Averaging 10.1 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 1.3 bpg, 54.9% fgp, 63.4% ftp in EYBL games for Team Final so far this spring. nikeeyb.com/standingsNot sure those are re-class worthy numbers, but definitely a very good big man get in the class of 2024. Congrats to Thomas and the Hoyas coaching staff! I think that is why he is waiting until after the Peach Jam this summer to fully decide and commit to one year or the other. If he can dominate and roll against other '23s then it's totally up to him, I just hope he chooses what's best for him and he gets good advice at home and from Cooley. Wouldn’t he have to have graduated or have the credits to graduate? Seems like something his HS coach would know about and he says on Twitter he’s not reclassifying. Regardless, he should do what’s right for him and we should be looking at a transfer/grad transfer big to bridge the gap.

Reclassifying and then jumping into college isn't for everyone, as was the case with a top-30 junior who got a GED to arrive at Georgetown in 2012. He wasn't ready. www.hoyabasketball.com/players/s_domingo.htm

The obvious difference being that EYBL stats playing against primarily Division I-type competition is a lot more relevant than Archbishop Ryan's high school schedule against the Radnor Townships and Cardinal O'Haras (no offense to those schools).

Sorber is going to be a good 4 year college player that by the end is going to be a load like previous Cooley big men. Asking him to reclassify is not a good idea. He is a a mid-low ranked 4 star in the 2024 class. That means he's a high ranked 3 star 2023. Why would anyone want to rush that into college?

He was a low impact player in high school in a weak league. No clue how he got rated the way he did. Strange stuff.

“As soon as I stepped on that campus, it felt like home,” Sorber said. “Once a place feels like home, you never want to leave it. That’s how it felt to me and to my parents as well."
... Sorber noted the fact that Cooley brought Battle and the rest of his staff (unofficial right now) with him to Georgetown stood out to him.
“It’s loyalty with them because Coach Cooley brought his whole coaching staff with him,” Sorber said. “That’s how you know you can trust him and hopefully he can make the right decisions for you as well.”
“That’s something that I had to take pride in a little bit, it’s a big man school, but it’s also a school that wants to win a chip, a national championship, so I think I can help make that happen,” Sorber said.

Good get, and more reason why we need to trust the staff before panicking about the roster. Even if this year we don't have a ton of success as far as Wins/Losses, we will better, and we have good pieces in 2024 already in Mulready and Sorber.
On the reclassification issue, I leave that in the hands of Thomas Sorber, his family, and his coaches, though if he is ready, I selfishly would like to see him sooner rather than later. But there are guys who reclassify and it works out well; others do it and it does not. And now kids get the incentive of maybe making some money off NIL early, too, so I'm sure these kids (and they are kids) have a ton to think about. Either way I am looking forward to his playing for the Hoyas.

Okay guys Geezer Alert. What the heck does reclassifying mean? Does it mean he doubles up on his high school classes and graduates this year instead of next?

Okay guys Geezer Alert. What the heck does reclassifying mean? Does it mean he doubles up on his high school classes and graduates this year instead of next? A lot of basketball players take summer school classes. For some it could be to ease the academic burden during the school year credit-wise, for others it gets them to graduation faster. Im assuming if it's being considered, that he is another summer school session away from having enough credits to graduate early if he chooses.

He never became "ready" and probably would not have been "ready" had he waited a year. He was a low impact player in high school in a weak league. No clue how he got rated the way he did. Strange stuff. I agree with this take. I'm mostly ambivalent about Sorber reclassifying--whatever he and the coaches determine is best for his long-term development is ok by me. I don't think next year's outlook is materially different with our without him. If he is academically and maturity-wise ready to start college, great--you'd expect he'll get better coaching at the college level and he'll be better off practicing and playing against DI talent than high school talent. But no need to force it if he's not ready or it's not what he and his family want to do. I know people throw around the Domingo thing as an example of reclassifying gone wrong, but the issue is not that Stephen Domingo was ruined by reclassifying. He simply was not very good. We all had high hopes for him and he just didn't have it. No reason to think that all examples of reclassifying would go the same way.

Solid foundation for the 2024 class with Sorber and Mulready. Let's keep the ball rolling.

I am just in awe of what coach Cooley has been able to pull off in just a few short months! It also speaks volumes about the Georgetown environment, the history and traditions! After Porter and now Sorber, I think we can begin calling GU, Moms’ university! If you have got the momma, you have the son!

Strange stuff. He had 2 AAU tourneys where he shot the lights out. Plus remember it was like right after Reggie Miller had retired so everyone wanted the next one. So he looked the part.
