MCI I believe you are correct, I believe had cook had a reliable backup, we would have seen ALO more Cook Fielder duo.

Why do we need 4 centers? We have Fielder and Cook coming back and our top recruit is a very highly rated center. None of them have played a minute as PF. We have no Power Forwards on the roster of returning and incoming freshman and that gets no mention? For one, we absolutely cannot have Cook playing significant minutes next year. He is an atrocious defender. Even if some of that was instruction, it was instruction because he couldn't avoid fouls. You can't simply cede the lane to dribble drive. So all these folks penciling in Cook ... that'd be bad. You can't have ZERO rim protection down low. As for PF ... we do need some more size, but we don't necessarily need a traditional PF. That said, I do think someone who can play offense outside but assist defensively inside and on the boards is part of those two bigs. And I'm not sure Fielder or Sorber can't do the job in certain defenses.

As good as Cook can sometimes be on the offensive end (though he's largely useless on offense against teams with real bigs), if he's playing more than 10 minutes a game this year, we are going to continue to have defensive problems. If I am Cook, I am spending my offseason trying to learn how to play defense better. But, I'm skeptical after all these years that he is going to improve on that end. Which is why the improvement needs to come from Fielder, Sorber, and transfers we do not have yet.

...you have to put Cook alongside someone for him to be effective. if he can work on his faceup game he could certainly be a big power forward type. seemed like he was about 60% on his midrange face up game (the few that he took). But he needs work driving to the basket within the paint.

Good piece with 2 years left. Fits into the 4/5 defensive hybrid you can play away from the basket I want.

Another name I was looking at is now officially in Colby Roger's of Wichita State. If you want a shooter, he is the guy I think would best translate to the BE.

We need a high impact guy soon to signal that we are building momentum.

if we get mintz the entire complexion of next season changes. Why do you think Mintz is anything special?

Gotta agree with Boya on Mintz. I think he’s a fine player and would be a great addition IF we didn’t already have Epps. Coach Cooley would have a huge task on his hands to try to get those two guys reigned in a bit and sharing the ball.
Would rather find a more team oriented player that can shoot better than 29% from 3.

His strength is his mid-range jumper, which we don’t have. Mintz will actually take some pressure off Epps and be a win win for the team.

I think I’m sold on Mintz the player. But I worry that we might have to wait for him to test the NBA waters before we can get a commitment. Even if Cooley is 99% certain he’d be coming here, I don’t like the idea of waiting all that time to know that we have a PG.

Gohlke from Oakland is on my portal wish list. He's played 5 years and took a redshirt on top of that. How would he have any eligibility left?

Mintz is a high volume, empty numbers guy. He’s not what we need.

if we get mintz the entire complexion of next season changes. Why do you think Mintz is anything special? His offensive metrics are better than Epp’s across the board. We all know we only had one guy who could reliably put the ball in the bucket last year….with two….that really changes the dynamics.

Yes, he was at Hillsdale (Division II) for 5 years (including the redshirt), and now played the one year at Oakland. Unless the Division II time doesn't count (and I am pretty sure it does), Gohlke is done at the college level.

I don't have any doubt at all that Mintz would be an upgrade over Epps. But playing them together? ... It's not a perfect fit, they are both guys who like to dominate the ball. Not saying it couldn't work, but there'd certainly be some things to iron out basketball-wise, not to mention potential chemistry and personality issues to be wary of. It's not a no-brainer IMHO, even though Mintz's ability is undeniable. Am I the only one who is eagerly anticipating news on Bryce Hopkins now that PC's season is done? Not a given that he enters the portal, but I'm interested to see where it goes. Obviously there are injury concerns and I know some are squeamish about poaching PC. But above all this team needs a talent infusion, and this is a proven All BE caliber player who has a deep relationship with our head coach/staff. At the very least it needs to be strongly explored.
