The above is a quote from Hoyahavoc.
First off, Welcome to the Hilltop, Omar! Looking forward to seeing you play!
I love the write-up from havoc -- great shooter, great basketball IQ. Ultimate team player. Would anyone give up Jon Wallace?
This is what the "trust the coaching staff" folks have been saying. If something doesn't seem logical, you have two choices. Either assume the staff are idiots, and you know better, or assume the staff know something about the player you don't. In this case, you've got a rapidly improving player (according to the TN link, he's rapidly improved his range by getting stronger just this summer) who fits the team concept, will work hard, fits the offense, is a smart player, loves Georgetown and will be here four years.
You can look at our apparent lack of scholarships / plethora of guards either as a question of why the heck would we do this. But I think it is an endorsement of Wattad that even with those questions, they wanted Wattad.
Welcome, Omar!

Yeah, kicking this one... Not many know about Wattad, but he sounds like a keeper. Hopefully some of the folks in TN will head out to watch him and report.

The biggest tip-off is that the "JTIII and staff rankings" have him as high as Hickson and Randolph. All our other commits from Sapp on have been Maryland, Virginia, or son of Big Pat's pro teammate. JTIII and company have been (correctly) playing the local angle so hard that they really haven't seemed to pursue guys outside the area all that hard with a few exceptions. Wattad is one of those exceptions. That says a lot.

Wattad seems like he'll be a good roll player. Bobby Winston with a jumper.

i work with a friend of omar that was a senior when omar was a freshman at science hill.he said he could shoot well, but did not play good defence.i think he will need to get stronger he is skinny around 6-4 not 6-6.needs to develope and could play in a couple of years.
that is the word on him a player that will take 2-3 years to play much.my source is a close friend that played with him.
go hoyas i am out!!!!!!!!

luckily wattad realizes this: "Wattad expects to slowly work himself into the Georgetown line-up over the next few years. Wattad acknowledged he some things in his game to work on, but believes he can be a major factor for the Hoyas as an upper classman."

I wonder if this might show some sort of indication of where he fits into the scholarship issue. The staff may have told him that he is welcome to come, but if there is no scholly available for him, he might have to go prep for a year.

I found interesting info on the Rival's message board.
Basically, Jerry Meyer is reporting that the Hoyas are taking Omar as a walk-on and that he gets the feeling that Omar recruited the Hoyas even harder than the staff recruited him.
A poster from the Vandy website added -
Wattad told us at VandySports.com that Georgetown originally wanted him to wait until the spring and then they'd have a scholarship waiting for him. This was about a month ago granted.
He also said that Vanderbilt and himself came to a agreement to kinda part ways in his recruiting as VU looked towards other 2's and 3's and he looked closer at Georgetown, UNCW, and U-Mass.
I've seen Omar play at Science Hill and I think he's a strong mid-major type player who in the right system and with the right coaching, could develop into a reliable member of a high major team by his junior or redshirt sophomore year.
I think his game is comparable to a player that Vanderbilt had during their last NCAA run, Corey Smith. Though I think Smith was a overall better athlete than Wattad.
Just my 2 cents Hoya fan. Either way, he's a good kid and Coach Thompson should enjoy coaching him.
Also, Dave Telep of Scout described him as a "junkyard dog" and had him rated at the highest level for a mid major recruit.

Great to see his desire to come to GU... I bet it wasn't even close GU vs. UN-W...

Sorry for asking again, but just curious if anyone knows: is Omar the first Arab player to play for us? I'm pretty sure he is - just checking.
