Has anyone noticed the very hateful and resentful tone towards JT II and JT III?
A lot of it stems from the teams in the 80's, but it's amazing how uninformed people are.
Do people honestly believe that John Thompson's teams were all black because he didn't like white people?
Why do people expect a team from this area to be anything but mostly black? The knowledge of the demographic of this area should be enough to kill that argument.
I haven't had to argue this in almost 20 years so it just got a little under my skin.
I think I conducted myself in the proper manner...I didn't call anyone YT this time.

I can't believe people still say crap like this. If for no other reason, you'd think this would have gone away because so many of the top team are predominantly black. Kansas, Kentucky, UConn, take your pick. I didn't notice any white starters for Ohio St.

Don't bother, let the haters hate all they want. Then when they are done, we'll beat them to the ground. Fear Is Back!

I particularly like these lines:
"I do recall J.T. II vehemently defending his recruitment of Allen Iverson after he was involved in the vicious mob beating of an innocent white kid at a bowling alley."
"My dad played basketball at Siena College, and I'm pretty close with one of his playing buddies from back then. He always felt that JT II was racist. He told me this one story about how he was at a Georgetown game, and they were up big, and JT II put in the last guy on the bench, the only white guy in the game, for the last ten seconds. Not only did he only put him in for 10 seconds, but he said that his jersey was the only one that didn't have the players name on the back."
I also enjoy how about 50% of the posts start, "I'm not racist, but..."

its a complete joke.
Coach Thompson was not racist.
But, again, are lacrosse coaches racist for sporting mostly white teams? No.
When you are dominant at your profession and build a lasting legacy because of it as G-town had done in the 80's, folks will find anything to pick at.

Somebody should go to that board and bring up Brendan Gaughan. That guy went on to drive in the Craftsman Truck Series. Does it get any whiter than that?
All jokes aside, it's sad that people still have that percerption. When I went to a local bar to watch the UNC game, a guy sitting next to me brought this up. Basically asking me, with all the glaring smugness of a racist, how I could root for Georgetown when I'm white. I thought of all the counterpoints I could make, trying to pick just the right one. Finally, I looked over at him and found the right words.
"Go to Hell"
He paid his tab and left.

Coach is a Republican, a country music fan, a disciplinarian, and ALWAYS stands up for the disadvantaged among the urban youth. He wanted to give them a chance to make it, in ball or not. These people need to chill on the racism. Seriously. Did they forget that Coach foisted Esh on us immediately afterwards?

Whenever people call JT jr a racist, I always reply with David Falk, Craig Esherick and Mary Fenlan (sp?).
JT jr openly acknowledged that he was trying to help out disadvantaged urban kids. You can disagree with that principle if you like, but I see that different than racism.
Anyway, let's put this aside and move on to the little game we have on Saturday.

JTIII recruits the best players he can find, just like his dad did. The majority of those happen to be black, and the vast majority of those who decide to come happen to be black. If there's any racism in the process it comes in the second stage - which of the players he recruits decide to come. Some (not all) black players may be more comfortable under a black coach, while some white players may feel more comfortable under a white coach. When the coach is a polarizing figure like JTII was, those tendencies may increase. Back in the day I'm sure there were a lot of black kids who dreamed of playing for Coach Thompson, but I can't imagine there were too many white kids with the same dream. Does that make JTII racist? Of course not. It's just the product of being an icon in the black community while being villianized by parts of the white community.
I will say this: If the (mostly white) Georgetown alumni/donor base ever suspected that one of our coaches was not recruiting players who would help the program just because that player happened to be white, that coach would be fired within days.

Someone should just link the Time article, any articles on JTIII's relationship with Princeton, Red Auerbach, Esherick, etc. Then remain silent. Idiots like this deserve no response.

The CBS Message boards are full of ignorant posts that are full of racist comments regardless of the season or topic. I stopped looking at the posts on those boards a couple of years back, because it just reminded me of how ignorant some people still are. The hate directed at G'town/JTII & JTIII is nothing but pure jealousy at this point.

Why isn't more made about Coach K being prejudiced against real men? He hasn't recruited one in 20 years.
