I don’t see how that’s trolling. Repeatedly complaining and criticizing every little thing, especially unimportant things, is the definition of trolling. Talking about Cooley asking for more press coverage is like posting the attendance after every game as if you are making a relevant point. Meh. We need more press coverage and local exposure. Cooley pointing it out is a good thing. It's another aspect of the program that needs to change.

The amount of threes Georgetown took didn't seem to be a problem when the lead was 65-62 with 2:36 left.

Complaining about what Cooley says in the press conference is what the trolls do when there's little to complain about in the game. There's always got to be something. Yep. I think it's fine to criticize Cooley. In fact, I have done it a bunch the last 24 hours. I think the end of the Seton Hall game was handled poorly, he should not have brought in Massoud at the end, I did not agree with the decision to foul at the end (not meaning to reopen that debate, I get there are those who disagree, which is fine -- just an example of where I didn't like what he did), and I think he is playing Massoud way too much given how awful he has been. But there are some people who just want to dump on Cooley as much as possible. Criticizing him for saying he wants the local press to help support the team and get it coverage? I mean that's an innocuous line. It doesn't mean a whole lot, but by all means lets over analyze it. The Cooley detractors need to recall that Patrick Ewing is probably one of the worst college basketball coaches ever, and he survived at Georgetown for 5 years, including an 0-20 season. Ed Cooley is our coach, he will be our coach for a long time, and that's not changing. I am disappointed in this season, but also confident he will improve. The stuff about him looking elsewhere is silly and I think boya's wishful thinking more than anything. *To be clear, I don't think it's necessarily trolling to criticize what Cooley says, though I think in this instance, it's really not a big deal and so could be interpreted that way. But, to suggest that Cooley might look elsewhere after this season is trolling. While I agree that Cooley may not have fully grasped how poor our program was when he took the job, his daughter did go to the school for 4 years. The idea that he had no clue how things operated there seems silly to me. Just to be clear, I was not “trolling” when pointing out the inanity of asking the press for better or more coverage. I have zero reason to troll others about Cooley - I think the product he has put on the court this season is a disappointment and could easily have been better, but I also realize the mess he inherited and I think that overall he has the program turning in the right direction. There’s just a huge difference between asking your fans for support during that process and asking the media for support.

In his answer to the question @ the 11:45 mark Cooley told the writers they needed to be better too because Gtown needs their help.. He's gotta be referring to the fact that reporters do not travel with the team like they do at PC, if so this is why these relationships needed to be strengthened during the off-season Cooley is always asking people for more - NIL money from big donors, students/community to show up to games to watch his bad team, reporters to provide better support (which is not at all their job, by the way). He hasn't commented on the arena move to VA, but he is obviously well aware of the precarious situation that puts us in. It almost seems like Cooley thought the Georgetown job would be a better gig before he took it compared to when he got here and looked under the hood. With jobs at places like Michigan (which supposedly pursued him previously) and Indiana likely to open up after this year, I wonder if he would put feelers out there, knowing what he now knows about Georgetown. Let's just stop this right here. Cooley knew exactly what he was getting at GU. For crying out loud folks, it's not even been half a season . GUs historical importance to the game is why A man like Cooley is here. He understands history. Ewing won the BE tournament and GU was the lead story for a week! U don't get that at MU or IU.. So just stop!

The coverage around the BET win was fawning and pervasive. When you lose to HC and start 1-4 in the conference, it gets a lot tougher.

Lost opportunities indeed: this team is so close to taking a solid step forward. We beat TC ( we did, actually )and Seton Hall, we are 10-6 and 2-3 in the BE, feeling pretty good about the rebuild. Massoud seems like a good, honest guy, but when he has the ball in his hands ( no shot in site ), he looks like a deer caught in the headlights. That last TO was the most egregious of all the TOs down the stretch and I blame Cooley for that- and to his credit, he accepted that blame. Massoud should not be on the floor end game situations. I am not blaming Ish for all the teams woes- plenty to go around, but the only upperclass leadership we are getting on the floor is from Bristol and Supreme.

I don't mind the amount of 3s, but that's different from caring about shot quality. Crazy 3s should come at the end of the shot clock as desperation shots. We definitely take some questionable threes, but I also find, from game threads and comments, that a lot of threes that are not bad shots get identified as such just because they are a bit long, or early in the shot clock, or because they miss. Every open three by a decent shooter is a good one; especially by this team. Oh, I'm sure I could come up with a situational one that isn't -- where we want to run down the clock. But I'm find with any open three. We missed four of those in a row in the first half and people were not happy, but they were all good shots. Many of the Epps pull up threes or long threes are good ones. He's shooting 37% from three despite taking a ton, and there's little rhyme or reason to his makes or misses. He does take some dumb forced threes for sure, and if he cleaned that up, I think he'd shoot 40%, but ... dude makes a lot of crazy shots. I think our three shot selection is not terribly bad at all. It's not perfect, but it's not near the top of my list of issues. And I certainly don't want to stop taking so many threes. I understand the desire to keep the score lower. Not only are we the underdog, but we have terrible transition D and tend to give up sudden 17-0 runs when it gets chaotic. I don't think we actually have a ton of shot clock violations or late shots. Oh, it happens, but my bigger issue isn't the timing of possessions, but the static nature once we get moving. We seem to run actual plays sometimes, and they work pretty well. We'll have good motion and get the ball inside, or create a driving lane, or a curl off a screen for a shot. And then we'll have possessions with no movement, and aimless. This is actually part of my biggest complaint on this team -- if you are going to suck, you can at least work hard. But that kind of on court ethic is a skill, and quite a few of our players simply do not have it. But I'd like to see us run more plays. I have really no issue with killing clock, especially after a made basket.

Agree about Ish but I would go a step further. He shouldn't start ahead of Fielder. Ish's game is tailor made to provide a spark off the bench by hitting a couple of quick 3s. I would much rather live through Fielder's growing pains this year.

I have really no issue with killing clock, especially after a made basket. Agree that open 3s in range are good shots any time and should be taken. Agree on player movement or lack of it. As long as we have plays that lead to open shots, I don't have a problem with killing the clock. Transition D: During one of the early games, the TV broadcast showed Cooley in the TO huddle telling his players to speed up after misses and slow down after made baskets. That's fine if you have the roster to do it. Given our reality, I think Cooley needs to go with the JT3 transition D which had shooters heading to the other side of the court while their shots were still in the air (i.e., DaJuan). Just forget about the O-reb or just have Styles go after it, and have the other players sprint back. Def. Reb: I would forget about the quick transition after missed baskets that Cooley mentioned in the huddle and just focus on defensive rebounding as a group of 5. I bet the numbers would show that it's more productive to grab the defensive rebounds and limit the other team to one shot per possession than trying to get the quick transition basket... well, at least this year with this roster...

I agree on defensive rebounding. We should have guys crashing. We don't get a lot of fast break points anwyay; I think if we could make a dent there, it'd be worth it. On offensively rebounding, I don't think our issue is crashing. The guys caught out are not our offensive rebounders. Our guards just don't actively get back quickly enough. It's laziness/lack of focus, not systematic to my eye, at least.

As someone who complained about our being non-competitive against good teams, I am giving our performance yesterday two giant thumbs up. Yes, we could have won, and maybe we should have won with some smarter play down the stretch and a little bit better shooting, but how about the grit we showed in coming back from major deficits twice? Isn't this the kind of performance we have been craving, as opposed to games where we look totally outclassed? More of this, please, and maybe we will end up with a couple upsets yet.
PS: Less Massoud.

I'm fairly sure he said crazy shots, not "bad" -- and he wasn't making a judgement; he was mad at his players for not extending their defense to longer threes. What is not shocking that the casualhoya crew trying to make it sound more negative than it was and then tossing in a paraphrasing to hide a misquote. Reality is that Seton Hall has beaten Marquette, Providence and UConn and we almost beat them, but of course this is a terrible performance, blah, blah, blah. Even more bizarre is the idea that 30 is "too many" threes. I have no idea what team the writers at Casualhoya are watching, but with little to no low post play and exactly one dude who can take a guy off the dribble ... what are people looking for? The strength of this team, if there's any offensively, is in the three. We are not a good team and we are an underdog. Underdogs win upsets by hitting threes. Who are we running these non-3 plays for? The generic "settling for threes" has become the basketball version of "not running enough" that the local drunk screams at the NFL game at the bar. The game has changed, and I am more than okay with a few heat checks 3s with this team. The Casual Hoya team (especially Casual himself) are butt hurt that Georgetown didn't hire Pitino and cannot seem to get over it. Their coverage and quality has really been poor for a while (though individual posts written by others are sometimes good). 10 years ago they had game threads with 200+ comments. The Seton Hall game thread has 14 posts. Perhaps they could get better readership if they did a better job supporting our team.

On offensively rebounding, I don't think our issue is crashing. The guys caught out are not our offensive rebounders. Our guards just don't actively get back quickly enough. It's laziness/lack of focus, not systematic to my eye, at least. Part of the problem Cooley faces with balance, too, is that our best defensive players and best offensive players are different. For example, Epps is easily our best offensive player, yet he's weak defensively. Brumbaugh is limited on offense, but probably our best defensive guard. Cook is a pretty good offensive rebounder and can generally finish shots pretty well or get fouled, but his defense in the paint is horrible and he cannot get defensive rebounds (his DR% is 12.7 in Big East play which is horrendous). Heath has struggled on both ends, but when he does contribute, it's on the offensive end, as he's a defensive liability. Massoud has been awful on both ends, but if you had to pick, he's (slightly) better on offense given that he doesn't rebound at all and very poorly for his height. Bristol is clearly better on the offensive end. Fielder is growing and someone I think has potential to be a useful player on both ends, actually. But he's still a developing freshman. The closest we have to a guy who probably contributes good things on both ends is Styles, but even then, I think Styles' offense is agruably ahead of his defense. That is why I think the lineup that we used during our comeback, with Epps, Heath, Bristol, Styles, Fielder did pretty well. You have offensive threats in really all of 5 of them, but especially Epps, and it's one of our best defensive lineups because Styles/Fielder combined are decent on that end (but by no means great). But really any lineups we put out there we have some big gaps on one end of the court.

I can understand wanting Pitino, but the dude is in the second half of his forties and he's acting like a child. For accuracy, here's what Holloway says in that timeout: "Everybody relax. I don't understand how we not closing out with our hands down. They just gonna take crazy shots. They just gonna take 30 threes. We told you guys that! You can't close out with your hands down. What are we thinking about? (Name), you can't come back in, you can't turn over the ball. They playing a zone. There's no pressure. (Something) you gotta get in there. Just be solid. Just be solid." So no, this was not some "Cooley's been figured out." It was a coach yelling at his team for not executing pretty standard things. But of course, we must present it as some smoking gun.
