I was psyched when Jeremiah hit his three. He had a look on his face after hitting it, like an enormous weight was lifted off his shoulders. I don't think we're going to look to him as a major perimeter option, but hopefully, he'll be able to hit them when good looks present themselves.
The rest of his game was great, as he's settling into a good all-around game (particularly defensively). 2 boards. 4 assists/2 TOs, a block and a steal.

Doc was also at the ODU game. If I were running the Celtics, I'd be pretty Editeded that my head coach took two side trips in 8 days....

The new system sucked today! People didn't know where to go after the game. half the people went to rosslyn the other half went to dupont. There weren't any busses at dupont. They eventually showed up but not until after a long time very frusterating. As for the game good solid ass kicking good job today boys. Saw solid contributions from summers and macklin.

Vernon was nasty tonight! Clearly trying to usurp the role of Team Dunkosaur.

24 posts and nobody has commented on the 8 assist ZERO turnover night by Sapp?
That's 17 assists versus 4 turnovers on the year for Jessie now. What's a guard got to do to get some attention for his control of the offense? Be a walk-on who everyone doubts can play point?

When Rich said that Jessie had 7 assists at halftime, I thought he was just confused again. Apparently not. Frosh are starting to beast. If they can keep up this rate of improvement, we'll have a great chance on Saturday.

Team looked MUCH better tonight, thankfully.
Roy didn't have a great night, but the Ball St. players who kept fouling his elbows with their faces had even worse nights - I think one lost some teeth.
I thought it was great student turnout for the Monday after Thanksgiving, and I thought they did a pretty good job.
Some ponderings:
1) Still not sure who the odd man out in the guard rotation will be once Crawford is ready to come back. 2) Ewing's energy is HUGE. His block tonight was INSANE. If we had been losing instead of winning it is the type of thing can can turn around a game - get the crowd in, pick up the team. Also his 3 point shot looked to be from beyond NBA range. So who sits among the big men once BE play starts? 3) Aren't 1 and 2 great "problems" to have?

In the spirit of Frank Black's new weekly column, I will now be writing random game notes after each game. - We really need to improve in some areas. Folks have beaten 3-point shooting to death, but I think ball handling against pressure is just as important. This is the area where JW's pedestrian athleticism is a problem. I really only felt comfortable when Sapp had the ball against the press. He probably needs to be the guy who breaks to the baseline on the press break.
- I'm trying to popularize the nickname "Baby Doc" for Jeremiah Rivers. I think it makes him sound like a Haitian dictator. If we had had Baby Doc a few years ago, Sam Dalembert probably wouldn't have scored all those points
- Another area to improve: baseline defense. We do not move our feet well. DaJuan was especially poor in this area. You can tell that he's used to picking up blocked shots by using his long arms, but it really means he's using his athleticism to cover for being lazy on defense. This will have to change.
- About Ewing, the less said, the better. If his name were Patrick Johnson, he's be the #4 scoring option on the fifth-place team in the MAAC.
- No run for Ashanti's little brother tonight. Too bad. I don't know about you, but I miss seeing someone take one jab dribble, then settle for a step-back jumper with one foot on the line with 29 seconds left on the shot clock. The damnable thing was, that shot always went in.
- Multiple people commented that Ticket looks EXACTLY like BoBo on the court. They're almost the same size (Ticket's shoulders are slightly broader), they have exactly the same haircut and skin tone, and they even have a similar bounce in their step. Until Ticket jumps. As good a leaper as Brandon was, there's no comparison.
- Hey, jackass sitting behind me, GET YOUR EDITED SHOES OFF MY ARMRESTS!!
- What do you guys do when there are morons sitting behind you? These are the same schmucks who spent 20 minutes last year arguing whether the coach of Lew Alcindor and Bill Walton at UCLA was Red Grange or Bear Bryant (true story). Everyone has the right to be a Hoya fan, but there should still be standards.
- Baby Doc is going to be a useful bench guard. He has a nice floor game and looks like he can penetrate a little bit, but he should not shoot. Ever. I know his shot went in tonight, but it's just so aesthetically offensive. Shawn Marion's 3-pt stroke looks like the kid who was the star of your 8th grade team. Baby Doc's stroke looks like the kid in 8th grade you never wanted to pass to. Someone needs to show him what to do with his left hand, just so he doesn't look so goofy.
- All in all, I'm reminded that it's still November. The freshmen will be ok come February. Jeff needs to work the kinks out. I think it was a good idea to limit Roy's minutes...it's going to be a long week, and it won't do to have him tired out facing Schuyer and McBoberts on Saturday.
- DaJuan has a nice free throw stroke. It comes off his hands very softly. I could see him developing into a consistent 80% ft shooter, which will be nice. He will definitely keep taking it to the rack, so he needs to be able to convert.
- When Jessie's three ball goes in, it's beautiful. When he misses, wow does he miss.
- FYI, Cameron Indoor Stadium does NOT have breakaway rims. Roy, I expect you to tear at least one off the backboard.
- Nice to see that Bill Shapland has been keeping in shape. Can you imagine Thanksgiving at his house? When he and Big John were sitting together, I thought they might eat a cheerleader.
- Do you think the Joe Touomou jersey they use for the little kiddie races has EVER been washed?
Until Wednesday...

The new seats are.....eh.....muh.....undefined. We'll see how they pan out. I kinda feel like I'm not at home. We did sit near the Parents Hibbert, though. That's kinda fun.

macklin would be fun to watch on a team that pressed and ran up and down all night...im honestly surprised he came to gtown knowing the style of play...you can tell he is nasty Thompson mentioned after the Fairfield game that he wanted to work on, in the upcoming weeks, of toying with different lineups to put out both halfcourt teams as well as teams that can run and play faster. It was the first time I ever heard him actually saying that he was looking at working on going uptempo with the Hoyas (previously he had simply mentioned that the Princeton system could be played at a fast pace). This team, IMO, would get a real lift if it would press full court more and try to get themsleves some easy baskets off turnovers and the fast break. Thompson has the personnel NOW for it. Hopefully he'll get them running a bit more soon.

In the spirit of random thoughts . . .
The "bounce on the ball and stuff things down your shirt" timeout game should really be played with female co-eds.

The last line of the Post article by Camille: "Green missed his first shot early in the second half, when Skip Mills blocked his jumper. That clearly didn't sit well with Green, who hustled back on defense and leapt high to swat Mills's layup attempt; Mills fell to the ground, and Green stared down at him." That moment was AWESOME. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/27/AR2006112701616.html

I thought we were OK at breaking the press once the ball was in, but we struggled a lot to succesfully inbound it in the first place. We had problems with that in other games as well.
