That night in 1985 was one of the worst days of my life. That said, I am happy for Nova and very happy for our league.

You understand if we win tomorrow the 15-17 Hoyas will be the talk of the college basketball world. If we were to win today, it would be the 16-17 Hoyas who would be the talk of college basketball

I would note that Jack is a huge fan of the basketball program and the coach and therefore should be impervious to any criticism. Does this fit the nature of the thread Dan?

Mid-eighties or so and I get into a verbal confrontation with a Syracuse fan who had apparently consumed even more beer than I had. The conversation escalates - he took exception to my use of multi-syllabic words - and he lunges toward me in a threatening manner. Before I can respond my friend, much smaller in stature than I but even then a dedicated weight lifter - comes over a couple rows of seats and locks up my assailant.
My friend just retired and now spends all his time golfing, watching movies and (thankfully still) lifting. We will be sitting together for something like the thirty fifth time at the BET. Hopefully he still has my back.

I can't remember being more pessimistic about a game as this one. With Bradley's loss I don't feel that we have enough fouls to give in the paint.
I hope I am wrong.

Check my previous post regarding Jeff Green, I have been begging for Jeff Green to be traded to the Clippers. I've said on this board plenty of times that this is the perfect scenario for both teams and Jeff Green needed to play in an uptempo system with a point guard like Chris Paul. Green is Lamborghini or Porshe and the Grizzlies were a school zone. It just never made sense. I was already a Clippers fan to begin. I watch more college basketball then I do NBA but when I do watch NBA the Clippers is the team I enjoy watching the most and now with JG on their roster....HERE WE GOOOO! From what I have read, the trade particulars are Jeff Green for Lance Stephenson and a 2019 protected 1st Round Pick. Memphis absolutely wanted the 1st round pick and Memphis has a team option on Stepenson for next year so they could let him go into free agency after this season. Have to believe that Green told them he wasn't resigning in the offseason and Marc Gasol's injury is worse then reported for them to pull the plug on the season and get the best deal they could for Green. Also with Green being a free agent, he could somewhat control where he wanted to go by having David Falk work behind the scenes telling teams that Green wasn't going to sign long term with them and that they would essentially get a rental player thus minimizing how much teams would give up to get Green leaving Memphis with very few teams to work with. I would imagine and this is speculation that Jeff Green and Falk's list was the Clippers and possibly the Wizards with his preference being the Clippers. I can't think of any other teams he would consider. The Clippers had a gaping hole at the SF position and will be able to play the PF when they play small ball. Green has played a season under Coach Rivers and had his best playoff series averaging about 20 points a game during that his first healthy full season with the Celtics. Green is running out of excuses. Here is his chance to be the player he has always been capable of. NO MORE EXCUSES!!! Great post. For the record, I was typing my post with my No Excuses comment before I saw yours.

Time for us to become Clippers fans...Jeff Green just got traded there. Can't believe Memphis gave him up for Lance Stephenson/ This is great for Jeff. With OKC, Jeff was mostly playing out of position, as he really does not rebound well enough to be a 4 and the 3 was taken by a guy named Durant. And even though OKC was a running team, Russell Westbrook absolutely refused to pass Jeff the ball. The best he has ever played was when he was playing for Doc Rivers as a 3 in Boston. Even though the Celtics were not really a running team, he had a point guard in Rondo who could get him the ball in space. Once Doc left (and Pierce and Garnett) Jeff was asked to be the #1 scoring option, and he really is not that player. His three point shot distribution changed from the corners - where he is a good shooter - to the elbows extended where he struggled. In Memphis, while he has had a recent resurgence, the middle has generally been very crowded which takes away from his best strength which is to drive against overmatched smaller 3s. He will love playing with the Clippers. They run more than any team he has played with and Chris Paul is about the best guard in basketball at finding players on the break. The other 3's are Wes Johnson and Paul Pierce (and formerly Lance Stephenson) so there will be a lot of playing time available. No excuses any more.

I think Gene Smith belongs on this list for his outstanding D. There is a story, aprocryphal or not (or my memory fades me), that coming out of halftime in the 1984 Kentucky semi game, with the Hoyas down, and Gene winked to indicated that they would handle the Wildcats the second half, and handle them they did. The story is not apocryphal. In the second half, while we were holding Kentucky scoreless for 11 minutes, he winked to the CBS announcers, after he had knocked the ball out of bounds off of Dicky Beal's knee.

Perry McDonald. Toughest Hoya ever. Former Golden Gloves champ. Effectively played center for the Reggie and the Miracles team that beat Syracuse three times. He completely dominated 6 foot 11 Ronny Seikaly. Oh by the way, he was 6 feet 4 inches.
And yes, I would also put Eric Smith on the short list.

This is without even getting into the actual choice between watching on TV with a 30 rack that cost you as much as two beers at the Verizon Center that getting to will tack on an additional 90 minutes to the two hours you're spending watching the game. Personally, I would be looking for a rack that was a lot bigger than 30.

Unfortunately for DSR, the team's success over his 4 years was not particularly strong. No BET crown. No Sweet 16 appearances. And we may be headed to the NIT in his senior year. I love his numbers and consistency over 4 years, but I think he necessarily falls below some of the great Hoya guards who were able to post impressive statistical numbers along with team success. As far as guards go, limited to the modern era, I put Derrick Jackson, Duren, Sleepy, Michael Jackson, Wingate, Smitty, and AI comfortably ahead of DSR. I think DSR, Victor Page, Mark Tillmon, Wallace, Freeman, and Wright comprise a second grouping of Hoya guard greats. I agree with your categorization of Hoya guards.

One minor correction, DSR is currently 13th on the assist list. The HoyaSaxa.com history site has two lists of career assist leaders and the one that you referenced omits Jim Brown's 408 career assists. I used the record book on guhoyas.com, not HoyaSaxa. OK, then the list you used from guhoyas.com has both Kevin Braswell and Joey Brown listed as #1. Consequently, Bobby Winston is listed as 11 not 12. DSR is currently 13th. He will soon be in the top 10 in assists. He is among my favorite Hoyas. On a side note, does the athletic department ever proof anything?

Recent telecasts have done a pretty good job of highlighting where DSR stands on the all-time Hoyas scoring list. Tonight, he should pass David Wingate for #6 all-time in points scored. Barring injury, DSR should pass Othella Harrington in a few games and end up #5 on the total points list - and second among guards, behind #1 overall Sleepy Floyd. Just a big-time scorer during 4 years on the Hilltop. Although he hasn't gotten as much hype on these fronts, DSR is also climbing the ladder in all-time assists and steals in a Hoyas uniform. With 344 assists, including a career high 108 so far in 2015-2016, DSR is currently #12 overall in Hoyas history. Barring injury, he should pass Bobby Winston and Sleepy Floyd to be #10 within the next 2-3 games. Assuming that happens, DSR will likely go down as the only player in Hoyas history to be a top 5 scorer and top 10 assists man. In steals, DSR has 157 in his career, placing him 17th on the Hoyas all-time list. He's got a decent shot to end his career in the top 15 on that list as well. We all know this hasn't been the season we wanted, but this kid has played his heart out for the Hoyas over 4 years. Statistically, DSR's one of the top 5 guards in Hoyas history. Let's send him out with a bang and fans, let's do our best to appreciate him over these next few weeks. One minor correction, DSR is currently 13th on the assist list. The HoyaSaxa.com history site has two lists of career assist leaders and the one that you referenced omits Jim Brown's 408 career assists.

Jeff with a Grizzlies leading 16 tonight as the Grizzly beat the Knicks. This is the fifth straight game that he has led the team in scoring off of the bench. The last player to have led for four games in a row off the bench was Dan Majerle 20 years ago. It will be interesting to see how far back the folks at Elias have to go to find five in a row.

I would also like to add a pick and pop with DSR and Jesse to the arsenal. We are trying the pick and roll with DSR and the centers much more than we have since JT III has been coaching. It has led to some truly open looks with Jesse, but Bradley is simply not quick enough to make it work. The pick and pop would take advantage of Jesse's great shooting, and open up the lane further for the pick and roll.

From ESPN:
GETTING THE GREEN LIGHT OFF THE BENCH Jeff Green has led the Grizzlies in scoring in four consecutive games as a reserve, with 24 points in their 110-95 win over the Pelicans on Monday night. According to Elias Sports Bureau, that was last done in the NBA in January 1995 by the Suns' "Thunder Dan" Majerle.

Jeff leads the Grizzlies with 24 points on only 13 shots as the Griz beat New Orleans by 15.
