The only additions I would consider short term are Saint Louis and Gonzaga. Gonzaga for basketball reputation and ideological fit. And Saint Louis because it's a major media market add to the current offering.
Beyond that I wouldn't touch any of those northeast schools mentioned with a 10 foot pole. Not to mention the current BE programs in those markets would not be keen to add them either.

Gtown at #13 shows on paper that this team has talent.. 8 BE teams overall. This is a nonsense tool unfortunately. It just uses recruiting star rankings. Doesn't take into account if a top 50 kid in 2020 is now a senior and has not been very good in college - this still considers them a top 50 stud. Or if a 3 star has turned out to a great player for a team for multiple seasons it still dings the "talent" because he was a 3 star.

Does it take "points" away for being a lower-ranked player or are they not factored in as much? I doubt Uconn is losing points by having Karaban & Mahaney on the team, if so that would definitely hurt its credibility

This is not surprising, nor is it surprising that some of the Big 12 programs were against adding Connecticut. The only reason to move would be for the additional football money, the offer that was discussed wouldn't have Connecticut moving for football until 2031, and even then Connecticut would have had to meet certain thresholds on football that it likely cannot meet.

Pure garbage considering the great majority of fans didn't want this move, I'm sure the teams didn't either outside of the football team.

That and the official Big 12 statement are a lot of words to say “we don’t have the votes” and UConn getting absolutely pummeled by Maryland this past weekend (50-7) did not help lol. It could also definitely be in part the deferred entry of football coupled with a demanded increase in spending leading up to entry. That plus the Big East poison pill might be too much for an already hemorrhaging program. The Big 12 money is sizable but I can absolutely see those who hold the UConn funding keys not falling for the “please bro just one more bailout and then we will be ok” shtick.

The irony is that (1) presumably Connecticut would not have gotten much more than the Big East money for moving to the Big 12 because football would not have moved until 2031, (2) to have any chance at the Big 12 football money, they would have had to make big investments (i.e., spend a lot of money) that would have cost a lot of money and still not guaranteed entry for football, and (3) there is no guarantee that the Big 12, as it exists right now, would even exist in 2031 for Connecticut to join for football.
One could easily envision a scenario where Connecticut left the Big East for a little more short term money, makes big investments, and then never ends up with big time football money anyway. Other than having a great basketball program now and in the past, I truly do not see what Connecticut offers the Big 12 which already has a ton of great basketball programs. And don't tell me the "market" thing--people had been saying that for years, and it just doesn't pan out.

A very good hire for St. John's The job of a Big East athletic director is not getting any easier, particularly at St. John's. The next AD wil be the sixth different leader there since Jack Kaiser retired in 1995. Where once the AD only had to answer to the St. John's president, the new AD has three people to keep happy: Rev. Shanley, Rick Pitino, and Vitamin Water founder Mike Repole. It's likely Pitno and Repole signed off on this hire. For a school which dropped a number of men's sports 20 years ago, basketball is the only real egg left in its basket. St. John's has no football, no track and field, no swimming, no women's lacrosse, no rowing. The pressure on a new hire is whether to put even more funding into men's basketball, likely at the expense of those programs which are still there. We can guess what Pitino wants, and as Maryland fans can attest, having a wealthy alumnus with influence in an athletic department has its ups and its downs. A more interesting search is underway at Villanova, where Mark Jackson, the highest paid AD in the conference, quit to take the AD role at Northwestern.
