The RPI 35 team left out in favor of RPI 49 Cal and RPI 55 Colorado. What a freakin' joke. Being a Bear alum and a G'town grandfather of 2 Hoya WSOC athletes I have joint loyalties. Cal did lose by 1 to each of UNC and Duke, tied Wake, but did beat Pitt and 'furd in their first year in the ACC with an ACC record of 5-4-1...Also had player of the year in the ACC in our first year their in Lema....Not the best of records, but not chopped liver either. If they get by Fairfield they go to LA for most likely Iowa and UCLA...Not an easy road. We shall see. Couple that with being a 10 year WSOC Hoya fan, I do not like X at all, but respected their team this year. For some reason I don't miss them much...They got caught in the grinder of losing the regular season to us and then the tourney to UConn...Dave has been down that road before....NO slips in the BEAST or you pay when it comes tourney time... Current Hoya team I think is better than 2016 and about the same as 2018....It's very interesting, when Dave has had his biggest "names" over the years the teams have not done what those two FF teams have done (yes, 1 Corboz in 1 game). 2018 in Cary, NC was the pinnacle. edit: Also sad that this game is going up against men's BB vs. Notre Dame at Capitol Arena....Poor planning on someone's part. Insofar as the Hoyas have now made the NCAA Tourney 13 times in a row, it's been quite awhile since Dave has been down that particular road. Right around the time Ingrid Wells first stepped onto campus, we started getting the kind of Strength of Schedule that makes at-large bids possible. Gotta use every asset you can, and DC being an attractive (and, for many schools, fairly easy) road trip combined with the Hoyas climb up the RPI ladder makes us a premiere non-con opponent. What would make us an even better option is if we had stadium lights... the same ones that would have allowed us to not counter-schedule the women against the basketball men. I assume Sunday was out because of the chance the Hoya futbolistas make it to the Big East Final on that day, and you need some of the same staff to host a game. Dave made a joke during the Coach's Corner (side note: they discontinued that this year, I guess? That's a real shame) last year that he and Brian would wheel the lights out onto Shaw themselves if they had to - there's just a lot of teams that don't want to play day games in DC in August or even September. Now that the new helipad is in service, I hope we hear something about lights soon. To me, this team has not felt anywhere near as dominant as the 2016 or 2018 editions... but they certainly have been more offensively dynamic than any Hoya team in quite some time, even as the defense has not dropped off any. There's just a multiplicity of players that are dangerous with the ball at their feet - Lardner, of course, is a major threat, but so too are Eliza Turner, Shay Montgomery, Natalie Means, Claire Manning, and Henley Tippins. And then you've got another batch right behind them that has proven their ability to also apply offensive pressure - Cyanne, Jocelyn, and Mary Cochran, and even Ellen Carter. Maybe that's why the loss at DePaul and to UConn felt so surprising. This is a team that feels like it's not going to get shut out by Big East competition, while rarely conceding. That offensive aptitude does feel like something that hasn't been in play since before the pandemic.

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST, FOLKS! BREAKING NEWS ON HOYATALK!!! Seriously, though, great to hear - thank you! One of the by-products to this good news would suggest a longer future for Shaw Field than some once suggested. When the decision not to complete Cooper Field was being formulated (no, not going into that again), the move away from permanent visitors seating on the east was made to allow for what was considered the near-term relocation of men's and women's soccer to Cooper Field upon a new rec center, amidst the need for a regulation field space at Cooper which would not be possible with permanent seating hugging the field. This suggests that a field relocation (and by extension, the "castling" move on Yates) is not happening any time soon.

Also no notice on FloFC about the game. Any help would be appreciated. I would assume they're working on lining up a broadcaster. The first round game against ODU was on ESPN+ last year, and the first round game against Hofstra in 2022 was on Flo.

The game is currently listed on the ESPN+ schedule for Saturday, though the preview image is showing us with the Georgia Tech logo.

Don't want to do Friday during the day because people have work. Can't do Sunday afternoon because need the athletic support staff at the SoccerPlex to run the men's final, I guess.

Lardner opens the scoring with 18:16 to play in the first half off a pass from Montgomery. Hoyas had had a couple very good chances, starting from the first minutes where the Stags cleared the ball off the line, so glad to see them finally get a goal.

Lohmeyer with a nice individual effort and beats the Stags keeper near post with less than two minutes to play before the break. Hoyas lead 2-0 at halftime. Stags will have to win a lot more individual battles and be very incisive with the chances they create and maintain their energy against a much deeper team to come back.

The wind was also wreaking havoc as usual. With it going in their favor in the second half, I expect the Hoyas to move even further onto their front foot.
UCLA survived against Cal Baptist in 2OT last night, so assuming the Hoyas see this one out, they'll be getting an all expenses paid trip to Westwood to take on Iowa, a 2-1 regulation winner over Missouri State.

Stags provided a game effort in the second half, looking better the opening 15 minutes than they did at any point in the first half. But they never found the net, Means eventually did, and the Hoyas came away with a 3-0 victory. On to Iowa and revenge for 1980.
