Let me be the first to congratulate Tony Kornheiser for correctly predicting at the start of the season that the Hoyas would be top-15.

No, a 1 seed will not lose to a 16 seed.
GW is overrated. They are not bad.
They're actually a tough, gritty team who run like hell and are not fun to play against. 5 times out of 7, we beat them. At their best, they can beat us.
This GW stinks talk is getting ridiculous.

Never said they stink. However, they are not the 8th best team in the country.
I'm very happy slotted at #15. Let's take care of business v. SJU and then concentrate on the Eers. They travel pretty well usually, so hopefully there will be a big crowd supporting the Hoyas.
Remember where we were before the Duke game. 2-2 in the Big East, South Florida has the ball down a point with the shot clock off - at MCI. Dodged the bullet there, and we've been rolling ever since.

I really take comfort in the fact that at this point in time, I look at us ranked at #15... and I look up the list, and I see 14 teams, and there's not a single one that I don't think we can take. We've beaten 2 of them in Duke and Pitt. We should've beaten West Virginia, and have a chance at making good on that this weekend. We proved, in my opinion, that we can hang with UConn too, and I really wouldn't mind at all to see them again at MSG.
If we keep playing at the level we're playing at, nothing is impossible for this team. St. Johns is next--let's not have any final stretch slip-ups to them like we had last year.

I wonder what tony bethel thinks about the rankings. Tony probably realizes that he'd be playing in Turkey this year had he stayed at Gtown. From a basketball perspective, Tony leaving wasn't a bad move. He got an extra year, will make the NCAAs his junior and senior year, and at the time, it didn't look like our big man centered offense was going anywhere. I can't blame him. Still, it makes me appreciate Ashanti and Brandon so much more. Think about their situation: the team fails to make the NCAAs for the second year in a row; the team's star jumps to the pros; the team's starting and backup PG transfer; the coach looks like he might be gone soon, which is bad even if you do like him. Granted, they obviously had a lot of opportunity for PT and individual accomplishments in that situation, but still have to give them a ton of credit for staying.

Pitt could have run us out of the gym the other day if we didn't finish the half the way we did so when you factor in their RPI, I think this is about right. We were on our court after all. What a half time adjustment by the way on Gray.
All we have to do it take care of business on Thursday and Sunday and we will be all set. I am just as happy as I can be that we are in the polls. It has been a long time boys.

I think you guys at 15 is a complete joke. I was expecting to see you around 11 or 12 after the two weeks you guys just had. What is even weirder is that your games have been on TV so its not like coaches and writers have not seen these really good games. Polls move very slowly though - and you will have to wait for those in front to lose I guess. But this ranking is strange to say the least. My guess is that people are now thinking Pitt was over-rated because they lost two games in a row - but all you can do is to keep winning the games in front of you.

Those last 29 seconds of the game hurt us a lot. If we had beaten Pitt by 8-10 points we probably would have gotten those 45 votes needed to be #13. And it probably is more like 23 votes as every point for us is likely one less for them.
And dont think that 13 vs 15 doesnt make a difference. Each spot counts as it means it takes longer to fall and its less work to rise. Especially when you get to this level. Its hard to move up. You need others above you to lose. In my book the last 29 seconds set us back a week worth of effort climbing the rankings.
But at any rate, very happy with how we are doing.

I'm in the camp that finds it absurd we're still behind Pitt. Late game collapse or not, we WON the game and they LOST the game, and we are ahead of them in the BE standings. Should've been 14th.
Also another interesting little tidbit brought to my attention by a friend/SHU fan: SHU received 4 votes last week in the coaches' poll, won both their games, and promptly lost all their votes this week. Again, just another reason the coaches' poll is just a complete joke.

Since the average home court advantage is 4 points, I'll say it again, a three point win at home says nothing definitive about your team being better. The rankings are stupid in general, but there is a huge glut past about Top 5 through 20-odd, where I think the teams are all about the same. Sure, we're in the lower part of that, but that's okay.

Georgetown is #12 in Pomeroy ratings, but if you look to the far right for ranking for the last 5 games: kenpom.com/rate.php1. UConn 2. Georgetown 3. Michigan State 4. GW 5. Kansas 6. North Carolina 7. Duke 8. Oklahoma 9. Seton Hall 10. Tennessee

Michael Wilbon, so funny:
"But the Maryland obsession with Duke is so childish and ignorant...I've got tons of friends, close ones, who are Maryland alums and I never know what to say to them with Maryland folk embarass themselves by complaining over Duke all the time. It's such an unattractive thing...for the whole school in general."
