Nice to know our second team would dominate the Big Sky Josh Smith really makes me want to tear my hair out. He could be dominating this game. Maybe this half.. or maybe he's Wally Pipp to Big Bradley's Joe D. That would be Wally Pipp to Bradley's Lou Gehrig

Great, gutty win by Butler. Texas must have blocked 12 shots.
Let's go Xavier.

Dunham just drew a foul with the leg kick motion on a 3. At this point I won't complain about it until next year. It was egregious. The foul or the leg kick?

OK. This may be reaching. But playing in an NBA arena might give us a slight edge as well. We are used to it. EWU not so much. Until Gene Hackman takes the EWU team on to the court and measures it out for them prior to the game. Then Jimmy Chitwood hits a last second shot to beat us. We're doomed. Hey, we have already played two games in the arena where Jimmy hit the game winner, and we have won both games.

Haven't seen it in this thread: does EWU play a lot of zone defense? 2-3? 1-3-1? Pressure? Pomeroy has an algorithm called Defensive Fingerprint that it uses to identify the style of defense being played by teams based on certain defensive relationships. For the Hoyas the identification is "Mostly Man.' For Eastern Washington the identification is "Matador."

That surprises me. I honestly would think Utah is the trendiest upset pick in the tourney. It's tough. Stephen F Austin is good, but so is Utah. I think they are both underseeded. Makes the Sweet Sixteen hard for us if we make it past EW either way. Utah feels like they should have been a 4 or so and I was surprised that we were not a 5 or a 6. At the same time, I think most of the board would have been fine with having to beat Utah to make the second weekend which is where we would have been with different seeding.

2005: Missed tourney 2006: 7 seed 2007: 2 seed 2008: 2 seed 2009: Missed tourney 2010: 3 seed 2011: 6 seed 2012: 3 seed 2013: 2 seed 2014: Missed tourney 2015: 4 seed This is an extraordinary sustained run of being an elite program. It is jaw-dropping how quickly we got here given the depths of the Esherick era. You don't have this kind of year-in-year-out top 30 level success under an average much less poor coach. Anyone who wants to weigh the results of 5 (or even 6 games) over these decade-long results is an idiot. Thank god they aren't in charge of the program. I get that emotionally and in terms of media perception the tournament results are overwhelming. But grow up. There is no rational argument for this thread even existing. That remains true with a loss in the single game being played on Thursday. The tournament runs have come and will again. But they are largely a crapshoot. Don't forget three regular season Big East Titles, 1 BET title and two other BET finals appearances, all accomplished in the best/deepest conference in the modern era. All of the above. Plus, a program whose adherence to the rules and recruitment of fine young men is consistent with the aspirations of the University.

Thanks committee send us out west as a 4 to play a team 300 miles from their campus then stick us with a 10 PM start time against a team that likes to run. Historically, the West Coast has treated us very well in the tournament

I like how extremely under the radar we are, for once. We have a particularly boring grouping which I think is helping, coupled with Duke being in our part of the bracket and we are COMPLETELY under the radar. No one will even blink if we lose to Eastern Washington. No one on that Georgetown team should be feeling anything close to pressure. This is not true.... ESPN's Bracketology show just focused on the Hoyas struggles going back to 2008 with the various seeds 2-6 that were squandered away throughout the past years. But, unlike the rest of the country, Bilas picked us to win our first round game.

I can understand the nerves but how can you not be excited about being in the NCAAs? And it's not like we're limping into the tournament, people keep underselling Xavier around here, they are a quality team. We have the parts and a solid enough seed to go far in the NCAAs let's see if we can put together a run. I realize I am more negative than most about this tournament and can understand why others would be excited about it as I too us to consider this my favorite time of year. But you really don't understand why a tournament that has ended with complete humiliation and/or devastation 4 of the last 5 times we were in it wouldn't fill people with excitement? The stupid CBS music still makes me nauseous even in the regular season. Add the fact that UConn won it last year and them and and Nova made it to the final four the other year we missed and I completely hate this tournament, it brings me nothing but pain even when Georgetown isn't in it. If the season ended for everyone after conference tournaments I would be a much happier college basketball fan. Our results and the results of my most hated team over the last few years have ruined the tournament so completely for me that I do not think even a miraculous run by the Hoyas could ever change my opinion of it. It's a garbage tournament that exists solely to cause me misery. Wow. And I thought I was damaged.

Among the other reasons for feeling bad about Friday's game is that the Garden would have been insane with a Hoya/Nova final.
There were at least 15,000 fans last night and maybe 500 were from Xavier. It would have been a sellout if we were playing.

At the risk of inciting a riot, I think Hayes will be able to provide 5-10 a game as needed next year, assuming he puts in the work this summer. Scarily, I said exactly the same thing yesterday. I may have not mentioned the riot.
