Wow, what an agenda you must have. If Ewing or Cooley said such a thing, you would be all over them... Your agenda is showing....

Either SJU players come out inspired or they give up on him. Hopefully, they give up on him.

Watched the game. St Johns would have still won if they'd hit open shots. Not sure why he didn't go there with his criticism--don't think anyone would have had this type of neg reaction to that type of criticism. If I were coaching STJ I would have also gone crazy behind closed doors, but I can't imagine I would have gone nuclear on my team as he did. Maybe the NIL money changes coaches' attitudes towards players. Still a dumb move on his part.
Can't imagine it will help his recruiting. He is going all in to get the underclassmen at my HS, which is where Soriano played. Can't imagine that this will help him one bit with their elite fresh/sophs.

Now THIS is throwing your players under the bus. If he really said that it’s disappointing. There’s not much you can do about lateral quickness if you don’t have it. It’s not something that can be improved. He’s basically saying I can’t work with you when he attacks lack of lateral quickness.

I have to believe this is parody. I know Casual has had a weird Pitino obsession, but this comes off as silly even for him.

Jedi mind tricks?! We’ll see first-hand if it works.
A Georgetown game can cure all ills.

Nothing like telling a bunch of high level athletes that they can't do something or that they aren't good enough to put a chip on their shoulders and motivate them to prove they can do it and they are good enough. I hope EC is readying our squad well to meet the incoming Red Storm.

i don’t know what to make of pitino’s strategy behind his comments but i also think he went too far there. dissecting your players weaknesses individually in the press is not good. yet i still wish he was our coach. not sure how you can square the two but that’s how i feel.

Good leaders praise in public. Criticize in private. Good leaders spread credit, take the blame (at least to some degree).
That's what I have experienced and was taught in Navy Leadership & Management courses - especially dealing with young sailors (or young basketball players as here). The other principle was that your shipmates should hold each other accountable. Granted that was 40+ years ago but I can't imagine a 71-year old coach tossing the young men he recruited under the bus in the media capital of the world is a good look.
Maybe Pitino has a not-so-secret motivational strategy but it certainly seems strange to me.

Just to be clear, I posted the CasualHoya tweet not because it reflected MY agenda, but because it was of interest in part because he was such a Pitino proponent. It seemed more sarcastic to me than anything else.

Let's not make Pitino out to be a motivational genius with these comments. He was really Editeded off, plain and simple, and his comments were indefensible and stupid. Selfish too, because some of his players may have envisioned playing basketball overseas, and his "insights" will hurt them. Because he talked about physical limitations and named names, it will be really difficult to walk it back in the locker room.

Hoyas face a desperate SJU after it blows 12 pt halftime lead, open the second half shooting 1-14 and lose to SHU. SJU trying to keep its slim hopes of an at-large bid alive. Supposedly one of the first 4 out. Memo to Big East fans - a .500 record in the league this season isn't getting you in the NCAA Tour convo...at all. They'll take 9th and 10th teams from the Big 12 and SEC before they take a .500 team from the Big East...and having watched a ton of hoops this season, so they should.

I'm not sure what this is based on. I haven't looked in a week or so, but last I did, Big East was ranked the 2nd best conference by most advanced analytics sites.

I see the Big East either 5th or 6th everywhere I look.

To be fair they'd be #1 If you removed Gtown too. Evan Miya has 4th overall. Average Net ranking is 5th overall.

I mean they are 14-12, 3 games under .500 in conference play and currently sitting in 9th place…ahead of only us and DePaul. Casting them as in the same area code as the bubble is ludicrous.

The objective stats like SJU much more than their record would indicate. Fifth in BE in NET and KenPom. 40s or low 50s on both. That's why they're in the mix. But obviously they are going to need to turn things around pronto.

Likely parody, but Casual has had such a long obsession with Pitino it makes you wonder. If it's not a parody, then I think the answer to St. John's woes is that they spent too much NIL money on Casual. With respect to Pitino's comments, they are definitely not appropriate, and I don't like them. This is part of why DeGioia didn't want Pitino. Too much of a risk (still one I would have taken, but I get where other people were coming from).

Everyone thought it was unacceptable for Ewing to throw players under the bus, which he did with regularity. This is no better. And if he thinks St. John's has struggled this year...
