care enough to stay.
Just a pitiful effort. And Freeman isn't the reason. Freeman isn't the guy we rely on for rebounds and effort. To get outrebounded the way we did today is on the coach and team as a whole. They just didn't care. ND's biggest guy was 6'9". We should outrebound them by accident. Instead, we get a team that simply could give a about playing today. It was, in a word, disgraceful.
I am sick of hearing about leadership and who we need. I love JT3, but we need a coach who is going to slap this team upside the head right now. I said it after the crap effort at Rutgers and hearing we got a day off. NO. You don't get a day off after this to clear your head. That should have happened after USF. But it didn't. Now it won't happen again. You earn the right to get a day off at this point in the season. After an effort like today, you run for 2 hours. You don't touch a friggin basketball. You give the effort you didn't give today until you throw up and remember that you never want to have a practice in March like this again.
There's a reason the players change in college hoops and the coaches don't. It's time for our coach to treat these kids like the college players they are and make them learn that effort like they showed today is not a blip that you get to clear your head from, but simply unacceptable. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. Fool me three times, run til you puke.

Agree with Rockaway. I watched Austin the whole game. He had no business being out there. I am not sure what III was thinking. Do people really think it was a coincidence that we got outhuslted to loose balls and boards when our 3 was playing at like 25-30 percent? He was barely running.
That said, I said it before, ND played more desperate and honestly might have beaten us with Freeman. They looked all the part of a team playing for their tourney lives.

I think we were out-dunked by an unathletic ND team around 5-0 today. Don't have an official stat, but it was something like that. Just shows a lack of effort on our guys' part.

Well, that game was thoroughly disappointing.
Get well, Austin.

Austin didn't come into the game until the 10 minute mark or so and by then they were already kicking our butt up and down the court. If JT3 was going to play Freeman at all, I would have preferred he start him to see just what he was going to get out of him. By having him come off the bench it gave everyone false hope that things would turn around when he did. Better to know exactly what you are going to get from your star early on and go from there.

Today's game, and particularly Notre Dame's style without Gody reminded me a lot of the way we USED to play. They dictated tempo by using clock, and then getting good shots after 20-25 seconds into the play. While we tried to push the pace a bit, and get into sets quicker. This has worked for us at timesd this season, as we have shown we can play and win uptempo games. But what seems to happen is that as the offensive pace quickens the defensive intestiny wanes. When we were running halfcourt sets, and milking the 35, it forced us to really emphasize the defensive side of the ball. With our number of possessions always on the low end, there was no room for error on defense. You saw that in the way Notre Dame pressured the screens and clogged the middle, forcing loose balls in the paint and forcing the Hoyas to make plays on the perimeter. I wonder if JT3 must consider pulling the reigns a bit tighter on Wright and forcing the team to appreciate each defensive possession by returning to putting possessions at a premium. No matter if Austin was putting up 20 today we weren't winning this game. Until we realize that defensive stops ignite the offense just as much as good offense, we will not be a consistent team.

Let's be clear, the guys who were (at least we assume them to have been) full strength didn't give much in the ways of effort today. But they were at a disadvantage for most of the afternoon playing a man down. And it was senseless: we weren't in foul trouble, and Hollis had been playing pretty decently. Austin was air-balling every perimeter shot he took, and on any of his drives to the basket he was getting easily blocked. Clearly had no legs today. I'd really like to hear our staff answer some questions on why he was forced into action for so long. Just an inexcusable decision that killed any chance we had to win this game.
For anyone comparing AF's importance to us to Harangody's importance to ND: the biggest difference is Brey didn't force Harangody out there for 25 minutes on one leg. So let's not try to compare apples and oranges.

Query: If you were a solid recruit would you want to risk going to GU...to be force fed the PO...to a disorganized coaching staff that can't absolutely shine even with 3 McDs...?
Ready to stop name calling the few posters that believe we're on or way to being a DePaul or SF?
This is a million dollar coaching staff that can't manage a D-1 college progam.
Any suggestions how we turn this around?

I applaud Austin for the dedication to give it a go when he was clearly not 100%. And while I don't know exactly how he was feeling or what he told the coaching staff as far as how he was feeling, it was frustrating to see him out there at points in the 2nd half when it was clear he didn't really seem to have his legs under him. Would've seemed the ideal opportunity to get some of the lesser used bench (Vee & Henry) some trial by fire for some of Freeman's 2nd half minutes, when it was clear the lineup with Austin was not as effective as they've shown they can be. Vee's 4 minutes today (as they usually seem to do) seemed to show great promise. Hope Austin is feeling better and more like himself on Monday.

No, we were getting our asses handed to us when III sent Freeman to the scorer's table. Then, b/c play didn't stop for a while, we played another 2 or 3 minutes. And I think we were down 4 or 5 when Freeman actually stepped on the floor. But I felt like we had the momentum at that point. Regardless, if Freeman wasn't well enough to start, he sure as wasn't well enough to come in halfway through the first half.

If Monroe leaves we head straight for the Coach E days yet again. JTIII is a poor recruiter that is the problem.

Bronx,
Just leave the board and don't come back. You're the most miserable deleted that I've ever seen on this board. You're nowhere close to a Hoya fan and I'm sick of your drivel game, after game, after game.
And I'll say that straight to your face dude. Test me.

I'm with the others bronx. I'm sure you are a Hoya fan, but you seem to take a great deal of joy in saying "I told you so." More so than the joy you seem to get when we actually win. I think that's what annoys people. Whenever we lose, you appear to really like twisting the knife with your comments about how we shouldn't expect to be that good, we have bad coaches, coach can't recruit, the players don't want it, the player's aren't that good, etc. etc. It's the kind of stuff I'd expect from a rival team's fan, coming on here just to antagonize people after a loss.
