Cooley/our brand might be toxic at this point.

We think that’s us and not UNC? I’d be surprised.

Alabama has football money to help with paying basketball recruits, that why we need more alumni donations to help Georgetown get these guys.

Cooley/our brand might be toxic at this point. It’s not toxic, it just doesn’t have much to sell right now outside of “Be a part of the Gtown rebranding” In the end, I don’t think they missed out on a big opportunity

Playing alongside Grant Nelson and Stevenson, with Mark Sears running the show- cannot blame him. Cooley has a tough job, being at the bottom. These kids want to win. It doesn't help that Cooley's first year was so abysmal. Yea, there were reasonable excuses for a rough first year, but the Ewing-like ( or worse ) defense played by the 23/24 Hoyas certainly wasn't a good reflection on the coach.

He got him. There’s still time to get the talent we need, but Cooley has to search far and wide.

We have a clear need and prime opportunity for an experienced big man. Immediate minutes and a huge role. And presumably we have the $ we allocated for Cliff. There has to be someone of quality that fits the bill.

We should look at Intl kids more. Would have liked to have had Cliff but at 2mm that is crazy--he can be a piece on an already good team but is too one dimensional to tatally transform a mediocre team.

I’ve stated from the beginning that I am not a fan of CO’s game and wasn’t excited about him playing for Gtown. I doubt the class of the player mattered much but Oats did want a defensive 5 for next season so good for him, if Cooley coached something similar to the system Oats runs I would have been more for taking him also. I agree that there’s still talent available

Still early, but all of Alabama’s incoming transfers are upperclassmen and 5-yrs, except one. Alabama has 3 incoming freshmen (one 5-star & two 4-stars) and has two players in the NBA Draft process. Alabama is at 11 scholarships (incl. Cilff O) and waiting for the two NBA prospects to decide. So, for the time being, we’re in luck because Alabama will not compete for more transfers.

Disappointing, but not a shock. Competing with Alabama and UNC is like Temple competing for a QB with Auburn and Clemson-- Temple finished last in its conference and averaged 13,446 a game, so it is not going to be a destination for a major transfer when they can play at larger programs.
That said, he's not the future for Alabama, either. Here are the 2023-24 stats for three centers. Who is the game changer here?
A. 10.6 points, 7.0 rebounds B. 10.4 points, 8.3 rebounds C. 9.8 points, 7.8 rebounds
FWIW, (A) is Eddie Lampkin, off to Syracuse, (B) is Omoruyi, and (C) is Qudus Wahab, so about a half point and a half rebound per game separated Omoruyi and Wahab last season.
The remaining pickings are slim for centers in the portal: either a lot of international players that, like Timothy Ighoefe, didn't get of the bench at their last school (Chol Marial, Frank Anselem, Churchiil Abass) or fifth year players from smaller programs such as Alex Sobel (Sacred Heart) or Nikita Konstantynovskyi (Monmouth). There are probably a few more 6-9 players like Supreme Cook out there but last year was not an endorsement for filling the paint with power forwards instead of centers. Unfortunately for Georgetown, Sorber and Fielder are probably more the former than the latter right now.

The offseason isn’t over but it’s extremely disappointing the staff has not addressed the problem in the paint defensively. I was very confident that they would, and perhaps they pushed their chips in on the wrong guys. They really need to pull a rabbit out of their hat, as this team will not make the leap we all are hoping for if we go into the season with Sorber and Fielder as the only bigs on the roster.
