It was obvious that one of the pre-season needs was a perimeter shooter. Instead, of the incoming transfers, only Mack had an average 3pt%. The others had below-average 3pt%.

We really do need a good three point shooter, but I am just not seeing it. We really need one of the other freshman to step up. I know Epps and Mack get criticism (especially Epps)*, but the rest of our roster has been abysmal from three: Sorber: 1-6 Peavy: 2-9 Halaifonua: 2-6 Burks: 0-5 Fielder: 0-3 Curtis Williams: 0-3 Mulready: 0-2 Caleb Williams: 0-1 McKenna: 1-3 While these are obviously small samples, the only guy on that list who we know can do much better is Drew Fielder. It's up in the air on the others. It would be nice to be surprised. I think these guys will do better than they are now, but unsure by how much? Hopefully a lot but I am not overly optimistic on that. *If the whole team was shooting like Epps/Mack from three point range, we'd be in the middle of the pack of the Big East. Not great, but serviceable.

None of them seem to be pure shooters, this is why ball movement and attacking the Roland kicking out for open 3s is so crucial. Why it seem like we get no open shots. All contested

Not likely to end like this but it seems fair based on what we have seen so far.

Another analytic peek that isn't pretty for Gtown so far...

Three games is too small a sample but that graph does not look good.

Was flipping back between Marquette and DePaul game. I would love to see us use Fielder like Marquette uses Gold. We only have 4 people doing anything on offense and it would be great to get Drew going. On the DePaul side they were down mid second half but found a way. I want to see their first real game but we will have to wait for another week or two before they have any real competition. I feel my original assessment will probably be right. They are very streaky.

Marquette looked awesome. Of course, their key contributors are all juniors and seniors, and Shaka is an outstanding coach. They had a great night and played awesome.
Kam Jones was really impressive.
It will hard to be patient while our good players get older and develop experience.

It will hard to be patient while our good players get older and develop experience. That is, if they stay… Fundamentally, this is my greatest concern. Initially, Patrick Ewing and now Ed Cooley appear to be recruiting players and after a year working with those players they decide they need someone else. While the portal may require paying up to a player who values themselves more than the coach values them, ultimately to have a team grow and develop the coach needs to retain the starting players and several others for multiple seasons to build consistency. Barring that, the coach needs to be able to put a system in place that is readily teachable so that players who come in can rapidly merge into a team capable of winning. In the last 3 years of Patrick Ewing's tenure we retained very few players. Similarly, following year one, Ed Cooley retained very few players. If the trend of most players moving on continues under Ed Cooley, it is hard to see how the Hoyas will ever move from the bottom of the Big East. Hopefully, the mass exodus after year one is not again repeated at the end of this season.

St John’s did everything possible to ensure a loss. Would have been big for the conference

SJU blows 18 point lead, loses in double OT, two missed FTs while leading 98-96 and Baylor hits a 3 to win 99-98.
