Great first impression. Now let's get to work, there's a LOT of work to do.

I mean. It's only an intro presser but my goodness it felt like I was listening to the HC of Georgetown in an alternate universe. Respecting JT legacy but making sure to separate himself as his own man. Bringing former players up as a backbone. Engaging media. Engaging students. Highlighting the need to lock down the DMV. I couldn't be more hopeful and excited for the future.

If you watched this press conference, and still don’t like the hire, I can’t take you seriously anymore. Bingo. This job has always been about more than winning games. One of the best pressers you'll ever see given all the emotions and baggage. Dude gets it. Now, it's time to go to work.

Did he mention anything about current players or players he recruited at Providence, missed half of it, work always ruining things!

Did he mention anything about current players or players he recruited at Providence, missed half of it, work always ruining things! He said he briefly met with our current players, and will be meeting with them more. He said he would need to see if personalities matched, that he wants guys who want to be at Georgetown, and if guys want to leave, he's fine with that, they can leave. No word on Providence players. He did say he expects most/all of his staff at Providence to come with him. I can only imagine how the press conference seemed to our current players, especially those who have been with Ewing more than a year. It must feel like a different universe.

Yes, something like- "I had an opportunity to briefly meet with the team. I will do one on one's in the next few days. I want guys who want to be here. I'm not going to beg anybody." Heath and Akok attended. Feels like those two are back (which is great IMO).

Did he mention anything about current players or players he recruited at Providence, missed half of it, work always ruining things! Said he was going to talk to the current team individually after speaking to them briefly as a group earlier today - didn't commit one way or the other, said if they want to "roll" (i.e., leave), he won't get in their way. I'm paraphrasing, but that was my main takeaway. I don't think he said anything about the Providence players but maybe I missed it as the feed got extremely choppy by the end of the Q&A session.

Damn, that was impressive. Just a complete 180 from what we heard 6 years ago.
Today was the first step in mending the fences in a lot of areas. Relationships with former players. Ensuring that AD (and hopefully university leadership) and staff are in alignment. Valuing and appreciating the students, media, and the overall GU fan base instead of antagonizing them. Before even winning a single game, if we are truly going to instill a sense of community and togetherness, these were all the right things to call out and cite as areas for improvement.
With a coach who pushes for it, an AD who is allowed to enable it, and university leadership who empowers them both, this could finally go the way we want it to go. Fingers crossed that this doesn't just ends up being words that ring hollow. But, hard to ask for a better start.

He said he would sit down and evaluate if the player really wanted to be here but also if the player is a good fit for his system and culture (we ball not me ball) Didn’t talk about whether he’s printing players or recruits from Providence

Blown away by the press conference - obviously my position on Cooley has been clear for some time, but I don't think I've ever seen somebody hit so many of the right notes in a press conference like that. I'm still not thrilled with the process that got us here and the Georgetown decision makers involved, but I'm cautiously optimistic that if his words translate into actions, there will be a lot of success in the near future.

Indeed, if any players were /are apt to "roll, then roll" - no extraordinary measures were going to be taken to retain them - i.e. wants personnel who want to be on the Hilltop and unwaveringly so in that commitment.

Anybody going to be on the HHC Zoom tonight? If you were on the fence I think you may be re-considering.
