Disappointing, in my opinion. I guess their conclusion was that Pitt was over-rated, as evidenced by their drop.

where'd you get this? I havent found it online yet? Also, it makes no sense to drop Pitt to 14 and yet still have them ahead of us. If you're gonna drop them that far there is no excuse for not putting Georgetown in front of them. I think we deserved #13 or 14 in the AP Poll.

UCLA bothers me more than Pitt.

Oh well, looks like the WVU game will give us another opportunity for a Top 10 victory. **Knock on wood, purely trivia question** When was the last time we beat 3 top 10 teams in a season?

I'd have no compuncture at all about playing any of the 7 teams ahead of us, home or away.

Eh, We should be ahead of Pitt, but this sounds about right. We still haven't won a decent game on the road...not that it matters, but I'm sure that's a part of the argument. Maybe we go to #13.
I'm fine where we are...let's worry about St. John's and WVU this week!

We are still underrated in both polls. It is as if the pollsters are just waiting for us to lose a game so they can drop us back into the 20's without making it seem like to drastic a fall...we are definitely better than some of the teams directly near us in the poll (i.e BC, NCState, Ohio State, Pitt and UCLA)

Not shocking, really ... only Washington really deserved to sink below us ... maybe Pitt, too, but I think the fact that it was a home game (and a close game) keeps them a notch above us. Don't think it will last, though. Beat Johnnies and WVU and you're 12. Beat Nova, and we can talk top 10.
Right now, though, we are legitimately one of the top 15 teams in the country.
Who cares where GW is ranked? It's better for DC basketball for people to be hyped up about them ... if we go further in the tourney (place your bets), then this thing can be settled.
Also, will be interesting to see which BE schools "also received votes" ...

A month ago, many on this board would have given their left nut to see the Hoyas ranked #15 and #16 in the polls. Now is not the time to whine about some perceived miscarriage of justice here. There is plenty of time for the polls to work themselves out.
Personally, I think it's great that GW is doing so well. All they can do is play their schedule. It is somewhat akin to the "pot calling the kettle black" for us to disparage another team for playing a weak schedule. How soon we forget. Their success only helps fuel interest in local college basketball. A good thing.

I was thinking the same thing. We had two top -ten victories in 95/96. Since there are no more polls until after we play WVU, they can't drop out of the top-10 with a loss to Pitt. In all likelihood, we'll have one more shot at 'Nova before the BET. What a helluva season!!

I guarantee you that if we lost to Seton Hall (a la NC State), we would be no where near #16, despite all of the good wins we have had...

yeah - i am not disappointed with this ranking - and as for the next 7 teams - i would rather play Florida than play Michigan State - they are scary and quite good when at full strength.
but overall - about where we should be in my opinion - UCLA is kind of a paper tiger, but they lost a close game to the 'eers and have looked good in rolling through the Pac-10 - Tennessee is hot but who knows if that will last.

couldn't agree more - we are getting SO much press when you think about it - all great for the program...who cares one spot in the polls at the beginning of february A month ago, many on this board would have given their left nut to see the Hoyas ranked #15 and #16 in the polls. tennessee I think is legit. ucla's best win is on the road at michigan and they don't have any bad losses but the pac-10 is a joke this season. I think we're better.
other than ucla I can't quibble with any team ahead of us (ok, well maybe Gw but can't fault a team for putting up win after win).

Not to get overly technical, but the AP Poll votes are as follows:
13. UCLA 914 14. Pitt 911 15. Georgetown 870 16. NC State 648
There are 72 voters in the AP Poll; we're only 41 votes behind 14th and 44 votes behind 13th. Meanwhile, we're 222 ahead of 16th.
Tells me we were firmly in the Top 15 there with some disagreement that could very easily have put us up as high as 13th.
WV at #10. Hoyas as #16. Beat them and we jump them.

I don't know the answer, but our chances are great. WVU will be coming to MCI after playing at Pitt. Pitt will be feeling our loss. If GW continues like this, and all the teams in front of them drop one or two games (i.e., Villanova against us), they might be a #1 seed. ;D Could it be the first time a #1 seed gets bumped by a #16?
