39 years ago, this game was as big as it got.
Sad, sad state of affairs for these two programs.

Agreed, but like you say, it was 39 years ago. That's almost 2 generations and another world ago. I'm with you being wiShut upl for the glory of past days, and I'm leaning on the cyclical nature of things and the idea that the wheel is ever so slowly turning back our way.
Starting tonight. Beat the Johnnies!

With you on that as well -- I have a son who is a junior this year at Gtown. He's gotten a couple of tastes of what it used to be and will again be (2 years ago win over Syracuse, "win" over TCU this year). Loves mixing it up in the student section, but not much to cheer of late. Hoping he'll have more to cheer next year.
Or maybe tonight.

There's two ways this can play out: 1.) They quit on Pitino after these comments, and we play fast and loose and win 2.) They are motivated and view this as a "get right" game and we get killed at home again. #2 is more likely in my opinion, but I wouldn't rule out #1. On that note, if we do lose, I am a little fearful for Saturday at DePaul, because I think our guys will be pressing that this is the game left they are "supposed" to win, and for DePaul it might be their last chance to not go winless. That could be a recipe for disaster for us, especially if we lose tomorrow night. This is spot on. Rick will either be seen as a hero or a goat after tonight. Not that it should work that way but it will. His actions probably give us a better chance to win than if he didn't. I don't think SJ has given up yet but we will know tonight. On the other hand it looks like Depaul has given up. If we lose that one everyone involved deserves all the grief they will get.

What happens tonight will be all over the sports talk shows tomorrow one way or the other. I do agree that is nonsense but that is the world we live in now.

Let’s get another victory. Would be great to get at least 4-5 BE wins this year. Don’t think it really matters but would be nice.

If St. John’s beats a Georgetown program it “should have” beaten it’ll get some coverage and then people will move on. If St. John’s loses to Georgetown it’ll be a much bigger story. It’d be fun to hear Pitino after a St. John’s loss to Georgetown. Though he probably knows better now than to mouth off so soon again. Keep in mind St. John’s — even after their recent troubles — is still much better than us on paper. It’s not like they need to play at optimal level to beat us. In my mind, a St. John’s win tonight means about as much as a Georgetown win against DePaul.

Sad. Pretty poor attendance for what would have been a marquee game in the 1980s.

Assume Pitino is wearing the grey sport coat as a subtle message of where he actually wanted to coach.

Hoya have really poor shot selection at the moment. Missing wide open players (Ish and Styles) for jacking up shots by Heath and Epps.

I had never seen a triple block. Try doing something else, Primo Epps.
