Now that it appears that Jeff is leaving for the NBA, Ewing and Macklin have to step up to fill part of the void that Jeff will be leaving. Ewing as a role player, especially towards the end of the season, showed flashes of brilliance. Macklin was the stud recruit coming in, but he looked timid and unfamiliar with the offense for much of what I saw last season. Hopefully an increase in playing time will fix these issues. Does anyone have additional thoughts on this?

Macklin better start making the strides in his game we grew accustomed to seeing with Roy from year to year. He is going to have to become a serious, game-in/game-out contributor for this team to have a shot at the title.

I think Jeff leaving opens up the possibility that Austin Freeman will work his way into a smaller starting lineup.

I think the new starting Lineup looks like:
C Roy PF Ewing Jr. SF Summers SG Sapp PG Wallace
Not too much change, because it seems like you have to keep the starting backcourt and summers after their performances last year and in the tournament, however I think freeman may get like 10-15 of sapp's minutes at the 2, and 5-10 minutes of summers' time at the 3, and then Chris Wright will spell Wallace.

I think Macklin will be great this year. The tools are there. I like Ewing more off the bench.

I'll also go out on a limb and say he'll be "very very good" this year.
The primary reason Vernon didn't play more last year was that simply put, we were so ridiculously stacked up front with talented AND experienced junior big men that the guy who was "only" talented had to sit.
Freshman Vernon couldn't find minutes amongst two lottery picks and a transfer who already was a sometimes starter at a Big Ten school. To this I say "big deal."
I don't think anyone is crying for us when even our team's question marks are exclamation points.

Vernon is the player I am most looking forward to seeing the development of next season. If he can make even close to the improvement that many of our other guys have made between that FR and SOPH year, we are in for a fun ride this year!!

No one can say they're happy Jeff is leaving because that's insane. But from a different perspective: If he stays, we have SUCH high expectations. It looks like we should easily stroll into the Final Four. With him out, I really look forward to seeing Macklin, Ewing, and Dajuan (my fav Hoya) sneak up on people.
Roy seemed pretty confident in Dajuan and Ewing. Wallace will begin getting the attention he deserves, and Sapp will put himself in position to take over those veteran guard reins when Jon leaves.

The days of sneaking up on people are long OVER--it's time to man up and not be scared--because Hoyas are going to get everyone's best--you don't accomplish what they did and "sneak up" on people--especially in the Big East. I for one and happy as hell that those days are over--it's time to keep pushing forward and bring this program to even higher level and that is possible.

I think those days were over on day 1 of LAST season, so this coming year should just be more of the same. Vernon will rip the rim off on a dunk during our home opening BE game. He will then bend it in half and toss it through the Jumbotron at the MCI center.

What I meant by "sneaking up" is not that the TEAM will surprise anyone. Sure, everyone knows we'll have one of the top teams in the country going into the season. But individually, Green was a focal point last year. Defenses expected the Big East Player of the Year playing. Roy is back, and he will get the same due attention that he did last season. But you can't possibly believe that starting this season, people will look at Vernon or Dajuan the way they would have looked at Jeff. I hope that by 5-10 games into the season, they've established that same level of play, but you can't deny a difference in expectations: us w/ Jeff and us w/out. I'm sure our preseason ranking would differ.
