Honestly, this has got to be the worst post in the history of sports message boards. Let's be clear, no message board fan, aside from someone on a WNBA board, could actually beat the players they are talking about. That doesn't mean we shouldn't discuss how good they are compared to their peers.

This thread exists so that the_way can continue to remind us of his man-love for Rudy.

And the hype continues. Rudy Gay makes AP second team All-American.
Gay may be a really nice kid (don't know, but it's certainly possible), and he isn't responsible for this ridiculous hype. But it's enough, already. Rudy, take your butt to the NBA, so we can put a stop to all of this nonsense.

I really, REALLY hope baselinejournal whoever he/she is doesn't think any of us are under the impression we can take him "in the paint." Well, maybe Boz, but I once saw him school Johnny Kilroy so that's not TOTALLY out of the realm of possibility.

Hey, I scored over Dikembe. Well... the arch of the ball from my three-point shot went over him and in.

Rudy is fantastically talented, I'll give him that. But 2nd team All-American? Come on, Associated Press, you should be better than that! 15 points and 6.5 boards a game. On a team where he was far from the first option. That's b.s.

I know this isn;t the best time to bring this up but...I think you're all way, way off on Gay. I'll tell you right now who the best comparison to Rudy Gay will be...Vince Carter. I don't know how old all of you are and whether you remember when Jerry Stackhouse and VC were at UNC. At the time, Stack was the man, best player in college ball, and VC was this lanky, tweener who could sky but was too tall to defend the college 2 and yet not yet filled out enough to bang down low...he had these flashes of crazy athleticism and yet when the game was on the line, UNC went to Stack every time because, at the time, he was the more complete player. Now, personality and character issues aside, I'll tell you right now, Gay will be a better pro than college player and will be, by far, the best NBA player to come off this current UConn team. At 6'9" he can play and defend the 2 in the NBA. Continuation will be huge for his game with his ability to finish. Less zone, more man will allow him to eat guys up on offense. Don't get me wrong, I can't stand UConn. But IMO you're all missing the boat on Gay in terms of pure talent. Actually I don't remember Stackhouse and Carter playing together at UNC BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T!!! Stackhouse came out in 1995 and Carter didn't begin until that fall. It was Stackhouse and Rasheed Wallace who played together at UNC (I was there when they beat us in the Sweet Sixteen in Birmingham). Carter played with Antwan Jamison at UNC (I was there when they lost in Richmond to Texas Tech and Darvin Ham shattered the backboard right in front of me).

Well I was there when...I don't need to brag. Agree with the poster who said Gay will be a better pro than a college player because as long as there are Ricky Davis' around making money, there will be a place for Rudy Gay. Plus, Rudy Gay >>> Ricky Davis if he ever got his act together.

That 2nd team AP All-America nod was ridiculous. The AP Writers are clueless, they just continue referring to their own media machine for information instead of watching a game themselves. If any of them got their heads out of their asses and watched the Tournament there is no way Gay is an All-American anything.
I will correct my own post from before, Gay is definitely a lottery pick but no one can tell me he has the onions to excel in the NBA. He will be a combination of Tim Thomas and Kwame Brown.

I agree that Gay is way overrated, but I have never seen anything from him that shows him as having an attitude problem like Tim Thomas and Kwame Brown. Gay has tons of talent, but clearly lacks the fire/drive/passion to play the game. If he actually showed some intensity and aggressiveness, he would be a legitimate lottery pick. But at this point, I wouldn't want my team expending a top 10 pick on him.

Ill say it again...None of you guys or so called critics can say that to his face. None of you will be in the league or dare step on the floor to say he sucks. If he sucks why did he get recruited by a top school. Don't think Georgetown is the hype everbody thinks it is........

If he stinks why did he get recruited by a top school. Don't think Georgetown is the hype everbody thinks it is........ You really think Rudy would care about what some average fan would say to his face? I'm pretty sure once he makes it to the league he'll face hundreds if not thousands of fans in every opposing arena who will tell him to his face that he's no good. And if he reacts badly to it (a la Artest), as you're implying he could do which would cause us to be hesitant to say anything to his face, it's a 6 or 7 figure settlement for any of us, which I'm sure we'd gladly take. As for your "no one here is as good as him at basketball or will make the NBA" comment, we've been through this already. Perhaps you should re-read the thread to understand that we're already fully aware of that point, and that you're wasting your time by restating your previous pointless post.

Does that work the other way too? Or are you allowed to slurp Gay's jock without being a pro baller?

If he stinks why did he get recruited by a top school. Don't think Georgetown is the hype everbody thinks it is........ You're making zero sense, baselinejournal. None. Fans and sportswriters spend their entire LIVES knocking players they think are overrated. That's what we do. Are you not familiar with this concept? I'm wondering why you're so up-in-arms because a few people on a message board think he's overrated and not worthy of the hype. You Rudy's buddy or something? I mean I personally think he's got talent out the wazoo, just hasn't put it all together yet... and that's why I don't think he earned 2nd Team A-A or 1st Team BE honors. But I think in the pros his game will expand and he'll have a decent career. Personally, if I ever met him and got the chance to talk to him, I'd say as much. That's he's one of the most talented kids I've seen, but I wish we'd all gotten the chance to see him put it together in college. Also, so what if none of us are ever going to play him. I'm never going to play against Ed Nelson, but I think he's el poopo too. Is he better than me? To quote a man much smarter than myself, "Duh." But that doesn't mean he isn't a slug and that I can't say so. Finally, you're telling me because a guy is recruited by a D-1 school he's GOOD? Hahahahahaha... that's hysterical. C'mon now... you're better than that.

I can have whatever opinion I want and unless it's going to get me reprimanded or harm me in some way that makes it not even worth it, I'll say it to whoever I want. Nothing wrong with opinions, pal.

Kwame Brown alert!
While I would be the first to criticize Kwame Brown, it should be noted that he has most likely set a personal record by playing three consecutive outstanding games. This is not a joke. He's averaged something like 17 and 9 over those three games, and his defense continues to be solid. The Zenmeister has had a lot of good things to say about him.

I At 6'9" he can play and defend the 2 in the NBA. Considering that he cannot defend the 2 against the CAA, I take issue with that statement.
