From @jeff_Neiburg (Phila. Inquirer)
"Quick breaker on Max Shulga... He was on campus recently and planned to move this week. VCU stepped up its NIL offering, and so Shulga is going back to coach Ryan Odom.
A reminder: commitments mean nothing when you’re in the Wild West."

And to think, Kyle Neptune is being paid millions by Villanova and he cannot even keep his transfers. They're not getting what they're paying for. Bad ROI. No urgency. The administration there just doesn't care enough.
(Sarcasm detector reading is positive, though in actuality I don't think Neptune is ultimately going to get it done for Villanova, but he is still an early-stage coach).

Nice to see Hurley and Uconn getting the respect- but I do not see it ( that high a national rating ). They lost their PG, their premier Big and their Glue ( Spenser ), and Castle. It would not surprise me to see UConn 2nd-4th in the BE. Anyone else see the similarities between Freemantle and Fielder ?

I like this add for SHU. He's had a couple of ankle injuries in his first 1.5 years, but he's got a motor -- Sha's type of guy.

"Beside Liam mcnelly what big east freshman will make impacts right away I’m torn between Marquette’s Damarius Owens and St. John’s Jaiden Glover because a convincing case for or against either becoming a true impact freshman could be made. I’ll go with Glover due to the fact that Owens is walking into a Marquette roster that lost nothing to the transfer portal and has a deep pool of returning talent that will eat up a lot of minutes. Glover’s appeal as an impact guy is multifold. Handing Rick Pitino a 6-foot-6 wing with a sweet and consistent shooting stroke seems like a recipe for success to me. Also, there should be plenty of minutes available on a team with a reshaped roster and in need of dangerous outside shooters that can defend multiple positions. Glover checks that box. Pitino has developed countless players with Glover’s markers, and it helps that the four-star’s trajectory as a prospect has been overwhelmingly positive for the last year or so. He reeks of a player that could start off the season hot and cold while he adjusts to the college game before really coming into his own once conference play gets under way." basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/mail-call-indiana-big-east-freshmen-hypothetical-fight-kiyan-anthony

I guarantee that if Sorber were in Pitino's freshman class next year, Pitino would be touting him and Sorber would be getting noticed a lot more. Pitino is a consummate salesman in addition to being a great coach.

Pitino is a consummate salesman in addition to being a great coach. why hasn't Gtown's charismatic coach touted his incoming players? Folks can't use getting settled in a new place as the reasoning any longer I don't know. It's notable that the school year only finished last week, and rosters are still being assembled. Keep in mind guys finishing off their classes at other universities, like Mack and Peavy very well might not even be on campus yet, much less had an opportunity to work out with the staff or Cooley. This should change in June as the summer session starts, and then when Kenner starts. So while you raise a fair concern, I also think it's premature to see how the off season unfolds. To be fair, I think Cooley is in a tough spot here. If he goes out there and touts Sorber and Fielder, for example, then he's going to create expectations, and if they don't play well, then Cooley will be accused of being a car salesman and talking but not delivering. Contrarily, if he doesn't tout his players, then people will complain about him not being out there enough or being positive enough about his team. Most of this derives from the horrible year we had: when you go 2-18 (contrary to St. John's which was almost a tournament team), it's a lot harder to tout yourself in a meaningful manner. Especially for Cooley after what is the worst coaching season of his life. It just runs the risk of being tone deaf. Had we instead, let's say, gone 7-13, and had good chances for improvement this year, then that's suddenly a lot easier to brag about. But, sure I agree that now that Cooley has been around over a year, he needs to do interviews and make himself present. Unlike Pitino, social media is clearly not Cooley's thing (nor is it for a lot of coaches), though I think he could improve on that by working with social media people. He also needs to do it in other ways. I still think he does this frequently in smaller group sessions a LOT more than people on here appreciate, but I agree that doing things to increase our profile in the media are win-win.

I'll continue to use these two for comparison since they started their new gigs last year also. Both English & Pitino have spoken about their incoming portal players so the reasoning that they're not on campus yet falls short. I think every coach should be out there promoting their program constantly, critics be damned. If the HC isn't going to be overly positive about their program why should any fan of that program be positive?

"UConn, Xavier, Creighton highlight way-too-early Big East basketball power rankings The dust has (mostly) settled in the transfer portal. Who has emerged at the top of the Big East pecking order?... 8. GEORGETOWN HOYAS Projected starting lineup: G Malik Mack G Jayden Epps Wing Micah Peavy F Jordan Burks F Drew Fielder Top bench options: G Curtis Williams, F Thomas Sorber, Wing Drew McKenna The scoop: Jayden Epps shot 38% on 103 catch-and-shoot 3-pointers last year. He shot just 22% on 107 off-the-dribble 3-pointers. Georgetown, simply, had to get another lead guard. Enter Harvard transfer Malik Mack. Epps and Mack are a bit small, but offensively, it could really work if Mack is a playmaker who can score and Epps is a scorer who can also create. It might be a bit clunky while the two lead guards figure out how to play with eachother, but it's a gamble Georgetown just had to make. If Mack can get Epps more high-quality, catch-and-shoot treys, the 1-2 punch should put up numbers. TCU transfer Micah Peavy, a 6-foot-8, 215-pound wing, is the perfect complement to two small guards. Peavy is an excellent defender, but he also can make plays off the bounce and create some long closeouts for Georgetown's talented guards. Mack, Epps and Peavy is a rock-solid, Big Three and sophomore forward Drew Fielder looks like a hit. But Ed Cooley has three more open scholarships and landing another impact big man is a priority. Georgetown needs more size and a certified glass-cleaner. That's easier said than done at this stage in the portal, but it could make-or-break Georgetown's push out of the Big East cellar." 247sports.com/longformarticle/uconn-xavier-creighton-highlight-way-too-early-big-east-basketball-power-rankings-231989950/#2422370

Was unlikely after the courts didn't get involved but I guess this makes it official.
