I'm tired of this. For the last 2 years, I've been hearing crap about how this guy is the 2nd coming of Christ to college basketball.
I saw this cat play in high school, and I knew he was overhyped. What we have seen the past 2 years, has not suprised me at all. He got Big East co-rookie-of-the-year just off hype alone. Even his own coach,Terd Calhoun, has been trashing him lately for his play.
Denham Brown, Anderson, Boone, Armstrong and Anderson are better basketball players than Rudy Gay for UCONN.
Enough is enough. Does he have incriminating evidence against guys in the media? Is that why he gets so much pub for being subpar? I mean really.
I hate UCONN. But, damn. Rip Hamilton was great. Caron Butler was great. Ray Allen was great. Donyell Marshall was great. I give credit where credit is due. But,Rudy Gay has got to be one of the most overhyped players ever.

It's so strange that we have a player like Gay even playing college basketball. Unfortunately with the NBA rule, we might get more. He doesn't seem interested most of the time. He already knows he's a lottery pick so he doesn't think about improving his game. And the worst part is, he can drop by UConn for two years and (possibly) win a national championship just by being on a team with overwhelming talent. It's Charlie Villanueva all over again.
And the media loves this garbage. Gay pretty much takes everything you love about college ball and throws it out the window and they bow to him at every turn.

But at least Villanueva showed something, he gave his team something. Gay does practically nothing for all the hype he gets. I just don't get it.

He's soft. I have seen this coming since last year. He has that Kwame Brown syndrome--he was born into the body of a basketball player with unbelievable athletecism, but he just doesn't want it bad enough. He doesn't have that game changing, takeover a game edge. He is content with being 3rd option. I really think that's how he'll be in the NBA too--if he lands on a team with another star or two, he'll be fine. If he went to somewhere like New Jersey or Phoenix where he had Kidd/Nash feeding him alleyoops on fast breaks, he'd have a nice career. But if he gets picked top 3 in the draft by some team expecting him to be a go to guy.... He's gonna really flop.
His teammate, Williams, though, is gonna be a GREAT NBA player, if he keeps his head on straight. Book it.

I absolutely hate UConn...even more than Syracuse. That Calhoun is so bloody smug...I can't stand it.
Regarding Gay...he's been hyped for so long that it almost seems sacrelgious to say something bad about him.

AMEN to what Way said--I keep waiting to see this player that everyone speaks of and all I see is some gutless queen who plays like a chump and because he can jump and looks athletic, people proclaim him to be great. Gay is a player who gets credit for what he could be instead of what he does--which is sad, but also comes with being surrounded by good players that make you look better too.
For instance, I'd argue Gay wasn't even one of the best 10 players on the court and if you are as great as he's hyped to be, then that is NEVER even a debate.

I know that he needs to go why the hype is still on him. If he comes back next year the truth will be told that he is an average Joe! Uconn is so big inside, Rudy has been forced to play the 3 spot. He's placed at the 3spot with no jumper or creativity to the bucket!!! Work hard this summer Jeff G. and show them who is the man from the Beltway......

I totally agree, _way. The guy is the Tin Man... no heart.
HOWEVER, you post more about this guy than others post about Duke. If you're going to complain about those people going on and on about Duke or GW or whomever, maybe a little self-assessment is in order.
THIS IS A HOYA BOARD, REMEMBER??? REAL HOYA FANS TALK ABOUT THE HOYAS!
Sound familiar?

Buffalo, you are correct. I was just responding. Now I know it is early but we all feel better at this point going into next year with the Hoyas. Recruiting class is awesome along with Josh Thortnon and T. Spann...I noticed there demeanor on the bench. They can't wait to shineWatch out for these fellows..........

Unlike, the 1000 posts about Duke, Coach K, JJ, GW and their message boards. I will say this though. The closet Duke fans on this board keep better tabs on Duke and GW related material than does a certain someone who kept tabs on G-town recruiting updates. ;D

He looked like trash in their open practice on Thursday. Seemed disinterested and missed many of his shots. I came away with my thoughts of him not being great solidified. Williams is much better than Gay.

And even if you were going to go solely by athleticism and explosiveness... why isn't Tyrus Thomas mentioned more than Gay? He's done more in this tournament than Gay by far, and doesn't have nearly the supporting cast around him as Gay does.

That kid is downright nasty. But I think the secret is out on him. High lottery, whenever he comes out.

Packer said it on the telecast friday night. "We hear about Rudy Gay all the time and never anything about Green, who could be or is a better player"

It was nice to hear someone in the media come out and say that (even if it was Billy Packer). If Rudy stays again next year, think we'll hear a lot more things like that from a lot more people. That being said, I hope he is long gone next year.....then Jeff can have the praise all to himself!

Gotta love the GMU game where Gay made 2 or 3 shots in a row, and then statrted pounding his chest for like 5 minutes. After that he disapeared for the rest of the game. If he is such a good player then why is Uconn having Brown and Anderson taking all of their last second shots?

If he is such a good player then why is Uconn having Brown and Anderson taking all of their last second shots? I don't know if he disappeared, RI. 20 pts on 8/16 shooting, led his team in scoring and probably was their only consistent offensive threat for stretches at a time during the game. But, this just continues to prove how inconsistent he is, and if you're an NBA GM with a top 3 pick, would you want to gamble on that kind of inconsistent play? I'm not sure I would.
