Bilas on Sportscenter: "Georgetown does not have much to be worried about." Basically said SU played its best game of the year at home and limited GU to one shot a trip - "Georgetown still a solid 2 seed with a chance to win the BE".

Give it a rest. The bottom line is that thia team played poorly. It wasn't any particular player, it was simply a bad performance. The Hoyas lack of depth really showed tonite. That Pitt game took a lot out of the team. It was a very physically and emotionally draining game. Then in 48 hours the team had to travel from snowy DC to Syracuse. Leaving the DC area was misserable on Sunday, so we have no way of knowing what time they actually got to Syracuse. Additionally, shooting in the Dome is very tough. Basically, this game was lost before the Hoyas took the court. Some of you who have had a bone to pick with JT want to point to poise. Poise had nothing to do with it. It was obvious that the team was fatigued. They bounced passes off each other heads-- they played like the bad news bears tonite. JT getting that tech was an attempt to fire his team up. If you've followed the man since he's been here, you'd know that he is very calculating. As such, he's not going to get a tech unless he saw a benefit in it. Had Bobby Knight or Roy Wiliams received that tech, some of you would be the first to praise them for trying to fire up the team. The bottom line is that the Hoyas were due for a poor game. IT HAPPENNED, MOVE ON! Welcome back to one of the board's original posters. --AdminI watched the damn game--Jeff Green lost his poise and disappeared after he and Devendork got into it--if you would like to see this debacle again--I'd be glad to get something out to you off my TIVO of the game--he went AWOL and lost his poise. III was as jittery as I've seen him due to being excited and really seems like Cuse is only team he really gets that way about for same reason many of us hate them. Team played tight and couldn't overcome it--it happens but to say it didn't happen and that a snowstorm caused the poor play--come on Omega-that is manure. Best thing about tonight is that it's over--but by many on this site's logic--there should be no repeat of tonight due to having an entire week to prepare for UConn, correct? There are 10 possible games left for the Hoyas and they need to approach it as 1 Tournament game at a time starting with UConn--now is the time to play your BEST BASKETBALL and whatever happens, make teams beat you -don't play down to a level that makes it easy for them. We all have faith in the team and support but I refuse to hear excuses about a loss to friggin Syracuse on February 26th with Big East Title at stake. If you can't find your game for that or keep your intensity and control your emotions/channel it through your play--then it's on you--not the weather, not the quick turnaround, and certainly not on some silly logic you can't win more then 11 games in a row. You need to win 3 in a row to win a Conference Title and you need 6 in a row to win National Title--it's NEVER easy--but it's never going to be doable if you allow excuses for poor play/lost focus by your best player to creep in--it was a crap game from Jeff and majority of team--it's over--but don't act like it didn't happen--if you do, you'll be wondering why we're home watching the BET and NCAA's after 2 games total. I can't get over the fact that some people apparently feel blindsided by this! We've spotted everybody large leads for our last four games! We haven't rebounded well defensively and we've faced some significant foul trouble. Until tonight, we'd managed to dodge all of these bullets, sometimes just by a hair (against Nova and Pitt). It was going to catch up with us and tonight it did. Hopefully this is the only time it will happen, but who knows. There's an old adage from football that applies here: Its never as good as you think or never as bad as you think once you look at the tapes.

some of these posts are truly unbelievable, even for the hoyatalk board. We won 11 games in a row. We lost one regular season game to our biggest rival, which definitely sucks, but it's one game. Count me among the "idiots" who still thinks it might not be a bad thing that we laid our one egg since early January BEFORE the single-elimination season starts. We will destroy them in the BET, and we all know this. I hope people rediscover reason tomorrow.
Seriously.

I did not read any of the posts before this one except the previous one, so I have not been influenced by them. Having said that, I WILL NOT WATCH THE HOYAS LIVE ON TV AGAIN. First of all, I was supposed to see the game with the Bay Area Hoyas, but my wife and I compromised, and I lost, so I did not even see the game until there was about 11 minutes left. It was a 47-46 game with the ex-cuse up, and then with me watching, I think over the next 9 minutes the Hoyas may have scored one basket. There was no life in them, they weren't getting set on their shots, they were playing very sloppy. Since this was the first game I have seen of them all year (Pitt awaits me on the VCR at home), I was definitely not impressed, and thought what is to be excited about this team. ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) There must have been some reason that they looked so awful, and I can only come up with that I am the big JINX. ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png) So I will tape their games that I could see live, i.e., on national (non-cable) TV and watch them later. It is better for my heart too.

Is it just me or do almost all of your post-game posts begin "I was not able to watch the game tonight ..."!! ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) ?

Just returned from the game. Sat 5 rows from the court in the SU Coaches section. Was hoping to get more than what we did. First comment was that the dome was rocking. I've been to many SU/GU Games there over the years and this was the loudest. We went into one of the toughest places to play against a team on senior night who had to win this game. SU was full of emotion and we were intimidated. I was intimidated, I don't know how our young players could of felt. On top of that they were hitting crazy shots in that second half. It basically came down to their emotion. I don't know what they showed of Deivendork on TV but he didn't stop talking to the crowd the entire last 5 minutes of play. He kept saying "F*** Ya" the whole time. I'm sure parents in the crowd were excited about that. I think that he makes SU worse by playing. When ever they seemed to get things going early without him involved, he would try to take the game over and screw it up. If I were anyone on that team, I would tell him to shut his mouth and just play. i'm not worried about this at all. I never want to lose a game but I have faith in III and the guys to get in the right direction. I think were O.K. with 11 wins in our last 12, shouldn't everyone?

that kid is such a little white trash punk...i mean could you find two worse representatives for your school in him and mcnamara? they are like carbon copies of human garbage.
I cannot emphasize enough the fact that Roy needs to follow Keyshawn Johnson's lead and write a book to his teammates called, "Give Me The Damn Ball!!!"
Wallace and Sapp need to take a class on how to take care of the rock - it is alarming how nonchalant they are in their passes/ballhandling - a really big concern. From now until April 3, i want them channeling Omar Epps in the Program - they have to carry the rock around campus and if they get it knocked away from them they have to kiss DeGioia on the lips.

RE the Washington Post Article
"Syracuse senior forward Demetrius Nichols, the Big East's leading scorer and one of Green's biggest challengers for conference player of the year, had a game-high 22 points and came up especially big as the Orange took control of the game. Nichols -- who was serenaded by chants of "MVP" by the student section, the same cheer that Green received on Saturday at Verizon Center -- was 3 for 4 from beyond the arc in the second half, and made tough, contested shots."
I may have turned temporarily deaf, but I was at the whole game on Saturday, front row, heard the cheers...never once did I hear anyone chant MVP during that game. Maybe the J-E-F-F JEFF! JEFF! JEFF! or the "One More Year" chears sounded like MVP...who knows

Whew, what a thread.
Umm, yea, MAN, I do not like Syracuse Men's basketball team. I hate that we played poorly tonight, of all nights. Ah well. Seems the last two times we played 'em, they wanted it more, matter of fact, needed it more, than us, and whupped us. Hurts.
Grand scheme? This game meant, well, absolutely nothing. If I'm an opposing coach, say, in the NCAA Tournament, well, I'd watch this game only after absorbing the tape from the 'Nova and Pitt games. Unless of course you're sure we won't hit the broad side of the barn all night.
I didn't enjoy this game, but. Eleven wins in a row in conference? What, we can't be beat? As much as I love this team, I'm not confusing them with the '86 Celts, and was hoping we'd lay an egg before one and done. I'm now dining on that egg, poached, on a toasted muffin with crispy (canadian) bacon and some hollandaise...
This was still very much Georgetown February

The wheels came off. The steak is over. They screwed the pooch. Exhale. Now take a deep breath. Realize that even the water boy was off tonight. Know that they will take this loss harder than any of us fans. Remember that they are all just college kids achieving great things under tremendous pressure. They will be back for UCONN and ready to play. Have faith. Trust in Coach Thompson. Great things await. Go Hoyas!

Thank God for the BE tourney. This team does not want to go to the big dance with doubts in players mind. On the other hand, this team has taken care of busines this year, so a loss here and in the BE tourney do not mean much--I don't see less than a 3 seed, regardless of how things pan out.

"Moxie" = ? Is that why Boeheim had to go out and defend him when GMac would get picked apart in the press? (Syracuse papers included). i think a school newspaper had anti-GMac article (which is about as rare as it gets for college athletes). people with "moxie" somehow avoid that kind of stuff. he is so lucky that he nailed a couple threes in that tournament as time ran out that were seared into people's minds or else his career would have officially been a colossal disappointment instead of a mild one. (considering his freshman year). and I guess the 'dad telling about BE Tourney wins' was some sort of attempt at a slight. lame.

Likewise.

As this was a must-win game, this loss is completely unacceptable. And it was all Jeremiah's fault. And III. And Tyler. And Ewing. And GreenWallaceSappHibbert. I can't believe we were outcoached by Boeheim and outclassed on the court by Devendorf. I can't believe Jeff couldn't keep his composure. He'll never play in the NBA. Neither will Roy. I just hope Wright and Freeman still want to come here. Maybe if we pack it in for this season and wait for next year with them, then we'll have a fighting chance to win the regular season title. I just saw our season unravel with this loss tonight. This is worse than Old Dominion. Does anybody want to buy my Big East tickets? I don't feel like going for just one day.

i disagree with anyone that thinks jeff played good defense last night. he was late getting out on a number of 3 attempts and the matador d he played on a devendork layup was horrible.
no one, other than ewing, played even reasonably well on either end of the floor.
