Hope this is not clutter. There are so many threads I'm not sure if this has been posted or not.
For the five NCAA games, Jon Wallace had 67 points (13.4 average), was 14 of 25 in three-pointers (56%), had 16 assists (3.2 per game) and 4 turnovers (0.8 per game). All of these are from using my old eyes and ancient math.
Not bad for a guard who was considered to be one of the weak links in the Hoyas team but who is, in fact, an outstanding college basketball player and person.

Great point, ed. Wallace showed all the doubters that he is a PG capable of playing with the best in college basketball. He showed me at the end of the game that he can shoot the same percentage when it isn't within the offense - this year he also developed some moves that are really going to help him - the floater and the step back 3 come to mind.

Great stats, I've been wondering for a while about wallace's chances at the next level. I think in time he could make an nba squad as a steve kerr type player, thoughts?

Don't know about the NBA. As one person mentioned on another message board NBA role players like Steve Kerr were dominant players in college. Wallace isn't exactly dominant. But he is getting better and better. And now he has enough of a national rep to be in serious contention for All Big East status next season.

Not NBA - but he can play in Europe if he doesn't want to go to law school immediately - I could see him going the Georgetown Law/graduate assistant route and foregoing playing in Europe.

If I remember correctly, Kerr was closer to 6'4". JWall will always have a hard time getting any opportunities in the league, unless he can find 3 more inches.

I have said throughout the season that the Hoyas could not be where they are without Jon Wallace, but having said that inspite of his great talents there are some limitations. These limitations are magnified on a Final Four stage. As the point guard of a national contender you must be able to create offensive advantages for either yourself or your teammates when the other team has taken your main options away. The Hoyas operated this year with a two headed point guard mentallity(Sapp and Wallace) Wallace has the accurate jump shot to keep defenses honest against Jeff and Roy, but lacks the speed and handle to break down a defender and get to the hoop to either score or pass for an assist. Also lacks the speed to stay with a quick penetrating guard. Sapp has the handle and speed to get to the hoop, but lacks the reliable jump shot that would put fear in a defense to leave him wide open for a jump shot. If Chris Wright is as advertized, then he may not start during the year ,but if the Hoyas get back to this Final Four stage next year, like Conley for Ohio State, he will be at the point for most of the game.

These limitations are magnified on a Final Four stage. . To even suggest that Jon Wallace's "limitations" being "magnified on a Final Four stage" played any part in Georgetown's loss is ridiculous. With what Georgetown wants to accomplish offensively, I would not trade Wallace for any other guard on the floor last night in Atlanta. Agreed. Wallace is so limited that we lost by 7 points in the Final Four to the #1 team in the nation. Oh and by the way, he scored 19 points to lead all guards in scoring. Seriously, this backcourt is enahnced by the depth coming in, not replaced. If we can keep even half of Green/Hibbert we could have a better chance next year than this year.

I would move him to shooting guard full-time. Set that beautiful diagonal three all game long. Teams would have to focus on him.
I want to see him shoot more. His average is awesome, but he doesn't take that many shots. A 47% shooter should be putting up at least 6 threes a game.

I agree that jwall should be moved to shooting guard...that shot is too pretty to not bust it out more. Jessie is better off the dribble too so a drive and kick to jwall would seem to be a solid option next yr when jessie is more comfortable at pg

Steve Kerr was an elite college basketball player. He also had a lightning fast release to his shot, which helped him last in the NBA.
That being said, Wallace could make it --- but it would be a long shot.

JWall's shot is awesome but I think is ball-handling skills are being taken for granted. Over the years hes developed a solid handle with a few nice drives every game. Plus, a few times in the tournament he has shown a sick stepback jumper reminiscent of Ashanti.

not sure i recall many ashanti-style stepbacks...but you're right about his handle. earlier in the year he was also driving more in the lane and tossing up that sweet floater. he also is a great cutter to the basket from the backcourt (as is jessie). ofcourse jeff makes it look like a thing of beauty with his perfect feeds

I love Wallace, and agree that he seems like perfect coach material. I don't really care about the NBA much - I strongly prefer college hoops - but he has been the foundation of our enormously successful team this year. Not the star - we know who those guys are - but the incredibly reliable underpinning. Thank you, Jon, for a great season - we're looking forward to the next one!

He would make an outstanding coach or an attorney. While pro ball may be possible, I think he'll take the high road to litigation.

J-wall has been my favorite player since he started freshman year. He is a true "rudy" underdog story. No respect, yet he has done amazing thing with true will power and hardwork. Great player. And smart enough to be a great coach.

Wallace is awesome and he's been my favorite player for the last two years since I got here but after Conley Jr., OSU's MVP last night in my opinion, exposed our guards with his quickness, I am starting to wonder what will happen next season.
I mean, Wallace is really really good at what he does and plays really smart, and that's why he's my favorite player, but I just can't shake this feeling that Chris Wright will just bring better tools to the table in terms of speed and ability to create his own shot.
I don't know. Does anybody else think this could happen?
